  2. oh wow not bad. one time late with some friends as a $10 bet i hoped a curb at cvs took out some small trees, went down a big ditch went across the road into anouther ditch and some more trees into a walgreens parking lot and right into a space. the people at the walgreens were all siting out smoking and saw the hole thang. keep in mind this is 2 o clock at night. so i thank there gonna freak out on me but instead one gave me a high five and said that was great and wish she had a vid of it. that was a great night. i got the 10 bucks and made some new friends. not so much off roading but a great story to tell non the less :D
  3. yeah i know my dad told me about the ratio thing thats y when i go to do the 4x4 convert i will be getting a cherokee to rip apart :D oh and how can u tell the diff between the 27 and 29?
  4. dose any one know any thing about the 8.25 rear axle? is it crap or good? and is it a bolt on for our trucks? thanks Brandon
  5. wow that looks great!!!!
  6. i know most yall don't know this but i am a beginner when it comes to off roading and off road recovery. i stared out just asking a ? in the MJ tech side on recovery straps. but now that i have learned a bit more i thought it would be a good idea on making a thread for guys to trade your off road tips and stories that could help us new guys out and maby every one will learn a bit of somthing to make it all alot safer and more fun. Thanks guys Brandon
  7. omg!!! i see that now. when my cable broke(cuz i was using one rated for 2000 pounds  ) it flew a bit but wow! i won't ever use one again What you don't see in that photo is that there was a driver in that Jeep when the strap broke loose. If this is the same incident I saw other photos of several years ago, the driver was killed instantly -- got hit right in the head. Do NOT take chances with recovery gear. And learn the proper methods -- such as draping a heavy jacket or a moving blanket or something over the middle of the strap between the two vehicles to pull it down to the ground if one end gets loose. A standard 2" x 20-foot recovery strap is rated for 20,000 (not 2,000) pounds -- and even those break sometimes. That's all I carried, but a lot of the guys in NAXJA who ran more heavily modified vehicles and went on higher rated trails carried 3" straps rather for 30,000 pounds. thank you so much for all of the tips and warnings. this is my first truck and other then light off roading in old ford (of which i pulled a F250 stuck in the mud up to the to of the rim :clapping: ) and pulling my friends fire bird out of sand cuz hes dum, i have been lucky and un educated with off roading and off road recovery. every and all tips i hear i use and tell others. if you have any other advice that would be a big help to. thanks alot guys  Brandon

  13. omg!!! i see that now. when my cable broke(cuz i was using one rated for 2000 pounds  ) it flew a bit but wow! i won't ever use one again
  14. and oh ok thats not what i was thanking thanks for clearing that up for me
  15. Where and how are the front hooks mounted on your truck? Your earlier post said "bumper," but the factory hooks were NOT mounted to the bumper, they were attached to some rather substantial supplemental brackets that bolted to the front subframe rails. PLEASE tell me you don't have tow hooks bolted directly to the bumper or directly to the frame rails. I'm sorry some times i get into a rush and i don't explain. i thought the factory tow hooks went into the torx bolt on the bottom of the front bumper. after doing more research on it i found there is not factory tow hook parts on the front bumper and that you have to make them  i don't make things so... yeah. i am glad that i did not mount them there and have somthing happen. dose any body know what they were for? i am having some one else help me with the tow hook mounting so i don't screw it up :shake: thanks guys
  16. thanks i thank ill go with a strap and btw i was not using that cable for a winch i just wrapped it around the frame and well just left the rest in the bed. i will how ever stay with hooks for the front just cuz i already painted them :D thanks alot guys this has cleared up alot thanks guys Brandon
  17. Unbolted lol they wouldnt let me in the bay for better shots :fs1:
  18. ok so its takin me a few days but hear we go. This is my 1989 jeep comanche pioneer which i got though a trade for my 1995 ford taurus. the car was is fair conditon so i say since kbb says its worth 1.1k and i payed the old guy 100 on top of the car i payed about $1,200. some times i miss my nicer car but i tore the hell out of it and it was time for me to get a truck :D I'm going to start out with my to do list 1.)rpm insterment cluster $50 2.)rear bumper $80-200 3.)recalabrate odomder ?$ 4.)fix dome lights ?$ 5.)Idle air contal valve $70 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/ ... ing=search 6.)Rear speakers $50 7.)Lift kit 3”-6” $300-700 8.)cb radeo Putin in. $20 9.)new head lights $60 http://www.quadratec.com/products/97009_02.htm 10.)paint job $500 11.)Brush gurd $180 or tube bumper 12.)snorkel $300 or K&N 13.)flow master exuast $190 or http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17655/ 14.)spary on bed linner $500 15.)air conditioning $1,000 16.)4x4 convertion (transfer case, front dana 30/ tranie and rear dana 44) $2,500 17.)Front dana 30 and rear dana 44 diff covers 18.)Rocker rails or runing bords $400 19.)as of 8/15 $6,690 20.)bosh windsheld wipers $40 I know bad spelling but I'm lazy and just copy and pasted it from my note pad list so... any ways i get 25k when i turn 18 and i wish i could spend it all on my truck i need to save as much as i can so I'm only spending about 5k on the truck. sadly with having a dirt drive way, my dad to old and not willing to, and me not knowing what the hell to do, i found a local shop in town that I'm going to use for the 4x4 convert and the lift. for labor not parts hes going to charge me 900 flat and make me some rocker guards. I'm starting looking for a jeep cherokee that i can part out for a dana 30, 44, ac and a bunch of other things the guy in town will take out for me. after that i will try and do as much as i can maby clear 1 thing off of my list every month or so. any ways This is what it looked like the day I bought it. The last people who owned it never fixed any thing and just let it run into the ground:( all 4 tires on it were used even the spair was a used tire. some rust but not so bad the people were from Ohio which explains the rust :( not to bad tho: I liked the running boards at first but when i took them off for my new tires it looks way better. now one of the first mods i did was paint the "jeep" on the tail gate with and since i rly liked the way it looked with the faded paint ive painted every thing since then with that paint. this is what the letters looked like: i know the pic is newer but its a good 1. anyways since then ive added alot of things but ill start off with like seat covers with bullet chains, "Jeep" floor mats, tool box, spare tire, new 31" pirelli scorpion atrs, and a chrome tail peace. the old tires were used and one of them had a huge bubble in it:( they ride nice on the road and handle rly nice off road. there is alot more to tell but all for now hope yall enjoy my build
  19. i got some new tow hooks and they will go where the factory ones go on the front bumper. y no hooks? and y are straps so much better then cable?
  20. last time i went out off roading my cable broke. i was stuck up past the tires and the guy who pulled me out snapped me and snapped my cable. ive been using now the cable i was using is only rated for about 2lbs. so i returned the cable to lowes with a made up story of why it snaped my bad lol but now that I'm back on the road i work like to know what is the best for recovery? i can go to tractor supply and get 20 ft of cable rated at like 15000 pounds and some hard core hooks for around 40 bucks. should i stick with cable or should i go with straps? thanks a bunch Brandon
