Mj Axle Ratio Choices 4X4 Swap
Blue88Comanche replied to 87sparTruck's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would start by checking with the places listed below. Most 2.5L I-4 Jeeps will have 4.10 or 4.11 (same thing) gears but you could always get lucky and find one in the pick and pull, best way to check the ratio is to count the theeth, or fin the tooth count stamp on the ring gear. Craigslist, car-part.com, local Pick and Pulls, other salvage yards it might even be cheaper to buy a 4wd Donor with 4.10 gears, then you would have a few extra parts then sell the rest as scrap -

Mj Axle Ratio Choices 4X4 Swap
Blue88Comanche replied to 87sparTruck's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cost of gears an labor, and maybe a new carrier and bearings, anywhere between $400 - $800 if you stay "open carrier" more if you drop in an auto or selectable locker if you change gears in a 2.5l keep the 4.10 or go 4.56 -
Comanche Of The Month - April 2013
Blue88Comanche replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Thanks for the compliments on the truck, but I have never served in our nations Military. However we do have strong ties to the military, as most of our family is serving or has served in the various branches. -
My sister seems to be doing well no broken bones (much to the doctors disbelief) she is mostly bruised and a few cuts, and she took out the bus' mirror. The doc gave her a note to skip class tomorrow.
-
I think it was a Tiger Trans bus, so the university? I don't know if the city has its own transit system
-
Mom Called me while at work and said that my sister was just hit by a bus, and she was unable to contact anyone to check on her. My cousin was able to head up to the hospital and arrived shortly after the ambulance. from what we where told she may have a broken foot, and she seems to be doing ok. what happened? she was on the phone with mom waiting for the cross walk to cross the road, it signaled to let her pass when a Auburn Transit bus decides to make a right turn and hits her (we are unsure how the bus hit her ant the moment), mom said the phone died, and called back and someone answers the phone and told mom that she was just hit. I am sending mom home from work to chill out.

Who all has relocated their winch control box and to where? what did you need? I would like to have the box under the hood somewhere, and have in Cab controls while still being able to use the factory winch remote in the front. I have a smittybilt XRC8 winch Thanks!

we had 6 windows (just the side windows) done on my mom's KJ for about $100. I think the front 2 windows where 30% and the 4 back windows where 15%, it looked nice on the white Jeep
-
If an XJ axle is used you will need to remove the perches and shock mounts and relocate the spring perches to match the MJ width. My local P&P has truck axles for $90 out the gate.
-
the best way is to pull off the cover and count the teeth, or look for the tooth count stamp on the ring gear (it should tell you the tooth count of the Ring and Pinion gears). some times there are still the ratio tags on the axle. but most manual transmissions 4.0s had 3.07 stock

Comanche Of The Month - April 2013
Blue88Comanche replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
Thanks for the MJOTM Honor guys! -
Probably either the shafts were swapped in, or the whole axle was swapped. Do you remember if it was an HP or LP? AFAIK, XJs never came with CV joints other than on the front driveshaft 84-86. I think it was a HP
-
the Strength of a CV style joint is debatable but if you are going to be using a 242 in full time 4wd all the time like me then i would get the CV joints. if you go the U-Joint rout they can be had with larger and stronger joints if you plan to off road often.
-
a puller tool works wonders when removing those rings. and yes i installed CV joints, they work better with the 242 in full time I saw an XJ at the u pull it with CV joints. a 3 arm puller would have been nice when removing the shafts from the unit bearing, but a wood block and hammer work well too

Raptor Liner Or Monsterliner Exterior Of Truck
Blue88Comanche replied to 92tanMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is this known for a fact? Because I feel like if it come in the door some it would be a lot harder to get it to flake off Well like I said I'm not sure if I have the skill to do a DIY real paint job, and I don't have enough money to pay someone. Maybe ill have to do an OD Green rattle can job hahaha the spray in bed liner i used for my truck is chipped in several places on the tailgate and in the bed. but the rock panels and flares seem to be fine. -
Rear Brake Adjustment
Blue88Comanche replied to thejum57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
my e-brakes are not working as well.... mostly because the cable is stuck in the apply brake position and the little cross bars apparently had to be removed... I discovered this Saturday when i tried to fix my e-brakes... Do you know if you have all the hardware? no amount of adjusting is going to help the e-brake unless you have all the parts. -
I know somewhere on this forum it the info i need and have tried to find it without any luck. We too dads MJ up to the shop to get the ac running again.. Saturday we drove about an hour with the ac on after it rained and water started coming from the dash, The MJ has not leaked prior to refilling the ac so i dout its rain water leaking in. but i remember heading here that there was a little hose that allows the condensation from the ac through the firewall and to outside.. I just can't locate that tube to clean it...

Rear Brake Adjustment
Blue88Comanche replied to thejum57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What is this tool you speak of? When I adjusted mine I just used my fingers then test fit the drum till it was just able to go on, then I let the self adjuster do the rest... I think I read to drive forward then press the brake hard, then reverse and press the brake hard, then repeat 3 times... The next stop sign that grandma blows through and you slam the brakes will finish the adjusting process lol edit -
Had a good trip to the junk yard today, pillaged a good looking tailgate, rear left tail light, a d44 axle shaft, 2 Comanche cab vents.
