[quote name= I'm as patriotic as the next guy' date=' but the domestic auto market fell out of my favor long ago. Lemme tell ya a story about the last car she owned, a Dodge. Nevermind, I don't have enough space to write about how lousy it was, what with it's 3/36 warranty and all.....

My SBC sat just fine when my truck was stock height. I even took it off road a few times and never had any oil pan problems (until I dropped her down on a rock, but that is another story). But I also used circle track solid type motor mounts made by Allstar performance so my motor sits a little higher in the engine bay. Cooling is kinda an issue but I am working the bugs out of it. But hey I drive my truck to my wheeling spot, wheel it and drive it home and the only time I really had a high temp scare is when I did a water crossing and forgot to turn my fan back on. I love my SBC powered Manche. :chillin:

Maybe after you get your rig buttoned back up you can come wheelin' with me as I am only about an hour away, and the ORV park is ten maybe fifteen minuets from my house.

This is one of my favorite water crossings at The Mounds. -
You wanna talk vibration? Try a V8 with solid motor mounts in one of these things. :D

Could you keep me in mind when you decide to get rid of it? Who knows maybe my pockets go deeper than I think.

Roofing tar is good rust preventative :teehee: -
I don't know the conversion from litres to gallons but to get the 20gal tanks for the fork trucks filled it is $30 for two. And there are about 3 places within 10min of my house. So it looks like my next big mod is propane. I guess that Rubicon 5.5" lift will just have to wait a little longer.
-
I want to say they are the same, because when I went to buy spring wraps after the AAL was installed I think they were 2" wraps.
-
All this talk about propane has got me feelin' like Hank Hill.... Man, got to get me some propane and propane accessories.
-
You might also want to check Holley or Magna Fuel too. They make good pumps.

Slayer f-ing rocks! I've seen them a few times. And I partied with them at the Machine Shop here in Flint. My advice is if you don't like black eyes or busted lips you might want to steer away from the mosh pit they can get pretty intense at their shows. If I ain't sore, bruised, or a little bloodied up after exiting the pit I feel cheated. I say friggin' mosh some heads off and have an awesome time. Get some pics if they allow it you lucky S.O.B. :chillin:

The kit I am looking at is the one from www.gotpropane.com for the small block chevys. They say HP loss is zero to not even noticeable, some cases they say there was a horsepower gain. Carrying fuel doesn't bother me very much I would just get two forktruck tanks and make sure they are secure in the bed. Maybe make a cool safety enclosure for them. I dunno still sounds alright to me. I like the idea of gas not spilling all over if I roll.

I just want to know if the benefits are enough to warrant spending $1500.00 converting my V8 over.
-
Anyone know anybody running propane? Anyone running it on a V8? What are your opinions? I would like to know because I was looking at conversion kits and it sounds pretty cool.

what can those be found under? anything close to stock width in that? disc brakes I imagine are available/have been done by the musclecar guys. I'm going 8.8 or 8 3/4 wen I do it this spring. I was leaning towards 8.8 because I can go find one geared 3.73 to match my front for about $90. My rear is exactly stock width, the only mods were moving the spring perches in about an inch and a half. If you look under any pre-80's Dodge truck, van or full size car you should be able to find one. Mine is from a 66' D100 pick-up. Look for the drop out third member and you want one with an "X" cast on the carrier, there will also be numbers cast in the side of the carrier. You want the last three to be either "741" or "742" those are the stronger ones. Disc brake kits are readily avaliable. The gears are usually 3:73s. I don't know why but mine was a 2:91, luckily for me my boss has a 69' Charger that looks almost identical to the one in Fast and Furious, deep pockets and a heavy foot. He layed into the charger broke his axle a boom I get a free carrier with 3:91 gears. I put a mini spool in it bolted her up and have been loving it ever since. And the trick to not having them leak is to not be shy with the silver sealant. :chillin:

I know I keep saying this every time the subject comes up but, grab a Mopar 8 3/4 for the rear. 5 on 4.5, drop out third, it's a cool setup if you ask me.

I have it going on right now with mine and the bearings in my alternator are shot. A good way to test this out would be to turn your lights, heater, and any other power accessories you have and see if it gets worse. Mine seems to do it mostly when I am running my elec. fan, The fan draws like 30amps because it is a high performance model, but this puts a load on the alternator and then causes the bearings to get sticky and the belt to slip. If you are gonna replace the alternator go with Powermaster you can get a 100amp alt. for a little over $100 and it is all new construction.
-
Them's some good longarms on there but I think you would get a little more clearence with TruTemper oak axe handles. I'm guessing those are the greenpeace biodegradeable models? But think of this you can just soak them in oil to get rid of any freeplay. :rotfl2:

New doodads to install finally...
possum replied to possum's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Ahh but you must remember your alternator is a different beast than mine, for I have a chebby V8 shoehorned in the compartment. -
Well it looks like my next few weekends are full. Got some simple toys too add. They consist of= 2 MT baja claws for the rear, aluminum radiator w/ plastic tanks stock style (to replace my brass rad that I have in right now), and the best a Powermaster 140amp alternator ( to replace the stinky 65amp stocker) And over this winter period I will also be installing LeBaron hood vents ( thanks again feerocknok). I will have pics when I start. Looks like christmas came early for me. :chillin:

That kicks big ole' buttocks. I'm startin' to warm up to the TJ flares on these MJ's but it just doesn't satisfy my want to be different.
