  1. You will need a puller to remove both of them. It will be a three bolt steering wheel type of puller. I recommend spraying penetrating oil in the threaded holes in the balancers as they will probably be a bit rusty. Make sure the threaded rod of the puller has something to push against in the crank snout. I also recommend using an installer to put it back on. Although thousands of guy have just tapped it on with a hammer. Up to you. As for doing it in the Jeep, it can be done, but it is tight. Be careful you don't put holes in the radiator! :D
  2. Sorry about my previous post. Thought our trucks had a seal like imports had. Used to do many sliders when I worked for Mitsu on their trucks. Oh well.....
  3. Double check the wiring repair to make sure the wires are soldered together.
  4. For the ability to have a real gasket, not RTV. And a less problematic PCV system. Still a fixed orifice, but without that silly flapper that carbons up, or the too long tubes that need to have holes drilled in the sides so they aren't in the oil. Or maybe just a matter of taste (or lack therof? :D ). I just don't like how dingy those cast covers look as they age. :dunno:
  5. I used to clean the valve cover really well and use RTV. The grey axle/engine sealer from MOPAR works great. If you really want to up grade. Go with the newer stamped metal valve cover with the reuseable steel shim and rubber gasket. You need a couple of newer head bolts that have the locating pins for the gasket, the cover with PCV stuff and the bolts.
  6. Sealant isn't a bad idea, but I would wait to apply it until the window is installed. It would get all over the pull wire, then all over the inside of the truck. Just a darn chocolate mess.
  7. Nice job. What did you use for the headliner panel?
  8. First have the glass in the seal. Then take a piece of 12 gage wire and put it in the outer part of the seal that will fit in to the body opening. You want the ends of the wire to meet at the bottom of the window, with at least a foot left on each end. Now have a friend hold the window from the outside with the bottom of the seal started on to the body opening, making sure the wire ends are on the inside (you are on the inside as well).. With the friend holding pressure on the window, pull on one wire end while holding the other to keep it from pulling around. This will pull the lip of the seal toward you and on to the body opening. Work it around slowly and it should pop right in.
  9. IMO, that is too wide of a rim for that tire.
  10. I caught that the first time I saw the movie. I'm pointing and yelling at the TV. Wife thinks I'm crazy. I do the same thing when they screw up with guns in shows.
  11. Typical Beemer owner. Ya know the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? The porcupine has the pricks on the outside.

    new shoes:

I thought that KJ's were 5 on 5. Where did you get 5 on 5 Silverstars?????

    new shoes:

Those started out as 5.9 limited ZJ wheels, then they put some on TJ's as well. Silverstars. I am jealous. I currently have two and have been looking for another pair so I can mount up my set of 245/16 MTR's.
  14. I know "real" welders mostly scoff at them, but I recommend getting an auto darkening helmet if you don't have one. I tried to learn with a little 110 MIG using an old fashioned helmet. Sucked. Bought an auto and you can actually see what you are doing. For the little I do it is great.
  15. You did open up the valves on the compressor, right? They are the 1/4 inch square drives under the tin caps. This is easy to overlook. You really should/ need to have the system evacuated and vacuumed properly. The vacuum will cause any moisture in the system to boil and be pulled out. If not, the water will combine with the HFC's under pressure and form hydrofluoric acid in the system. You also need to add the right amount of PAG oil. The mineral oil of R12 systems will not mix with the 134a and that is how the oil moves throughout the system.

    Not my job

Read an article in the paper a while back about a road crew from PA that paved over a deer carcass. I guess if I was driving the paver, and nobody else was going to move it......venison pancake! I once had to put a 4.0 in a ZJ that had been driven over a deer carcass. The guy drove over deer, broke the bottom off the radiator (lower hose) and kept going until it seized. It sat in the lot, in July, for almost a week between ins adjuster and parts coming in. Told the adjuster they were going to be paying extra for that one. Also asked what the scoop was. Guy was obviously an idiot for continuing to drive. The official story was that he didn't realize the damage. Adjuster (who I knew) alluded that the dude was looking for hookers and had no other reason to be downtown Rochester and had to get to a different area. Guy paid cash to have it towed after it locked up and dropped somewhere else before calling it in. That was a very disgusting job.It would have been a good one for that Mike guy from dirty jobs.

    Allergies

I had terrible pollen allergies as a kid. Now, at 46, they are almost gone. I have had luck with Allegra, but it isn't very strong. Does absolutely nothing for some friends with bad allergies. My wife had no allergies when young (whoops, she is still young. Hope she doen't see this :D ), now she has spring and fall allergies. As far as the cold thing. I was constantly getting colds and such. After leaving the dealership environment, haven't had more than sniffles in a year and a half. Probably touching all those damn steering wheels and shift knobs. Gross just to think about now!

    budweiser

Never really liked Bud much.It does bother me that they sold out though. Curious to see if they change any of their "rah, rah American beer" slogans.
  19. You know what they say....once you go MAC, you never go back! :brows: . Had my Macbook for a year and a half. NO anti virus programs, NO anti spam programs, NO firewall. ZERO problems. Up and running in 20 secs from cold boot. When my home PC Compaq finally pukes for good, it will be replaced by another Apple. They are over priced though. I HAVE to use a Dell for work. Now I know why that Steve kid was always stoned.
  20. Went to take some pics this morning. Already gone. Maybe the new owner will find his or her way here.
  21. I'm using one from a late 90's S-10. It is a little shorter than the cab ( couple inches?), but doesn't look too bad, and was free.
  22. I'll stop on wednesday on my way to Albany. Post some pics later that night.
  23. Never thought I'ld say this to a guy, but, nice rack. Make that yourself?
  24. I would love to swap a 242 into my 'manche. I have owned two WJ's with it, and driven countless others as a Jeep tech, and really like the case. My truck with the 231 binds like a bi^ch on anything close to dry pavement in 4wd.
  25. Saw a red sporttruck yesterday. Sitting for sale outside a junk yard just south of the Geneva thruway exit (42). 73k and very, very solid. I was in a hurry so just had time for a glance. 2.5, AX trans. Looked to be rust free floor. Solid box. Had stickers from local college so guessing it was not originally a NY truck. No price on it and they were closed. I did not have a camera so no pics, But I will be going back down there wed or thur this week and can stop in for more info if anyone is interested (need another, wildman?)
