  2. Well the camshaft arrived so I buttoned up the 4.0 short block and now wait for the next project. Ran into an overheating issue the other day coming home from work and the 2.5l barely made it to the driveway. I'm guessing head gasket, but its not worth chasing down now. Got Scuzzy into the garage and that's about it until I bring home a running/driving 97-01 XJ donor. Nothing else major. -Replaced the courtesy lights with the aftermarket, thanks to @kabowabo for the write up. They work great! -I sold the 94 Cherokee I bought last summer as that was a hot mess of electrical rats nest.
  3. Good points about not really needing a stand for my 4.0 I think my project scope is changing a little here. Wife rolled her eyes tonight when I said I need a running/driving donor vehicle instead of the parts Jeep currently in the driveway. When she rolls her eyes, I take that as a hesitant yes lol who needs money anyways...
  4. In the process of building one. I have another engine build that will definitely need to be run on a stand before going into my Torino
  5. Concern is doing too much at once. Converting the Comanche from its current state of Renix 2wd 4cyl to OBD1 4wd 6cyl, and sorting out the various bugs along the way. With a fresh rebuild I want it to start and quickly get it up to RPM for proper break-in. Don't want to mess with cranking and finding a no spark/fuel/sensor failure condition. Another build I'm working on is a Ford 351c which will be comparatively easy to fire up on the test stand. Figure since the test stand will be available, might as well put it to use. I hate finding leaks later. Or I could just be over-thinking it.
  6. I've poked around the internet about using a test stand to break in a Jeep 4.0, but not sure how to go about doing it. But my google-fu could be weak on this subject. Any pointers/advice/solutions?
  7. Yup! Currently 67 degrees outside! Perfect Camshaft for the 4.0 is still on backorder so everything is in a holding pattern until it arrives. No news otherwise, Scuzzy still carrying out his daily duties with no complaints.
  8. ...or modify/fabricate your existing brackets to fit a Gladiator rear bumper

    Minitrucks

There are a few for sale near me at a farm & feed store. Interesting little things. My wife feels claustrophobic enough in the Comanche, I would never get her in one of these
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndl6J3m7UpA Reminds me of this...
  11. Once i pull my motor I plan on cleaning up the engine bay in my 89. Code is PWB white. Does anyone know of a rattle can (Rustoleum/Duplicolor/SEM) color that is a good match for this?
  12. Funny this topic comes up now. I messaged someone about an ATV for sale on FB market last night, and no response. Then I looked at the comments to the ad and there are 20+ replies. Looks like a bunch of teenagers are just taunting the seller and making sarcastic remarks about both the price and the item for sale. They even replied with memes. WTF? Makes it hard for someone like me with good intentions to break through the noise and try to get the guys attention. I gave up and moved on.
  13. holy cow this is an awesome thread. SO cool your whole family is involved in racing.
  14. Not much to report lately. Hot as balls here in the south this summer, so without working A/C Scuzzy spent the last few months in the garage. I did manage to get a spare 4.0 and just brought it home from the machine shop yesterday. Ready for some cooler weather and a 4.0/4wd/OBD1 swap.

My wife has a Ruger SR22 ceracoated in purple. With a silencer. She says its nice because she can shoot home intruders without scaring the cats.

    New Jeep Teaser?

    40" tall tires?
  18. Made a simple solution for practical storage behind the seats. The exact dimensions can vary based on whether you have a bench or buckets and a console or not. I made the base from 1/4" plywood. Then framed it with 1x2. Applied wood glue, clamped it all together, and hammered in some trim nails. The legs underneath have a slight angle cut to match the floor angle and keep the storage tray level. I stained it with a single coat of Minwax Classic Gray 271 to match my interior. Made some L shaped brackets from scrap metal which holds it to the floor. Great place to throw stuff and keep it from being lost under the back of the seats.
  19. Both seats are done, shampooed clean, and bolted in one last time! The camera angle makes them look kind of weird in the picture but they are actually really nice. To help prevent losing junk behind the seats, I made a little storage area out of some plywood and framed it with 1"x2". Stained it to match the interior color and really happy how it came out. Next up, restore the center console and make a cupholder that works.
  20. I could never get comfy in the bench seat. So I go down to the local Pick-n-Pull in search of a pair of seats. Wandering around, I eventually come across a 2012 Ford Fusion. Charcoal color seats in good shape, and the drivers side is power with manual lumbar. Get them home, remove the airbag/load sensing wiring nonsense, and get to work. One thing I learned a long time ago, always start with the hard side first (usually the drivers side.) Ended up clearancing the trans tunnel to make room for the inboard seat rail. Not bad, but the sheet metal is like 20g in that area, so it required some delicate TIG welding. I widened the 4 factory mounting bolts for rigidity and fashioned up the seat bracing and legs from 1" square stock. Once its in, its a tight fit, I literally have 1/8" clearance from the notched trans tunnel between the 4wd shift level underneath, and on the interior side 1/8" to the seat slider when its all the way forward (to gain access behind the seat.) Cleaned it all up and applied a coat of Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator. Bonus is with the wider front legs, my 1st aid kit fit under the front seat now. Oh, and yes a factory console fits! Now on to the passengers side, which 'should' be much easier since it isn't power and the trans tunnel isn't as wide there. Currently the seatbelt is mounted to the side of the seat but it look a little high, so after looking at it I think I'll drop it down and bolt it to the factory hole in the trans tunnel. But man, they are 1000% more comfortable than the bench. If anyone wants the bench, its free. I'll post it in the classified section.
  21. This is awesome!

    The Army

I 1000% support your decision to join the Army! Its funny, when I first told my parents I wanted to be an Army Ranger, my mom was all worried and wanted me to do something safe and with 'valuable job skills' I could use when i get out. I replied with "if I want to do the same thing in the Army as I could here in town, why join the military?" They were there at the (Ranger graduation ceremony) and were beaming from ear to ear with pride. I'll never forget that. I retired from the Army not too long ago. A hair over 22 years total with multiple trips around the globe as 11B (infantry) and then 12A (engineer officer.) Not a day goes by where I don't spontaneously chuckle to myself thinking of things I've done/seen. It will change you as a person. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. I recommend doing the delayed enlistment program where you sign up for example, today, but don't report to basic for several months...that way you have time (and motivation) to get ready both physically and mentally. Better to show up in shape than be one of the guys struggling from day 1. Feel free to PM me if you want!

    Whats in your cab

1st aid kit, jumper cables, a towel, and an Element Fire Extinguisher I do need to inventory the toolbag behind the seat, I think its lacking anything important.
  24. I'm half english half-scottish, but no kilts for me. However, I am currently watching the Outlander series on Netflix.
  25. Man I hate a thief. I had a transmission stolen when I lived in a different state a long time ago and that still annoys me. Now we have security cameras all around and get notified on our phones when noise or movement is detected, or if a camera goes offline. Google Nest; pretty neat service, it even specifies on the popup notification what was detected (person, dog barking, people talking.) A bonus is our neighbor across the street is nosey, we have a dog who loves to bark, my wife works from home, and we are well armed.
