Top Transmission Bolts

Yep, replaced those SOB's with regular bolts when I did the swap. -
Or lock it over permanently. Lots of folks (including myself) have done that with no looking back.

I did just the opposite. Converted an auto to 5 sp. Mine was already 4x4. The best advice I can offer is get a cherokee of the same year to use as a donor. It doesn't have to be the same year, but the closer the better. Just get one of the same vintage. (87-90) would be your 1st choice. Then you can swap everything over directly. Small things to consider: Your rear driveshaft will have to be modified or replaced as it will need to be shorter. You will need to make sure that your rear axle and front are geared the same or have one of them changed. Everything on the cherokee from the cab forward will swap directly. From the cab back, it won't. So If you use the cherokee rear axle, you'll have to modify it to fit on the MJ. It's not the hardest thing in the world to do, but It will be pretty involved and not for the light hearted. But fun if you are into these kind of things.

2.5 or 4.0? How have you checked these things? For example, spark. Did you check to see if you had spark or did you check the plugs for fouling? Are they gapped correctly? How old are they? How bout the plug wires? Intermittent issue with them can cause missing. How are the cap and rotor? Any corrosion? Moisture? The more information you can give us, the more likely someone will come up with your solution.- 2 replies

Check to make sure the bolts are tight on the shocks. One may be loose. If that's not it, check other areas in the front end to ensure that nothing else is loose.

Comanche Addict... That's not the name. That's a thing that gets attached to everyone after a certain amount of posts. Name is a bit higher. Electrical is easy on the Comanche. Don't let it stop you. There is tons of info on this site about how to fix everything. Toyota's are OK, but not for me. Comanche's are better. We even have our own smiley... :MJ 1:

Because comanche's are better. Parts interchange with cherokees so lots of parts available. Big ton package on long beds 2205 lb haul capacity. Very reliable 4.0 engines, good for 250K easily with proper maintenance. Because they are JEEP's, Duh. Because comanche's are better.

Sure hope 2013 will be better than the last 2.

I like to drive TJ's as well. The wife's is a 4 cyl and I still like to drive it even though it can't get out of it's own way. I like the color... Girly? WTF? It's not like it's baby blue. I loved the yellow one you posted the pic of sometime earlier. Yellow is my favorite TJ color. The steel Blue/Gray you have is my second fav. I'm like you on the LJ, like them, but wouldn't pay the price for initial buy in. Just curious, what did you pay for this one? -
I've got a pair that I could sell you, but have you tried the local bone yards? If you can find one, it would probably be as cheap as the shipping costs.

One More 4X4 Swap Question
Dadinator replied to comanche32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I added about 2 inches to mine when I went from AW4 to AX15. I used a portion of my XJ donor's shaft. If you cannot fab, then you either have to find a drive shaft at the yard for your combo or have one made or modified. -

linkage for the transfer case and shifter. Front Driveshaft. You'll need a rear driveshaft, but obviously the XJ one won't work. All I can think of off the top. -

One More 4X4 Swap Question
Dadinator replied to comanche32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think so, but not sure. As long as you get the transmission controller. (TCU) Not sure if a 93 would still have it or would be controlled by the ECU. If it has a TCU, it should work. Would be under the dash on the passenger side.
