Question about the vacuum lines, because mine connected to a line that went to my tcase, can i pull that too and just plug where it connected at the tcase, or is that needed for other things?
-
I'll take a pic in a few to show, but theres two round cut outs, one in the front, and one in the back, and i can hold the shop vac hose up to either of them and constantly get more rust flakes and crap sucked out of it almost every day

In the middle of replacing my floors, and I've noticed that every day theres flakes and small pieces of rusted off metal inside the frame rails, and no matter how many times or how long I suck it all out with the shopvac, theres always more the next day. Should I take off the top of the rail and clean/coat the inside of the frame rails too, and if so how do i go about removing the top of the rail with as little cutting as possible?

I wish it was mine! Sadly, mines an '86 with the free 4.0 firewall, the pic i posted was one that Joop showed me when i was asking about the 2.8 to 4.0 swap. Until the funds allow, I'm just putting a 2.8 back in, since its the most time and money friendly. In a couple months though, the Navy's gonna start paying for new parts :chillin:

I would love to, but my graduation is the 20th! Plus, not sure if the mj will move on its own by then or not, hopefully it will!

Suprised nobody answered you about the firewall yet, this is a picture of a firewall that will clear a 4.0. If you look on the right side of the area above the transmission tunnel, there is a "step" at the top of the newer one that allows the 4.0 to clear it, whereas on the older engine its not there, took me longer than i'd like to admit to notice the difference, but hope this helps!

Theyre pretty great! A couple of my other favorites are Children of Bodom, The Faceless, Born of Osiris, The acacia strain, and Winds of Plague

Gotta say I'm more of a metal head, five finger death punch, amon amarth, austrian death machine, chelsea grin, white chapel, stuff in that area, but oddly enough love country music too, with an odd bit of dubstep and techno here and there! And since dad can't stand all of the above, classic rock seems to be the most common played in the garage, which is fine by me!

Lookin good man, I was lookin in the central plains thread and it somehow led me here, seems like nobody whose posted there is on CC anymore :huh???: if you ever need some help or wanna go wheelin let me know, my 'manches almost ready to move on its own! :wrench:

Finally found this thread! Independence, MO (Kansas City) here, got a stock '86 4x4 that ALMOST moves on its own...almost! Would love to try to get a meet n greet goin before august since i ship out to basic aug 9th and won't be back for quite some time! Hopefully this'll revive this thread!

So, the original 2.8 in my manche went out, so i pulled one from an s10, its about ready to go in, but the block on the new engine doesnt have the indention for the manual fuel pump like my original engine did, any ideas on what i should do? don't really want to have to drop the tank or anything, but if i have to i can.

Comanche to Cherokee parts compatability
mpace6a replied to E4Marty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just in case you didnt know, because i didnt when i bought my '86, it seems like quite a lot in the engine bay is different from the '87 and up models, like the firewall, headlight buckets, front core support, etc, because they were made for the 2.1 turbo diesel, 2.5 I4, and 2.8 v6. I don't know much about the first two so i may be wrong about some parts, but i believe since the v6 was an option that year only, that they all are the same when it comes to their differences from the years after that. -
The gm 3.4 is the next size up in the 60* gm v6's, and an ax5 will do alright behind it iirc. I have an 86 with the 2.8 as well, and was planning on putting an I6 in until i was informed on how much fab work it requires up front. the 3.4 can be found in the late '80s camaros and i believe firebirds, not positive about the firebirds though

Command Trac Dana 30 vacuum line replacement?
mpace6a replied to mpace6a's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ahhh, Ok, thank you for the link with the wonderful illustrations :clapping: Now that I understand, I may just go the extra mile and pull all the lines to get them gone with so i don't have to bother with them again -

Command Trac Dana 30 vacuum line replacement?
mpace6a replied to mpace6a's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge here, but whats CAD? and what exactly was the purpose of the lines to begin with? -
So, while replacing my horribly rusted out floorboards, I managed to cut one of the vacuum lines that goes to the axle, and I'm trying to figure out if i have to replace all 3 lines, or if i can seperate them and just replace the one i cut? anyone know? the little doohickey in the red circle is whats holding them together, and near as i can tell it wasnt meant to come off...but i can't be sure, anyone know?

Thinking about '86 MJ purchase..Swap 4.0 in?
mpace6a replied to Incommando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an '86 with the 2.8 in it, and posted on here a couple months back, basically, everyone said don't do it. You have to either play thor with the firewall, or cut and patch because it is shaped differently on '86 mjs  I originally intended to do the swap, but once i realized just how much cutting and fabricating went into it, I bailed and sold the parts XJ and bought a new 2.8 from an S10. If you have the fab skills needed, go for it, but I think you'd be better off with a camaro/firebird 3.4, which i was told would bolt up to the ax5. I personally went with the 2.8 again just as a quicky motor to get it on the road(still hasnt happened) until i can afford a mercedes inline 5 turbo diesel, or a bigger v6 and tranny. here's the thread i posted a few months back, has some pics and more details i may have left out, hope it helps! viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32881 -

Not usually a big fan of exo's...but yours is great! Love that beasts stance! What size tires are you running, and do you have any more plans for it?
