  1. Anyone have a picture or diagram showing the locations of the accessories for a 2.8 with the v belts? All i can seem to find is the layout for a serp belt
  2. Whats rain? Its been well over a month since we've had any rain here... I forgot..is it wet? :rotfl2:
  3. Russian brides... Theyre mail order too, just pay shipping! :rotfl2:
  4. On the off chance you didnt know, the hard line that goes to the rubber hose i circled in the picture is the one that goes to the brakes. IT has a split coming off of it going to the capped line on top in the picture. My lines were bad so i just ran one new on from the cylinder to the brakes, and completely eliminated the height sensing valve
  5. The one that points to the front grill. the one that actually runs the brake lines faces down, and is smaller, i believe it was a 3/8" nut, i'll check on it and let you know for sure. I'd take pics to eliminate confusion, but my phone bit the dust yesterday EDIT Oops, the one on the bottom is the one you cap, just went out to check. the one that sticks out the front is the smaller, 3/8" nut and it goes to the actual brakes. the bigger one that faces down went to the height sensing valve
  6. The capped line that drops down even with the axle went to the height sensing valve, and I'm pretty sure the other capped one did too. If you don't have/want the height sensing valve, then there shouldnt be any problem. I just pulled mine 2 days ago, pulled the lines so there wouldnt be confusion, and capped it at the master cylinder
  7. does it still have the height sensing valve hooked up? if not that may be what the cut line is. I just got rid of mine.
  8. No, not going to get it smogged. Removing as much emissions crap as possible. ANd the pump doesnt need the regulator since its specifically for carb'd vehicles

    finally got mine!

I love canoeing! Gotta patch a hole in mine, dunno a make, model, or even year, except that my dad took it down a local creek during a flash flood in the late '70s or early 80s! I'd love to get a kayak too, just cuz theyre fun and would fit better on the jeep!
  10. My old chevy had the same problem, which turned into backfiring and not downshifting. Replaced the egr valve, that more or less solved it. Then timed it which solved the shifting problem. then seafoam for good measure
  11. So, the new 2.8 i bought for my '86 mj does not have the slot in the block for a mechanical fuel pump because its out of a newer s10. The problem is i have 3 lines coming from the gas tank, one is the main fuel line, one goes to the charcoal canister, and the third i believe is supposed to be a return line to the tank. So my question here is what do i do with the return line, since the electric pump i bought only has one in and one out?
  12. Sadly, if we see any more of this, it may just do that...I don't like changing the stock look of the jeeps, but because the tailights are so rare, I'm thinking about making boxes to house LED tail lights in the future
  13. So just bypass the height sensing valve and run it like normal brake lines? sounds so much easier! :clapping:
  14. Gotta replace 2 brake lines on my truck, and both go behind the gas tank. One for sure goes to the load sensing..thing. Wondering if I should drop the tank, pull the bed, or just bypass the load sensor?
  15. i like you jay. you've done just enough psycadelics to be interesting. :clapping: :agree:
  16. Here in MO our low temps are in the 90's this week, lowest being 97 iirc. Still workin on the MJ all day!
  17. Yep, a problem that was later solved with the newer engine blocks
  18. Just wrap a strap around your axle if you can get to it. Buried my buddy's stock zj in the mud with the axles sunk in. had to dig a little hole under the front bumper to get the strap down there, but pulled it out no problem.
  19. Not technically. The 2.8 has a bad rep because the particular block that came in the comanche was more or less the most unreliable engine in history. However, theres always a flip side. They either sucked, or lasted quite a long time. Not quite 4.0 long time, but still a while. And if you so happen to get a 2.8 out of a post 87 S10, S15, or their SUV counterparts, your doing alright because they were made to be alot stronger. I don't know what block my86mj has, but if he got the newer one, its well worth the 150 in my book, especially since it gets the jeep back on the road quicker!
  20. Man wish I was that lucky when i bought a new 2.8! Paid $200 for a super clean one though! Just sucks that the one i bought is a newer block so it had an electric fuel pump and i had to swap intakes, timing covers, and so on. Still super clean though!
  21. Glad to hear its running right! Gotta say this is easily my favorite MJ! Love that its all original and a diesel at that!
  22. A Comanche is a Jeep. The Jeep 4.0L engine and the AW4 automatic transmission are about the most bullet-proof drive train on the planet. Why are you considering anything else? :agree: I'd go wth a 4.0/AW4 since you want an auto. Personally my number on choice since a 4.0 is cheap to get anywhere, plenty of aftermarket for em, and parts are reletavely cheap as well. Personally, the only reason I havent put one in mine is because mine is an '86 and the different firewall won't let me. But I think its your best bet, because the 4.0 is the perfect balance of horsepower, torque, and effeciency.
  23. I say leave it as it is! Its a rare piece of MJ history, and so many of us, myself included, want it lifted up on bigger tires so it can go anywhere. But we still need at least a couple of these things being restored back to OE configurations, and I, personally, think the diesel needs to stay all original! Again, its a rare piece of MJ history, and it needs to stay all original, with any mods being because its completely necessary or just that much more convienent. Keep her original!
  24. That poor Jeep. Thats what i said. But a 4wd 39 ford will be interesting lol Ya, and it could be interesting on a cheap ford frame that is plentiful. :agree: Why not just build a frame and restore the gladiator? :???:
  25. This is a great idea! Especially for those of us here in the rust belt! And even better for us Missouri guys where, not only do the moisture and salt get us, but the darned soil is acidic and eats away at metal too! So far, I don't need anything, but would definately like to see this thread kept alive!
