1986 Comanche 4x4 front locking mechanism
mpace6a replied to E4Marty's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just did this about 2 weeks ago! Like the walkthrough says, that fork won't want to move, but it will with enough influence! I had to figure out which nipple on it was the "exhale" and hold it closed while i GENTLY beat the fork with a hammer. I did it right at the bend since that seemed strongest to me, and it worked thus far. if it breaks i'll be welding something to replace it since a newer axle isnt in the funds. Oh, and I plugged the old vacuum lines with a gob of epoxy on each one! -
A few "floor" questions...
mpace6a replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm on the downhill portion of my floor repair. I just cut up the hood from when our Dodge Ram was wrecked cuz of some tweakers that don't know what a red light means. It was plenty strong for the floor. I'm going to coat the floors with 2 coats of Chassis Saver, and just put my old carpet back in without the deadening. I didnt notice much difference in sound with and without the insulation. though for heat you may want some. Personally, if I decide i need insulation, I'm going with the aluminum backed roofing insulation. Self adheres with a tar/asphalt based adhesive and is water proof as well! -
Infared. Rob Yep, theyre infared. No flash, because, being a game cam, flash would scare away all the critters! Although, it might also scare away the vermin your dealing with as well...

I am already heading to Texas soon here. I have enough cash on hand to buy it too. I shouldn't though. :huh???: I disagree! You should! :D
-
In theory, couldnt we just make molds of them out of plaster? or just go to a hobby store and get molding kits to make the molds and send them to whoever can use the molds to make badges?
-
If I was in texas and had cash.....Sadly, neither of those apply to me =(
-
I still have all the original badges for my '86! Not a metric ton...but still better than nothin!

I need an oil pan for the '86 comanche with the 2.8 in it. can't buy them new because the engine in the '86 is the discontinued. First Gen LR2 model, and in '87 the engines were changed to have fuel injectors and a serp. belt instead of the pulley system. This changed the timing cover as well as the oil pan, and I need the oil pan! Please and thanks to all who look, Matt

Man, that interior is awesome! and makes my plain black look...well, plain. I fell in love with the interior, and am now out to clone! Also, Brandt, thank you for taking time to take and send this pics for us! We all appreciate it, and I'm sure you'll be hearing it from everyone Jeep On!

I have an '86 with the 2.8, still havent driven it since I'm in the middle of swapping in a new(er) 2.8. I hear doing that is as bad as putting money in a d35..but oh well, it was the best option till i get back from basic training. Glad to know it won't do horrid on gas. Also, I love longbeds, especially with a bit of lift and 33s. With the right stance, they look great!

How to get better fuel milage?
mpace6a replied to Live For God's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the check engine light has been triggered, even if it's a minor intermittent problem causing the light to go off again, the error code should still be stored in the computer for the next 50 key off/key on cycles. Take it in whether the light is on or not. It depends on the type of code. Some don't set history codes... Some take more faults to set, some take less, some get cleared by such and such conditions. I think, depending on the year of Mopar, you should be able to flash the codes through the odo whenever you want. I would imagine that if its enough to kill the truck though, something would be stored... Rob Its a '97. Last time i took it up to check, the light went off as soon as I pulled in the parking lot  They went ahead and tried to read it anyway, and all the popped up was a seatbelt code? -

Thus far, power steering hasnt been a problem, and actually you still have power brakes as long as you keep off the brake pedal and only use it if absolutely necessary. But anymore I don't have to kill it, my ram randomly dies on its own. And the engine light never stays on long enough to make it to oreillys to check it :( -
Thats some awesome photography!

In my old chevy i flipped it in nuetral and coasted...alot. Do it enough and you'll start finding places where you can coast well over a mile without losing speed. helped conserve gas when i only got 8mpgs...Also when i started finding places like that, just kill it, but turn the key back to the "on" postion and you'll still be able to steer. -
I'd be down for all 3! And since others have shown interest, I'd be interested in a hat too!
-
If you decide to sell it let me know! Dad and my brother have been wanting one for a while now, and your only 2 states over...I'm sure they wouldnt mind the drive!
-
You and me both..I'd sell the MJ without a second thought for one!
-
Blurry pics...eh, what do you expect from a old, beat up cell phone? :D
-
That it is! And since its a GM engine, and my firewall is well...special, in the future its going to have a 350 in it, since the wiring is essentially plug n play! Unless i get lucky and find an OM617 Mercedes Turbo Diesel

Seeing any mj get crushed makes me sad :( Personally, I believe theres (almost) always some hope left for it, but maybe thats just me? :dunno:
-
Is this the door buzzer as well? If it is...mines coming out asap!
-
I wouldnt mind crushin cars in a manche

I understand now why it didnt have the oomph to even drive up the street. However, I'm not sure how it even pulled itself up the ramps onto the trailer. Or how it even started! But it did, and now a nice, shiny new engine is going in! This is the one i bought, with roughly the same miles on it. No cleaning or anything before the pic either

How much lift is that?!?
