  1. Thanks Desert Rat: much appreciated. I had to give him a number yesterday, so I used 150#. Still waiting on the seller to provide a few interior pics before I pull the trigger. In case anybody else is interested in shipping info, I found an LTL shipper who will ship this in an enclosed container for about $1.50/mile. For the 400-mile trip about $600. I actually tried a moving company first. For a dedicated box truck and driver for the 400-mile trip (+ return) they quoted $5000! Plus a minimum of 2 hours for unloading, at $60/hour...
  2. Anybody know? Found one that I am trying to get a shipping quote for. I'm guessing 100-200 lbs, but they need the weight to within 10 lbs...
  3. Problem is - and I believe this was the gent's problem in the pic indicated, the aftermarket tanks just come with a hole. Like this: A factory plug would be an ideal solution.
  4. Thread resurrection time... Can anyone advise as how they patched the factory hole for the sensor that the MJ does not have? Did a search - several actually. Seems this topic is just... not discussed. I found this pic on another site: while ...apparently functional, is certainly looks cost effective. A coolant bottle patch, some permatex, and (2) sheet metal screws. Kudos to the OP for putting this out there, but... I would think there is a more conventional way to patch this hole? Maybe with some similar material (as the tank) and a "special glue", or ??? that is designed to melt the pieces together? TIA.
  5. Did a search, and while there were more than a few threads about mice damage, none that I could find discussed means of repair. Just got my new purchase 91 Comanche home after a 750 mile road trip on Friday. Have not yet done a formal intro - will get to that... soon. Saturday am I was replacing the water pump (It actually failed in the driveway!) and noticed some mouse damage on the injector wiring. &*^$#! I would usually apply a new wrap of heatshrink - but this would require removing the damaged wire from the connector. I hate dealing with these connectors, as I have not had a high success rate over the years. Is there another means to repair that will be long lasting? Electrical tape is good for days. "Paint" some of that liquid rubber that is used for tool handle dipping? Cut heatshrink, wrap it around the exposed copper, and then secure it with sticky foil tape? What would be great is a split tube patch, that is wrapped around the exposed copper wire, and then ... heated to make it a waterproof and flexible repair. For those old enough to remember, similar to the old-school bicycle tube patch. I have not seen anything like this, but it would appear perfect solution. Extra points if it includes encapsulated arsenic in the patch to minimize future mouse incursions.
  6. I posted a reply after, but for some reason it is now gone. Maybe the mods think I rambled on too much... Short and sweet, the Red Queen from Ebay has a new home! Spent 14 hours today driving her 750 miles, through Parker AZ at mid-afternoon where it was 110F, keeping up with 75MPH traffic with the AC on high. Fun stuff! Keeping with the thread title, he was at $28k earlier (as recommended by his "Agent"), lowered it to $18k recently on ebay. I got it for a bit less than his current asking; and there were (2) offers behind mine. He also sold it to me directly, although it was listed through the Agent. Oddly enough (at least to me) this particular Agent charges a flat rate fee up front, so it is not conditional upon a % cut of the sale price. That "direct from private seller" enabled me to not have to pay sales tax here in AZ. If it was through a dealer, AZ nicks you an additional 9%! Ouch! For comparison, there are a pair on ebay at $14k and $22K, nicely bracketing mine. There are also some current ads that look great on Auto Trader - although they are all from east of the Mississippi, so corrosion would need to be looked at closely. Those range from $15k to $25k asking. Note that there is ...apparently... some room in their prices. The nice white one in PA ($18900, although only 2WD) was my next choice; they offered to eat the $2k shipping to Tucson; but by then I was flying to Fresno... So. Y'all are welcome for me supporting the rise in prices of sold Comanche's... Unrelated question: Where do noobs post intros? On several other sites I am on, many have a dedicated thread; but all I can find here is the one for starting a new project. Maybe that's it? Apologize if I missed it.
  7. Well .. for better or worse, she's mine. Test went good, but like any 30 year old, she has developed some...issues. Steering column has 0.375" wobble. Driver's door hinge is wonky; only opens half way. And what almost squirreled the deal... has a ...little bit...of knock. Dang. But upon closer listening and looking at the invaluable links on this site I am 90% certain it is the flex plate bolts. Sitting here in Porterville having the trans fluids changed and flex plate/bolts looked. If it is the bolts and this fixes it, I'm off back to Tucson tomorrow. If it does not fix it, then I am still off tomorrow, and will deal with big end bearings once I get her home. If anybody ever needs a Jeep tranny looked at here in Porterville, I literally stumbled into Wilson's Tranny and 4WD. Donny is knowledgeable, helpful, fit me in today, and they have a lot of really cool projects about the place in various stages of progress.
  8. Gents, Thanks much or the comments, suggestions, and offers! Sincerely appreciated. Found a cherry 91 just outside Fresno a few days ago; heading out tomorrow via AA to check it out. If it's clean as the pics look, and we reach agreement on price...will be driving it back to Tucson. This would be after I head to NAPA pre-road trip and get some radiator hoses, coolant, fuses, and a few other spares... 700 miles across the desert in July in a new-to-me truck that has only been driven 1000 (local) miles in the last 2 years; what could possibly go wrong. At least he has the factory Shop Manuals; may give me something to peruse as I am waiting for the AAA Tow Truck. Wish me luck. FWIW, as of today there are several new Comanche listings on ebay, in case anybody else was interested. Oh, and +1 on SearchTempest. Really handy for both CL and FBMP.
  9. Classy - saw that as well a couple days ago. Looks pretty good; but manual tranny. After several years with our 98 Wrongler (since sold) she refuses to drive a stick any more. Pete. I stand corrected; thanks. Only the 91-92 has the 190HP I6. Actually found more than a few that looked really good; especially the blue one in Riverside CA; but manual tranny. Then spent some time on this and other forums, coming to the conclusion that it would take between $4-6k to swap to an auto, and a lot more time and effort that I have available...
  10. Basically, looking for a 90-92, I6, auto, buckets, good paint (white or light; black or dark colors really suck in the desert), good condition. Miles are almost irrelevant; but bonus points if the engine has been gone through... Restomod or original, as long as it's a driver; not OPP (other peoples projects). At 67yo, I'm getting too old to be changing engines & trannys and other major mechanical. But other stuff is ok; except body and paint. I hate that stuff. I have found exactly 3 west of the mississippi like I am looking for, between $15 and $18k! Several east of the mississippi, all between $18k to $25k!! Heck for about just a little more this starts to look reasonable: (EDIT: this thing looks like it needs a big sign on the door: "Made by TONKA". Would also more than likely suck at carrying 4x8 sheets of plywood and drywall).
  11. motownXJDad - took a wild guess, but Detroit and immediate surrounding do not seem to have any MJs listed on CL. If you can, would appreciate the location or link. Unless it violates a rule, I would be glad to pay a finders fee if a tip leads to a purchase. That said, i have pretty much scoured all the usual sources in the western states, under the premise that most vehicles I have looked at east of the mississippi seem to have a lot of orange and brown particles on the bottom... But for about the same price as a beater MJ, this just popped up on Tucson CL, about an hour ago. Probably not much for creature comforts, but I would bet that it has a 2 ton payload.
  12. Been looking to get a later model MJ with a I6, auto, buckets, hopefully in good overall condition. Probably 90% of what I have found on ebay/Auto Trader, and Facebook Market Place seem to be beaters, from $3k to $15k. The other 10% seem to be a lot closer to what I am looking for, mostly sold by dealers, from $15k to $25k. This seems... crazy. Is this reality now? Or are these few dealers just throwing these crazy prices out there and hoping someone will bite? Seems like trying to find a 90-91 in good condition with the I6 and auto has become a unicorn hunt... TIA.
