it is more involved than that... (I too have an 88' 4.0 liter) The header will fit the head but the renix intake manifold will not bolt on after the header is installed. You have to go to a later year intake manifold (I am not sure but I believe some port matching work is advised also)... which means many other things need changed and addressed. all of which are good (ie bigger throttle body better cold air intake options etc, and will all make you more power) but it is far more involved than bolt it up and done. The TPS sensor has to be addressed for one (there is a good DIY conversion write up that is recent and good), and if I am not mistaken the later year fuel rail assembly inlet is in the rear (your present renix fuel rail inlet is in the front) meaning you have fuel lines to re route etc.... I too ordered a 91/92 gale banks header thinking the only difference was the 0-2 issue and I could easily get around it for the time being..... The Banks is still in the box ...after having the 0-2 bung welded in. It opened up enough things that needed to be addressed (and cost $$$ I did not have at the time) I ordered a pacesetter header and put it on in the mean time so I could move forward with the replacemnet of the exhaust systerm pipe cat muffler and get bucky back on the road..... I will after the truck gets back from the paint shop. install the banks and upgrade the rest of what is involved when I can take the time and money to do the job correctly.

Does anyone have a spare set of the plastic trim pieces that goes around the factory bucket seat brackets (at the bottom that hides the metal brackets)? Color does not really matter as I will dye them agate to match the seats. I will pay a fair (whatever that is) price plus shipping. Thought I had a set stashed but no......... please let me know. thanks buffalo b

Ditto this plus I used a standard hose clamp (around the POS plastic connector) at the back of the speedo....

Not A Real Project Yet, Assembling Ideas Right Now
buffalob replied to Butchershop's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
the wheels will look sweet on the truck, looking forward to seeing them mounted. -
absolutely what I was after thank you very much for all the input Butchershop your install pics look great and are very helpful thanks. I hope my interior efforts turn out half as good. Anyone else done this from the same folks, and used the higher end (read more $$) cut pile with the mass backing? (read even more $$$) Presently my truck still has the original vinyl and padding and in prettyt poor shape. both are dumpster bound... (plus I cut them both up pretty good putting the AEV cable shifter kit in for the NP231).

Got together with the painter yesterday, He dropped over to pick up a box of odds & ends I had neglected to include We have over the last couple of weeks, had a a bit of a cold snap in Colorado and they apparantly had an issue with the heat in the shop he works out of in Sterling. Obviously no heat no paint... The weather is now warming up and they have gotten beyond the heat issue. The final coat of primer is on following the last blocking of his body work. He was not overly impressed with my bodywork...go figure. He says he should be shooting paint within the week. I am also told to expect progess photos via e-mail...... I am so ready to get her home..

Many thanks for the input! I have heard / read not so good things about the company ACC. Also heard that some folks thinking they were ordering carpet from other companies actually recieved ACC product that was being re-sold to them, I used an ACC carpet when doing my son's civic hatchback years ago (his first car) when he was still in high school. the fit was so-so but as you say with enough time and patience (and heat, glad to hear I was on the right track there), it came out ok. It seems that this is really the only company name that I seem to run accross. Realizing the age of our trucks and significant lack of aftermarket support, I know options on brand or manufacturer are limited. I just wanted to know if there was anything else out there I should be considering. Again, I would truly welcome any opinions on the subject. A link to a photo thread on install would be great.

don't waste time thinking....are you on your way with a trailer yet...have you left yet...have you left yet....nuff said.

This topic has no doubt already been kicked around to death. I want to put carpet into Bucky when back from the painters. Covered by some good floor mats of course. But I would like the group consensus on carpet replacement. what company did you use? are you happy with it? how was the install? how has it held up? would you do it again? what did it cost you? Any and all tips, feed back, warnings or laughter (photos?) will be appreciated and/or (at the very least) tolerated. buffalo b

Brake Lights Not Working: Help Diagnose
buffalob replied to Comanchemodder's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the fuse is good this is the first thing I would check.... That's what my problem was.... -
Thanks for the compliment...I told the painter, "I want the color shot as close to the same color as the wheels as you can get it" This guy does show cars lowriders and such, this is the first 4X4 he has done, (he was not originally sold on the project). But called me after getting a look at it one day in the summer when he was in the neighborhood. He bought my neighbors old "company car" a '59 cadillac ambulance (ever see ghostbusters?). and asked my neighbor about my truck. When Tim (the painter) got the '59 it was highlighter yellow in color with red wheels and wide whites, it is also bagged and almost drags. the interior was 3" long fake green mohair...looked like someone skinned the grinch and uppolstered the ride with the hide. It also sports a blown 500 ci caddy engine btw. The ambulance is currently in the same shop with my truck, and is now in primer. I will try to get some shots of it when I get out to pick up bucky and post em up it is a seriously bad ride.

custom made for the truck by Jarod Fessler now in Brighton Colorado his company name is Fessybuilt, check his website. I think he is still in the process of moving his buisness / shop from Broomfield and not currently taking orders, but I don't want to speak for the man....check it out your self.

Love the color man. I have had mine in the paint shop 6 weeks and the only directive I gave the painter was, " get the color as close as you can to the wheels" I am dying to get it back. you painted your wheels to accent the truck, I am having the truck painted to accent the wheels...go figure. Really like your color combo. Bob in Denver

Best Prep For Paint/dye Vinyl Panels?
buffalob replied to buffalob's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
yes it was... many thanks for the info (and your quick response). Man I love this website...... (and your truck btw) -
I know I recently read a write up for prepping the interior panels for re-dying for the life of me I can't find it now. I have light grey interior panels, dash, door panels, center console that I want to re-dye in OEM agate. What is the consensus on the best prep method please. I seem to remember reading that a serious cleaning followed by a good scrub with 320 grit. and final wipe down with alcohol was reccomended. I have 6 cans of vinyl die in chrysler agate (I think the mfg is SEM? I am at work and the cans are at home). I know that with any paint etc, the key to doing a good job is all in the prep, So your best reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks..... Bob in Denver

If it was for the rescue green on your MJ Ryan, then it was worth every bit of the wait......

you mean the squarish one on the B pillar? those are the cab vents, the black plastic covers go over to cover it. They mount on the 4 round holes. and yes they are left and right handed....stuck em on the wrong sides once....oops. Thanks for the compliment... I am dying to get it back from the paint shop been 6 weeks now (I think... trying not to count them)

I know that there are vaccum diagrams floating aroung on the forum...I literally in the past have just replaced everything I could get at with similar size new rubber lines. Along with correcting intake manifold leaks. Also have you correctly adjusted the TPS? (took me the longest time to get that one figured out, and I would still be guessing at it without the help on this forum). The other major improvement for me came when I realized that (especially in the cold) that I had several fuel injectors that were seriously leaking. I had not noticed it before as I have no working e-brake yet (gotta get that done dammit) So it was rare to be on my step stool under the hood with the engine running. The colder it was the worse they leaked....Bad O-rings (my 4,0 liter has 275(ish) thousand miles on the clock)... Rather than just replace the o-rings I scored a reconditioned bosch set (4 port) off ebay for $ 70.00 shipped. major improvement over the old tired ones, they were shot, clogged and leaking, a miracle I did not have a fire really.

1990 Rebirth ('97 Conversion)
buffalob replied to Rymanrph's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I like the color we have a 97 TJ and a 2000 XJ in the family that are both this "steel blue" (for lack of a more informend knowledge of the correct name) I actually considered it for Bucky, as it would lend itself to the agate interior I am working on. fuzzy dice in rescue green....hmmmmm. -
holy $#!& batman!!!! I just spent a substancial bit of my coffee drinking time this morning reading your complete build thread. Awesome transformation, awesome work, awsome truck....
