  1. I haven't done a SOA but it will lift it a lot it can be anywhere from 5-8 inches of lift. you can get a close guess by adding axle thickness + spring perch height + spring pack thickness
  2. well if you are going to haul stuff i would deal with the rear being higher than the front, when you add weight that will level it out but I do agree with you to a point This does not look right this with the rear slightly higher than the front looks "right" to me to me it just looks stupid when someone levels their truck then put a trailer that pulls it way down in the rear when if it where stock it would have been level. But we all have out own opinions there is mine. if you do level it get some metric ton springs, at least then it will stay level better and not lower it too much.. and the Hell Creek Metric Ton springs lifted the rear of my Comanche about 3 inches as seen if the top picture.
  3. Dad's MJ speedometer does not have a trip odometer on it so just swapping it out should just be straight forward, minus those pesky legal issues. My question is, his MJ us column shift, does the gear indicator have some special precaution to take to prevent damaging it or do i just pull out? thanks
  4. Time for an update, had the alignment done a while back and the axle swap and replacing the control arms made a huge difference. also swapped the speedometer gears to match the "new" rear axle gears. now it drives great, rides great, and the speedometer is spot on. Just need to replace the brake booster and will be set for now.
  5. my 88 4.0 4WD gets 14-19 mpg but i average 16.5 - 17 depending on my driving. If you want you can keep track of my MPG at Fuelly.com, my user there is Blue88Comanche here is a link http://www.fuelly.com/driver/blue88comanche Oceanic815 also has his Comanche on there as well I think his MJ has the 2.5L
  6. I like my SWB MJs, but with the tool box in My Blue MJ that means the Dirt bikes ATVs and the lawnmower won't fit with the tail gate up. but I don't have any of those so it does not matter much to me and thats what a trailer is for :D There have only been a couple times i could have used a LWB but again thats what a trailer is for
  7. Comanches do have an ac option, at the time they used R12, so of it has not been converted it would be a good idea to do that and replace all the seals in the system.
  8. My first Vehicle was my Comanche, I started out hateing it because it was a 5 speed, and did not have A/C, and other minor problems. my parents put 1-2k into it to make it safe to drive, (the electrical had to be rewired, over heating, and lights) I finally started toying with it and fixing something here and there. a year or so later dad had it repainted and that's when I knew for a fact the Comanche was for me I loved it after then even if i still did not have a/c, headliner, carpet, cup holders, and a working parking brake. now everyone who knows me knows that my Comanche is my baby, I don't let anyone drive it, i won't even let dad drive it across the yard... bottom line, would i buy another.... I shouldn't, but if the price is right, and i have cash :fool: .. I would buy another :thwak: Comanche's are fun, but now my needs have changed. I bought my WK as my commute Jeep, I needed something that i knew would not let me down at random and got good MPG. but that also allows me to do much needed work on my Comanche, like getting the 4wd working again.
  9. I took video from the massive hurricanes from April 2011 where I was fording around two feet of water driving out of our development. Our house did not flood only since it was build on higher ground. I don't remember any hurricanes last year that affected us, but I was reminded that there where some further north that Alabama. we did not do too much driving because I was waiting for a call and did not want to talk and drive at the same time. the deepest we went through was about 1 - 2 feet at its deepest.
  10. I never have remembered it flooding that bad, even during hurricanes I don't remember that much flooding. But then again I did not drive around afterward.. Robert and I drove Dad's liberty around Grand Bay. The end of Henderson camp road was flooded where it turns to dirt, warren creek road (i think that's the name) near the creek the water was almost up to the bridge and just past it the road was flooded as well as some houses. parts of some roads where starting to wash away, and on Grand Bay Wilmer Road, the side of the road did wash away, up to the yellow line any way.
  11. I think its time to fix the 4wd on my Comanche
  12. Its been raining sense Friday, mostly off and on now. Saturday however this is what i woke too. Lets start with the Back yard. the drainage ditch along the fence is full and over flowing. This is a vent for the underside of the house. The front yard from the driveway. We knew it was going to storm so we parked the Jeeps in the front yard away from the trees, and on the "high ground" Robert seeing how deep the water was and the Road The ditch is about 4 feet deep and 6 feet wide tpxOevBdrFw&hd=1
  13. spent 30 min trying out how how the belt tension adjuster works, then changed the alternator on dads jeep
  14. my room mate had an 2001 ish Audi A4 1.8t... I did all the work on it. the oil change was a pain in the rear. had to remove the radiator bottle to get to the oil filter. the battery is in a odd place as well. I am pretty sure the owners before him wore the hell out of that poor car, but not long after he got it is started to sound and run bad. it did not have much power and only got up to 20 MPG if i remember correctly. the CV boots are one of those things that wears out fast and if it breaks and you loose all the grease, then you would need to replace that CV shaft and bearing. that was one of those things that we had to fix as well. another issue his car and similar years had was the heat from the turbo would burn out one of the Coil packs, it got to the point he was buying another one every other month or so at 90 dollars a pop. some of the good things is it has a huge trunk we where able to fold down the rear seats and fit a 60" tv in the trunk. I also liked how the lug nuts where for the car, but that may just be me... not trying to down all of those cars just my personal experience with that Line of cars
  15. that's true, when are you getting the MJ back from the shop?
  16. you could rhino line in their place like what i did
  17. I realize this is old but may have an answer I was searching for. Is this true, if so I am soooo happy I didn't buy that expensive kit yesterday from teamcherokee. I am definitely trying this tonight with the inner wipes from the parts truck. Do you have to remove those little metal tabs on the inside of the outer track or are they needed to hold the "new" ones on as well. when we replaced ours we reused the clips as needed.
  18. from what i have been told dot 3 fluid can go bad IF moisture gets to it, opened, used, then stored for years, and so on. but that's what i have been told and I haven't bought a large container in a while just small ones. next time i replace something dealing with the clutch i am swapping to dot 5 for sure I used the same hydro system for my AX-15, just a new slave clutch cyl.
  19. and the front axle is passenger side drop as well
  20. in that case it you are replanting everything then use dot 5
  21. I know a few of us have wanted to make a teardrop camper in the past. well today while on one of my favorite project sites http://hackaday.com I found this post http://hackaday.com/2012/05/24/building-a-travel-trailer-from-the-ground-up/ that has a link to the actual build instructions here: https://sites.google.com/site/buildingateardroptrailer/home I thought it was neat and so i am passing it along
