  1. Lurking around at others' builds for ideas, stumbled upon this gem. From 87Warriers Comanche Build, circa 2011... Thanks 87! Have attached his photo so it can be associated with the thread title.
  2. Fantastic! I had several exchanges with them a couple weeks ago; the guy I communicated with did expect them to be remade, but he did not know if it would be this year or next. I asked if they were keeping a waiting list. The round-about answer was that "If you "watch" the item on Ebay, then you will be notified when in stock. Ebay will not allow us to use a waiting list." So I "watched" the item. And I have not (as of 5 minutes ago) received a "watched item" reminder or update. That said, when I went to the item in my "watchlist" (I currently have a few dozen items in there), it does show up as "buy it now". Unless I was on this site, I would still not know. But I did just order a pair. Thanks for posting this!
  3. Thanks gents. Good to know there is access to the floating reinforcement plate within the B Pillar - have not pulled off the trim yet. While this does not seem common in MJ's or Cherokees, is appears common in Blazer Land. I have been thinking of changing doors to a later model XJ in order to get full size windows and door trim to match the later XJ dash (which allows a double din radio/GPS Map install). As the striker has to be changed for that to happen, that would seem to be a good time to deal with this metal fail as well. Which reminds me to get the strikers as well as the doors when collecting parts. Pics of how some Blazer guys deal with this.
  4. Resurrecting another old thread... Have been looking for a Brush Guard for a bit; found one that might be useful for someone... (8) Marketplace - Steel bumper for Jeep Cherokee XJ | Facebook OK Facebook. Listed 20 weeks ago. Don't know why it hasn't sold... If you have a 3" lift but really only want 2", this might do it.
  5. Seems a strange way to advertise for a SoCal based fish taco chain...
  6. I have seen several photos of the door hinge frame member failing; and have actually ordered a reinforcement plate, as both of mine are. Though I have not seen any threads on the door jamb latch side material fail. Any elegant solutions, other than welding on thicker material (that would still allow the door to close) and buggering up my paint?
  7. Thanks Gents!
  8. Timely post and informative reply. As a 91 HO owner for a couple months here in Tucson AZ, we are in the middle of our monsoon. Every Saturday am for the last month I have been using a shop vac to suck out the water. I am guessing the PO covered/blocked the holes when he applied the bedliner. This should be in that master list. Could anyone kindly provide some reference pics of where these are in relation to the bed walls? TIA
  9. Awesome! Looks like it fits good up against the cab as well.
  10. Spoke again to Brian (not Robert as I indicated earlier) at Borgeson. He suggested Summit or others to obtain their stuff. They do NOT offer any other ratios than the 12.7, which equates to 3.175 turns lock to lock. So. Borgeson purchased Saginaw, along with their production equipment. Borgeson ONLY offers the "stock" 3.175 turns gearing, lock to lock. Others (like Red Head) offer alternate gearing, both 2.5 and 4 turns. Brian's comments were that they must have found another source for these alternate gearsets. So unless Red Head (and others) are mixing and matching (used) gearsets from customers Cores, it may be that some of the gearsets within Reman Boxes may actually be new.
  11. Just received the Borgeson info and sent onto EagleScout 526. Also just did a check on the Red-Head site for their steering boxes - they seem to have a pretty good reputation. Looked up part numbers for the MJ, the 93-98 ZJ, and the 82-04 S-10. As Minutit indicated, all the same part number, with the exact same options! Options being either standard (3 turn) or quick turn (2.5) or rock crawler (4 turn) gearset. I may just bite the bullet and be the first on my block... 12. Fascinating. I just called Robert at Borgeson back, and he indeed was not aware of the S10 compatibility. Asked him to send me tech specs and dims. He did say that it was entirely possible, but thought that that if the majority of specs and bolt pattern were identical, the other item might be connecting to the stock steering column length; but that would probably not be a deal breaker, as the "later" model collapsible shafts might take up the difference. Funny that when we were talking about the change from the "Impaler design" to the collapsible shafts, I actually remembered when that occurred in high school. One of the better things that the NHTSA implemented. Lots less impalement deaths since then... When I receive Borgeson's data I will try to get ahold of EagleScout526 and see if he can get any factory spec data to compare.
  13. Thread resurrection time again... Just got off the phone with Borgesen - they do NOT make a 88-92 Comanche, nor a 84-01 Cherokee, nor 93-98 Grand Cherokee (ZJ) new steering boxes. Nor do they manufacture replacement gearsets if you wanted to rebuild your own. Nor do they have any current plans to do so. It would appear that all this generation Comanches and Cherokees are pretty much stuck with whatever gearsets are out in the wild right now, in either JY or Reman options. In Remans, we just have to trust the vendor QC process to discard gearsets that are beyond spec. And cross your fingers...maybe. Bummer.
  14. Thanks for the detailed responses gentlemen. Back to the OP... A Cherokee Bumper will not - from what I have read - fit "directly". That said, depending upon your weld and fab skillsets - or your buddies - almost anything can be modified to fit. But it would be a lot of work. Better would be specific MJ Bumpers. Some I have looked at online: Dirtbound: Manta Ray Rear Bumper - Jeep Comanche MJ - DirtBound Offroad Uphill Manfg: MJ Comanche Rear Bumper 1986-1992 – Uphill MFG Affordable Offroad: Jeep Comanche MJ Rear Bumper - Affordable Offroad All of these pretty much use the stock bumper mounting holes in the frame, with their own connecting hardware/brackets.
  15. Guess I should rephrase the question: does the Fey Westin bumper - with integral ball mount - come with reinforcements to tie it to structural frame members more robustly than the stock bumper with ball mount? I can't tell from the pics provided on the site. The stock bumper is extended/cantilevered behind the main hollow frame members about 12", with a maybe 3" tapered u-channel with side plate for reinforcement and connection just above the shackle mounts.
  16. Just looked at their site: I cannot tell if it comes with a frame reinforced receiver hitch, or if it is like the stock bumper, and just bolted to the frame ends?
  17. OK. Scratch the receiver hitch - thanks Pete. Also just found a thread indicating the stock XJ springs are same as the MJ - scratch that. And... maybe not the Track bar - or the front sway; scratch those. Though I swear I saw a thread where XJ front suspension was transported to an MJ - but have found 4 links now indicating they are the same. So maybe my... missing link was just replacing like for like.
  18. Could anyone provide a list of potential upgrade components that could be obtained from a 99 4 DR Cherokee 4.0 to be fit onto a 91 4.0 HO? I have seen multiple threads discussing various components, but I may have access to a parts car, and would like to get whatever would be of use. Things so far: The doors - or the full window panels/hardware. Mirrors. Coolant Tank. Brake Booster. Master Cylinder. Intake Manifold - although too late, as someone else got to the entire engine. Front Clip - also too late, as is was wrecked from the front. Distributor - also too late. Interior Heater core Seats Trac bar? Sway bar? Front Coils? Rear Leafs? Hitch assembly What am I missing?
  19. NOS 94 cylinder head cover. I'm afraid to take it out of the box.
  20. Cool! Suggest to bring some 1x1 lumber stock - maybe 18" length - with the C-Clamps. Helps spread the load applied to the Topper base.
  21. If you are thinking about hiring a shipper for that Topper... I just went thru this - and decided hiring a commercial shipper would save me 2 days of time, 800 miles of round trip travel, $400 in fuel costs, $100 to rent a trailer (the GEM Topper is 61.5" width, and my trailer is 60"), and one night in a hotel. Call it $600 in direct cost, and two days of my time. AA shipping (they are a nationwide "broker") quoted me $600 for an enclosed transport. They quoted me $400 just strapped onto a trailer... but if you have seen commercial shippers work, they are... not the most considerate to the items they are shipping. Their go-to answer is always "strap 'er down a little tighter"; not the best outcome for a fiberglass/aluminum/glass relatively fragile, awkward shape. Sent them a 50% deposit, and waited. Summarizing: After a week, I had to call them: "Can we send just strapped to a trailer". No. Another few days: "We will call the seller soon." OK, when? No answer. Another few days: "I am going on vacation, another guy will be contacting you soon." OK, when? No answer. Another week: "Found a driver, but he can only take it to Phoenix (about 300 miles of our 400 mile one-way agreement), for the same price. Is that OK? If not, we will have to cancel.". Seriously??? Fine; lets just get this over with. Cost me an additional $400 to rent a U-Haul enclosed truck (decided not to put the miles on my Jeep Liberty tow vehicle), 360 miles of seat time, and $270 in gas, plus a full day of my time. From what the driver said, the "Brokers" make the deal with you, then they try and find an actual driver. The Broker charges half, and the driver gets half for actually doing the work. My recommendation is to do it yourself... no matter what the initial cost/benefit looks like.
  22. Buy it for the Recaro's get a free V8 CJ5! Posted 2 days ago. This won't last long. Central AZ. 1966 Jeep CJ 5 - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale (craigslist.org) "OLDICON" - I may steal that and make a logo for the tailgate.
  23. Love those train/air horns! Not sure about that location though; but still probably preferred over mounting to the Cab top. IMO, the site needs an air horn thread...
  24. 1989 Jeep Comanche | eBay Asking a top tier price - looks superb - but with a salvage title. I've bought late model salvage title vehicles before - for about half of market value - with the intent to drive it as a commuter for 200,000 miles (or until it dies) then give it away on CL. We are on our 2nd commuter car doing this. Sure is pretty though.
  25. At least not if obtained from CA Auto. Good for folks who don't have the wiring or indicator light and are just adding the reservoir to free up room in the engine compartment. And not to big a problem if someone is replacing theirs; most folks can get a appropriate hole saw pretty easy. Sounds like a win-win to me! I took a pic at about the same angle as yours; no hole... I found a hole plug variety pack on Amazon - for $12, I get several different sizes for other uses as well. This was after my local OReillys and NAPA could only ...maybe, they thought... find something if I could give them a year and make and model of car. It is really irritating to try and buy local, but oftentimes you. just. can't.
