  1. Wow, lots of work!! I will say we are spoiled in Idaho - no inspection (other than VIN inspection on out-of-state titles) and emissions testing was eliminated last year. Questions: What was the "great deal" on the latest XJ that you couldn't refuse? What about it made you decide to part it?
  2. Not too late to switch to Civil Engineering.
  3. Nice work troubleshooting!
  4. An amazing trip!
  5. Too bad that wasn't a factory option!
  6. Or three more...
  7. Replaced the clutch and the rear main seal. Gotta brag on my son who took on the task of straightening the taco'd transmission crossmember. Should do the trick! A little extra steel never hurt anything... Before (supposed to be straight in the middle) After
  8. I was in Washington D.C. earlier this week. Preparations are being made for the Presidential Inauguration already.
  9. What the?!? Having owned an XJ for the last 23+ years, changing motor mounts has become routine maintenance after that time one motor mount failed completely and the shifter was over in the passenger seat...
  10. Not sure if I'm more impressed with your haul or the job you did raising your kids to have good friends!
  11. Good thought. However, we cut the flooring out around the transfer case shift gate, so there is no flooring in between. Difficult to tell from the photos due to our tight tolerances and excellent craftsmanship.
  12. And if you are like me, get it all put back together, get in to drive it and wonder why it doesn't move... The fact that we didn't have to lower the vehicle to tighten the lug nuts should have been the red flag, but at the time it seemed awfully convenient. That was the experience we had last winter putting free from a co-worker snow tires and "universal" wheels on one of our vehicles last year. Fortunately we didn't have the same problem on the rear (driven) wheels and two snow tires was better than no snow tires.
  13. We've done several headliners with a can of headliner adhesive and a couple yards of fleece from the fabric store. We documented the Comanche headliner to some extent here:
  14. I guess my answer is both. There is a schematic, but there is still some figuring out on your own.
  15. Yes, very timely! Hopefully there is still no additional (you'll have enough) heat when Phoenix summer swings around again.
  16. Ordered these earlier this year. After exchanging some emails with Chris Cook (chris@ssterlingco.com) from S. Sterling Company he directed me to buy from https://www.partshubdirect.com/euramtec-1/euramtec-universal-12v-auto-courtesy-flip-interior-light-a-7180
  17. Been driving around without a console for a couple years, but after getting the flooring in, we are finally ready to put the console back in. Apparently the flooring, despite being ~1/4" thick, is not as thick as the removed carpet and backing. There is a "gap" between the console and the flooring and we have the MJ console (not in great shape, but it's what we've got). Which leads to the following questions: Console attaches with two screws at the red arrows correct? @eaglescout526's post about a lower boot is timely and we'll have to do that. Here's the gap around the console, particularly on the drivers side of the transmission tunnel (ignore the cross threaded bolt... that will be fixed). We replaced the transfer case shifter bracket from a 97+ Cherokee when working on the transfer case linkage. We thought it was identical to the '89 bracket that came out, but the poor console fit makes us wonder and we need to dig the old one back out and check. Open to any suggestions for closing the gap between the console and the flooring. In hindsight we should have stacked a couple layers of the flooring in the neighborhood of the console, but past that now. Really don't like the idea of the console floating above the floor and only attached by two bolts through the plastic console. Lastly, the "hump" carved out of the front (firewall side) of the console is deeper than is necessary for the transmission tunnel. Is there supposed to just be a gap, or is something supposed to fill that hole?
  18. And I'm guessing this is the drivers door? An introvert may consider a stuck passenger door a feature.
