Thanks for the confirmation guys; was beginning to think I was just venting in the wind. Coming from 20 years on a 37' sailboat (hence, Pago Cruiser), all wiring was Anchor tinned copper (except 4/0 for the windlass was welding cable), terminals were tinned copper, and all joints were both crimped and soldered. Anything over 8awg was also heatshrinked. Never had one wiring corrosion problem in that very harsh environment. Cannot say the same about aluminum cable stays. It took about 5 years for my semi-rigid aluminum cable stays (I had used dozens of these, all different sizes) to turn to aluminum dust. See pic. Note that there was never water IN the boat. All the water came from humidity in the air, over time. For anybody interested, it happens like this: 2Al + 3H20 ---> 3H2 + Al203 Aluminum + water = hydrogen + aluminum oxide. Yes, hydrogen is a product of this reaction. But even though hydrogen has a lower flammability limit of about 4%, the reaction process time is usually measured in years so that level is never (AFAIK) reached. Although the pressure from the freed hydrogen can result in separation of the insulation from the conductor, providing even more pathways for more H20 ingress and faster Al203 production. Caveat emptor, once again. Sigh. Rant over.

So I purchased some car stereo stuff a few weeks ago, and started opening the boxes this weekend. One thing I thought would save some time on was a packaged install kit for the amp - it included 8awg red amp wire, 8awg ground wire, RCA wires, fuse holder, and some other hardware. Great; save me the time of purchasing each item. As I opened the box, I thought... this sure seems light. Thought the wire would weigh more.... The dang 8awg wire turns out to be aluminum! Not CCA (another bad idea) but actual aluminum, with micro thin, hair like strands. Have not installed a stereo in probably 20 years; so when did this start? Called around this afternoon, and my friendly NAPA has copper 8awg on a spool: "How much do you want?" So tomorrow I will lose another 2 hours going into town to replace this... failed exercise in " how cheap can we make this"... The engineer in me thinks this is a terrible idea. I feel like I am living in a Dilbert cartoon panel, with his boss always coming up with these hair-brained ideas that sound great, but ignore reality... Connecting copper or plated connectors to aluminum wire with a third metal (solder) is literally going to be a corrosion factory. I guess I could always use a positap connection at each end, to transition to a short copper wire to solder on connectors; but this seems nuts. Why would I want to add even more connectors (every connector is a potential failure point) in my wiring? Grrrrrr.

Dang! That dog can jump! Assuming the dog is about 2' tall, and the tires are about 5', that's 2.5X his (or her) height. Assuming you are about 6', that would be like you jumping 15' up to the level of a 2nd floor of a bldg. Cute dog.

Project “Tomahawk”

First, dang you do good work! Speaking of front bumpers.... "... the warrior gen 1 brush guard bumper which is the closest thing I could find in the aftermarket that resembles the original brush guard and seems to have a nice “period correct” design." Is the attached pic what you are referring to? I like this style as well; clean & functional. It also comes with the bumper reinforcement kit according to the tech guy at the factory. Although I do wish the headlight ears were a slightly larger diameter. That said, they sure are proud of em... I'm thinking of eventually flat towing the Comanche behind an RV; asked the Warrior tech guy if his D-Rings would be suitable attachment points for a Tow Bar; he indicated this should not be a problem. -

No problem. Have no clue as to why left and right side are different? -

91 MJ Long Bed with Stoker in TX

Good catch; duh. I stopped looking at the pic when I saw the text with the Stroker... -
After trolling CL and FB Marketplace for longer than I would like to admit looking for a decent set of 16x8 MOABS, I finally gave up and bought the best local set I could find. Which seemed to have been owned by rock abusers, and needed some repairs. Sigh. "Wish I could have found something in good shape", I distinctly remember thinking, after getting an estimate of $500-$600 from the wheel repair place for welding repairs and painting... one rim actually looked some guy used an air chisel to break the bead... So then Gjeep must have cosmically sensed my lament... Not sure how he collected these, but they have inventory stickers from Warren MI, and Newton NC. 30 years of being bounced (figuratively speaking...) around warehouses...pretty incredible. Thanks Gjeep! Proving once again, be careful what you wish for... Next up: "Wish I could find a low miles mild-build 4.0 Stroker that will run on regular "...

Ebay - NOS MOAB 16x8 5x4.5
pago cruiser replied to pago cruiser's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Thanks for the info guys. Guess that would make sense about the casting number being the same for all (future) finishes. So unless you happen to have the box the wheel was shipped in, there is no way to determine the factory finish - except by inspection. Anybody know how many factory finishes there were/are? on the 2003 era Moabs? I think I am up to three: Polished, clearcoat Painted, no clearcoat Painted metalflake-ish, clearcoat. -
Ebay - NOS MOAB 16x8 5x4.5
pago cruiser replied to pago cruiser's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Since there's some wheel guys on here.... and since I started the post... a couple questions: The Ebay listing has a part # 5HP23TRMAB, and is described as polished and clear-coated. Jewelry, indeed. I picked up a beater set cheap a couple weeks ago, and the part # is the same 5HP23TRMAB. These appears painted, with some aluminum "sparkly" (almost metallic looking) , and then clear coated, 'cause some of the clear coat is yellowing. My local wheel repair place said they can "de-curb" and re-paint for about $100 each. I have seen another set for sale lately, and asked the seller to provide me with a pic of the part #; same # - 5HP23TRMAB; except he said they are painted, without clearcoat. I have not yet seen these. So; I had assumed that the part # cast into the wheel was representative of the factory finish? Obviously not? Maybe? Can anybody shed some light on this? 1st pic - ebay - polished, clearcoat. 2nd pic - painted, no clearcoat. 3rd pic - painted metalflake-ish then clearcoat. -

12.4 is mighty impressive! In Moto-land, the difference between an "owner" and a pro is easily half a second. Not sure if that is directly relational to cars though... I think the saying is "you can go as fast as your checkbook will allow". What is that lining on the tunnel? Looks like a radiant barrier? Or is it something the track required? Again, kudos on superb build. -
2018 - CURRENT WRANGLER JL SEATS AND TOPS - auto parts - by owner -... (craigslist.org) Jeep Dealership in Phoenix has a lot of late model Wrangler take off stuff. No 16" wheels - I already asked... But lots of new 17's, many with 0 miles tires! Ask for Nathan - 480-463-3423 Wish I could think of an application for a couple dozen Wrangler back seats... Maybe get three sets, bolt 'em in the bed of the Comanche, and go on safari???
