  1. The main problem your running into is getting the backer board, the cover you can pick up at Jo-ann's Fabric, or at Wal-mart. I guest if you can get your hands on some heavy duty cardboard, like a frig box, you could form up a backer board, but the way the OEM backer board is "formed" and curved........that's the problem. I know, you can't afford it now, but I don't see spending a hugh amount of time trying to make a backer board over buying one all ready made up, and covered. Or.......try to find one in a junk yard that just needs new fabric on it ;)
  2. I don't see any problem with hooking up the load leveler, as long as it still works, the problem is, they have been discontinued long time ago, and even the parts to re-build and re-set them are no longer available. That's where the problem come into play. They are a good advantage if your hauling a load, I remember when Ford also use a load leveler for the brakes years ago, now no manufacture uses them, plus, with rear disks, not even needed. I say, if it works, hook it up and use it, BUT......maybe Eagle will be so kind to post the 12  step process that's need to bleed the brake system after you hook it back up ;)
  3. lol.. dana but it only had 4 leafs... did the dana's not come with the metric ton?? I have a '89 swb with a D44 and 4 leafs, and it had the OEM trailer hitch, so I under stand a D44 "might" have came with the 'towing package'. I Had (RIP) a '87 lwb that had a D44 and 5 leafs, and a after market hitch. Oh......and don't worry about the this one.......many parts have been spread all over the country from this rust box donor  That reserve (selling price) might be high, But......these things in that condition are going for that kind of money.......lot's of us will not pay that price, but it's out there. We're all use to paying $400 and then dumping another $1500 into them in parts........and lot's of time, so in the end....... We're at that price range.
  4. With the 2.8 and the rough red interior.......it's all your ;) :teehee:
  5. Is that rear soft line good for soa swap? I have been looking for the part # of that line. NO, I do believe that an early Dakota soft line will work, being longer, and same size fittings. This is from rockauto.com - ('88 Dakota) RAYBESTOS Part # BH38576 {Professional Grade} Rear; Center $16.12

  11. Your kind of doing an "over-all" maintenance on your truck, So......Planning is the key factor, read the articles that we all posted, Get your materials (parts) in order, plan your attack, and everything will go smooth. Nothing worst than having to take something back apart cause you forgot to install a part  Like your dropping the transmission, get the in-put and out-put seals, and change them, get the filter and gasket and change the fluid too. You have the drive shaft out, change the U-joints. With the drive shaft off, change the pinion seal on the D35, very prone to leak........Just a planning stage I cover to do one thing. Also, if your changing the CPS, the best way to do this is when the tranny is lowered, off the cross member, gives you access to the the 2 pita bolts. Case would be different if you broke down and Had to get it going...... So, if your waiting for parts to come in......that's move planning time ;) I popped up the oil filter adapter cause that's prone to leak, like it's been said, all the parts, rubber, cork, electrical and steel parts on these trucks are 20 years old......and well.......nothing last for ever.............except the MJ :D One thing you'll learn on these Jeeps, have a good full set of both Metric and SAE, Oh......and a bunch of Torx's. These trucks are so mixed up on the fasteners......you'll go nuts trying to find the right wrench
  12. :hmm: Good question.........Steph is 800+ ahead now........I'll go a little more tonight, then rest the voting finger. We don't want it to look to "fishy"

  18. There are many '88 XJ's that can be bought for cheap for this conversion, in fact, a XJ would make a perfect Donor for this project. Having both vehicles at the same time saves alot of problems, with missing this part and that part, just reach over to the donor, and grab the missing part. Going from a manual to an automatic trans has a lot of parts that need to be changed over. The console you have now for the manual, just the rubber boot is pulled out, and the auto shifter in install in it's place, you can keep the same console. Also the coin holder pops out, and the TC shifter bezel snaps in place. About the only thing you will need, as mentioned, is the rear drive shaft, and if he going to keep it stock hight, just ask here, I know, I have a couple rear drive shafts for LWB, 4.0, AW4, 231 set ups.
  19. Maybe she has 'friends' you don't know about  Yea, thanks to SuperWade......I've been hitting votes on 2 browser And getting in twice as many votes :D

  23. You got me thinking :hmm: So.....I hit Google and came up with this- Google this I know I've hear of some kind of spray on sealer.......some wheres
  24. Yea......don't forget to add......."Great on gas too" :teehee:
  25. Yea.......I've been slipping up......darn day job keeps me busy too  GoJeep has a little better write up on how to change the RMS and the oil pan gasket......at least I think it is :D Color pictures too ;) http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoRearMain.htm One thing, you don't have to, but if your taking the tranny down for another reason......it is a lot easier to change out the RMS and the oil pan gasket. And after your done with that, another problem area is the oil filter adapter and the front timing chain gasket and harmonic balancer seal.......Oh.....and the Valve cover gasket. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Eng ... -Rings.htm Thanks for covering for me Chico
