  1. Mine does it too!! I hate it, and it drives me nuts. I'm hoping it will go away.
  2. I learned the clutch thing on the tractors at work. Then I drove a Saab 93 to the Equine Affair in Springfield Mass. That was my first REAL standard-on-the road experience.
  3. Can you bring in an old one, and compare it with the two parts?
  4. I had Mitchell's in mind. Thanks for posting. I will give them a ring. There is also a place in Leominster that does it I think. I don't really have the $500 for a new shaft and SYE now, so I think that re-tubing the drive shaft with a heavier tube is the best option.
  5. Its quite boring actually. I was playing on my neighbor's rock pile, and got hung up on a rock, and a telephone pole that was laying there. A rock was under the left rocker pannel, and the right front tire was off the ground. I had no traction. I pulled the truck back with my XJ, and had somone give it some gas. It began to corkscrew, and pulled out of the slip yoke. Pic: I think I'm going to try to get it re-tubed locally. I don't have $500 to spend on an SYE and new DS right now.
  6. well I turned mine into a corkscrew tonight. Is it better to get another stock one, or should I spring for an after market piece? I don't really want to go through this again. Are shafts like Tom Woods stronger? Is it worth it to eliminate the slip yoke, and go with a SYE? I have no vibs, so I don't really need it. Thoughts?
  7. I don't think that 4.0s werent available in 1986. Any pics?
  8. I was also going to comment on the bumper. Sharp truck you have there Jeff!
  9. Thank you CW!! :D
  10. Yeah, I had to leave it on a powerline trail (legal though). So it gets lots of traffic. I can't imagine leaving my rig for more then 12 hours...thats just scarry!!
  11. Went wheeling yesterday, bent my tie-rod at 7PM 1/4 mile from the trail end. Spent close to 2 hours trying to fix it, but ty spare rod's TRE threads were f'ed and I couldnt use it.......and it was raining. There were 6 other rigs behind me, one of which had no front drive shaft. We simply didnt have time to fix my rig. It was dark, and raining, so I had to pull it off the side, and leave it. We didnt get off the trail till 11PM and many people didnt get home till 1:30AM Very scary. I pulled the tie-rod off the '86 MJ and went out there this morning with my Cherokee, and put that on. Long story short, the MJ is back in my driveway, and home safe. Good thing it was only 30-40 miles away. I NEVER want to do that again........................
  12. Well I'm on the home strech! Here is the gas tank skid plate. I still have to install the transfer case skid, do some touch up on the bumper, put in a new D30 pinion yoke, and put breather lines on the axles. Tomorrow is the day of the trail run!
  13. And in the rear get a mid 1990s Dodge Dakota rear line. At 6.5" I still have PLENTY of room left.
  14. They are actualy stock CJ 15x7 rims with a 5x4.5 to 5x5.5 adapter thats 1.25" thick. They don't rub at all, but the best part is, I LOVE the rims.
  15. To date, the fartest I've gone is about 4 miles  . After that, the tunnel was warm to the touch, but not scorching hot. I can get a better report after this weekend. Thanks for the complements. I'm working on a gas tank skid plate now...hopefully it will be done today! I have a trail run with my club that I am trying to make this Saturda. Things are looking pretty good so far!
  16. Are you swapping the transfer case too? Depending on the year of your MJ, it might have a 21 or 23 spline output from the tranny. Renix Jeeps had 21 splines, and high-outputs had 23 spline.
  17. Cool, I called it. I don't have a transmission computer right now. I just use some switches that controll all the gears, and the torque converter. Hopefully everything works out with the swap Charles!!
  18. are you the only guy with leaf springs? Nice pics. Much more hard core then my club.
  19. I honestly don't know which plug that green one is, but it looks like the transmission computer plug. The TCU only has 2 rows of plugs, not 4 like that plug.
  20. Thats pretty cool dude. Nice work!
  21. woohoo, its 55 and raining here...like a monsoon. don't we love new england.............
  22. I have about 6.5" in the rear, and have no SYE, and no vibs. I do have a LWB though.
  23. I've got some materials to build my own. I'll give that a whirl, and if I fail, then I will let you know. I will know in a week or so if my skid will fail. Thanks!!!
  24. Yup. The TJs were the first Wrangler to have 1 piece shafts with the 297x shafts. The YJs had the disconnect. XJs started in 1995. No clue about Grands though.
  25. They are good for going straight, but when you turn, they don't have a lot of sideways traction. TSLs are the best tire for New England wheeling. I'd go with the 34x10.50s and drop brackets.
