Support bracket access?
Thunderbear replied to Thunderbear's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got it. Sawzalled a 1"x1" chunk out of the top of the crossmember above the steering box just enough to get a universal joint and socket on the top nut. Then took a prybar and rotated the whole bracket left using the other bolt as a pivot point, exposing the access. Quite a bit less professional than I would like, but it worked. Front hitch is on! -
Support bracket access?
Thunderbear replied to Thunderbear's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Grinding the heads hadnt occurred to me. Good idea, thanks. The problem is the steering box is bolted right behind it, precluding almost all access. And since this is a 2.5 it has that bizarro crossmember, which is boxed and bracketed in all the worst place. Edit: I actually have fishing wires to do just that, as they came with as part of the install. Problem is, there aren't any holes in the frame big enough to get the damn bolt into, except for the one behind the immovable bracket! :ack: -
Trying to get the bracket off in red. The bolts in blue have 15mm nuts on the back, that are, as far as I can tell, completely inaccessible. Any ideas on how to get to them? I need to get access to behind it for the last bolt for the hitch, and as far as I can tell, this is the only frame rail access there is. It's -so- close!

31 7/8" front 32 1/2" rear with about 200 pounds of snow in the back. It's -18 out, so I hope that's close enough.
-
As good as it is, that's not the best one! :rotf:
-
No, I get that. But demand for a front hitch has got to be exponentially less than demand for a rear hitch, wouldn't you think?
-
How the hell does Curt not have a rear receiver for the MJ, but has a front hitch for it? :hmm:

Early Bronco?

I can look, but my 86 has a bit bigger tires than stock. Is approximately close enough?

:clapping: :rotf: Nice. I had it happen on my TJ. Rolled on the rear drum, broke the fender flare, but she's still truckin.

Break the passenger or driver window if you have to. Stupid easy to replace, and usually dirt cheap. Or, if you are like the majority of us, reach up from the bottom, push the carpet over, and unlock the door. Rob I just twist the vent window open with my thumb.

You mean all MJs aren't this way? :fs1:

If my truck looked like yours I'd consider leaving the red interior. That actually looks sharp with that color.. and I never thought I'd say that. -
Mine is new too, but it's also nearly frozen solid, so that's why it's not wanting to cooperate with me. :ack:

Interesting. In my red interior, that piece is black. Where does that vent between the two lead to? I have a hose with no home on mine, and no where to connect to as far as I can see. -

Not an engineering background, but landscape architecture. Nonetheless, I will share what I come up with with the Comanche community ;) viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15166 says otherwise. You may not have the CE behind your name, but that build is straight up engineer level thoroughness. -

Oh, thank you Jesus for engineers. Let us know when you get the CAD file? -
Do or die, Guns. If you're worried about things falling, I'd move that Hi Lift. I have a scar on my TJ hardtop and another on my head to remind me how f'in dangerous they can be. They always release at the wrong time. :ack:

The Magpul PMAG, generally... failing that, the USGI with upgraded followers. ;)

So many things I need! :ack: If you don't find one before I pull mine, you can have my rear wall carpet. Your favorite cordovan.

What jackass decided putting the axle through the sump was a viable plan? Unfreakingbelievable. I would like to see this swap, as well.
