Jeep Driver replied to Abyx's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes it is. Supplements the head to firewall ground which we know is crappy on a good day. As stated. -

I added 4g cable from battery to dipstick, also soldered ground cluster at dipstick. Also I got rid of the useless ground strap, engine block to cowl, and added 4g cable. All cables are have soldered ends, crimped ends are half-assed. Don't know if the added ground to rad support is of value....? -
What's your battery preference and why?
Jeep Driver replied to Comanche County's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
But some of us smarter than the average bear. I buy XJs. I buy XJs with new Interstate batteries. I swap older batteries from my keepers to sellers with new batteries. Same with starters and whatnot. But then I am a bit smarter -

Ford makes farm tractors and family sedans.............and you point is? Apples to oranges. The one thing nice about the gel batteries is you can mount them upside down..........if you were so inclined. And they will work for a little while.........not matter what way you mount them. -

I've had optimas............never fully recharge after a full discharge........never again. I have an Interstate now. -
Cost you $70 for pan gasket, rear seal, sealant, oil. And should take you about 4 hours to complete. Yes.

Radiator Upgrade for 2.5?
Jeep Driver replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine is the single row/plastic as you describe. From Advance. The key is to order online with the right coupon code and you get if for about $100. Then take your copper to the scrap yard and get about $14-16 for it. BTW, it will overcool.............no issues with mine. -
Monolithic, that is the drag. This is my last post in the Pub.

Rob (quoting Eagle) was spot on. I'm happy to hear you feel the Pub is a drag, so now feel free to post your "current events" commentary and carry on your opinionated agenda in one of the many other forums you frequent. Perhaps these other forums won't be such a drag to you. Test the waters so to speak. :rotf: However, you do post mildly interesting info in the Tech section every now and then. Feel free and welcome to participate. Yeah, well we all have our opinions and POV don't we? I have thick skin and I hold my own and stick to my point and others have the same opportunity. Yeah, I will continue to do so elsewhere.

Blown slave cylinder?
Jeep Driver replied to Dirteatr717's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I was thinking that or make one myself, out of larger diameter hard brakeline. Ill most likely call a few more places in the morning and try to get one, if not ill find out how long the shipping is from rockauto. My truck is my daily driver and my only other option is my bicycle  Thanks for the help guys :wavey: Make sure it's flexible or the next line that will brake is the one in the trans to the slave..........that is where mine went.....very weak there IMO. -
What is that ticking noise?????
Jeep Driver replied to Shane's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can make a poorboy's stethoscope with a piece of 1/2" PVC about 18" long. Move it from part to part and isolate the noise while the engine is running. Don't stick it in the fan BTW. -

What would that attribute to?? I don't quite understand. As a matter o'fact I have. All the engine harness sensors were re-cut, re-crimped and soldered at the factory splices when I tore apart my harness to fix the melted O2 sensor wires. I didn't add any grounds; but according to my multimeter I don't have any resistance issues, so I didn't see fit to add grounds. The C101 connector was cleaned twice, as well. Depending on where you are.........we have swings of 40+ degrees day to night. What ever is happening is caused by something other than light or the lack there of. -
Rob, you are clearly referring to me as the 'drive-by'.........not so. It is common as you put it to 'drop links' and add commentary. Dropping links is a way to support or dispute a position, principle, or topic, some stories require no commentary, they stand on their own. I visit here as my truck has become my latest hobby as well as my DD and a common interest with this site. I make multiple visits here daily. I have been a member of multiple guns sites and tractor sites over the years. I spend most of my net time at the AKfiles.com with more than 25K posts now registering 19K with thread deletions and site changes being the reason for post loss. I'm hardly a drive-by. Apparently you intend to keep the Pub dry, fine I got the message. However the Pub is a drag........but that is the way it is. You bet, I tested the waters here, my lack of commentary was more due to a wait-n-see what the response would be as apposed to being banned outright. Oh I have a lot to say and I'm more than up to date on current events, and I do have an agenda, information is power.

Blown slave cylinder?

You could have one made up in braided steel line. Any hydraulic shop should be able to make it up. -
Over heating on beach. Cooling upgrade?
Jeep Driver replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well then he should replace his cooling system and for about $350 he can do so. But he did ask about fans. -

Last July I bought a rust free, damage free, MJ with 5K miles on a rebuild. Since then I have gone end to end and top to bottom solving any foreseeable problem. Going through all of my electrical and mechanical.....brakes......cooling.....front suspension.....new drive shafts.....replaced every sensor...exhaust and intake...etc...... Lot of money and time and effort. This year it will be paint and interior. I took an approach......since I cannot afford, nor would I anyway, buy a new truck this one will have to give me years of service. As it sits now I expect 3-5 years of DD hassle free service. I also travel quite a bit from home and I need to trust it to get me there and back. I say that for this reason, if I have a problem I solve it. Benefits- In my experience electric is more efficient and provides better cooling. Less drag on engine. When shrouded 100% of the fan's draw must come through the radiator. Clean up the front of the engine bay, I have access to service hoses, belt, water pump......etc.....without removing the fan. Should increase pump bearing life. Quieter, and for the most part, except for prolonged idle, the fan is not necessary. Safer as fan is more or less inclosed. When I find my keeper XJ I will also have the trans cooler separated from the radiator and run through it's own mini cooler with it's own fan. Auto trans generate too much heat and add to the cooling problem, IMO. -

Jeep Driver replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Going electric is an approach, not a band-aid. There are a couple of other reasons to go electric also. I replace my entire cooling system and went electric......but I did not suggest that you do the same. -

Reportedly NAPA carries an OEM.......IIRC $130 But I went external when mine went so I never bought it. There are posts all over the net of the cheaper ones not lasting and I have talked to one guy personally who replaced his twice and the third one went in the course of a year.....OReilys
