'89 MJ-Work truck/DD to DD and 4 wheeling whenever!
Zenobian_84 replied to Stacks's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Wouldn't hurt to have a few pictures of it on hand. You can PM with a link to 'em if you want. I might look into getting myself a topper like yours one of these days. That spare roof rack on top would be mighty useful... -

That is one good looking front bumper. I really like how it wraps around to the fender flares, gives it more of a stock look than a lot of others I've seen. -

I know that feeling man! I was so mad when I first saw that truck got totaled. I might get a rollbar down the road, but I'll have to find someone willing to give one up first :brows: I have been seriously thinking about making my own Dorothy though.... :brows:  :wrench: -
1986 MJ 2.5L 4x4 | "Heavy Four"
Zenobian_84 replied to 87Warrior's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I know that feeling all too well. Only a matter of time until this thing is driveable. By the way, how's that fabric dye holding up? Looks real slick for those of us cursed with the "Medium Blue" interior and are thinking of making it go away. :brows: -
Just read through your thread again. This truck makes me all kinds of jealous! Fantastic work so far, man. :clapping:

Halfway done with the passenger side. Still have a bit of work to do. Been delayed due to the weather. :fs1: On a sort-of related note; I remember being asked by a friend a few years ago, "What makes you want to do the things you do?" I didn't really think much of it at the time but I remembered it today. So I spent some time thinking on it, and a lot of it stems from when I was a kid. Saw Twister for the first time when I was 6; and it left a huge impression on me, not only the movie as a whole, but this scene in particular. lzYXUVmt9So After I saw it, I took an immediate interest in the weather; cars; and other things. Ever since I was little, I never thought I'd own that "Cool old yellow Jeep pickup" I saw in that movie. Well, I don't own that one, but what I have now is more than good enough for me. Guess it shows you that you never know what life is going to give you, or what direction you'll take. Sometimes you just have to get in, buckle up, and go for a ride. :chillin: -
That's a real 'beut you got there. I remember when I sanded / painted mine, I looked exactly like you did :clapping: Also, that air freshener seems familiar somehow.... ;)

Weight Amounts - Engines
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So it's probably safe to assume that a 2.5 with transmission and accessories is just shy of 650 lbs most likely? Also, on an unrelated note, is your icon from an anime, or from a very detailed drawing? I've been wondering that for the longest time now... -
I'm thinking of possibly getting another 2.5 engine down the road to tinker with / disassemble to add things to my own. How much does a fully dressed 2.5 weigh? And by "fully dressed" I mean, a complete block w/out a tranny, with full options on the motor (a/c components etc.)? Just want to get a rough estimate to see if I can just use my MJ to go pick it up. I read on a post a while back that it weighs close to 800 lbs, but I can't remember if that's with or w/out the tranny; is that right? On a related note, if I were to pick up a 4.0, how much does that weigh in at? Same conditions as the 2.5.

Funny that you mention that. Almost every LKQ down here I've been to has a strict NO ELECTRIC TOOLS policy. Must be a southern thing... and it can be quite a nuisance sometimes.... :fs1: :wall:

Example of a finished Door VIN decal. ------ NOTE ----- Also, it seems there's a bit of confusion. Gotten a few PMs from members about wanting a few different decals shipped off to them for $. I just wanted to let everyone know that I do not physically make these decals. I merely bridge the gap and offer a .jpg file for the users here to download, and take to a graphics shop to have made up. If I had the resources to make them myself, I would; but sadly, that's not possible right now. :( But hey, free stuff is still good, right? ------ On a related note, if anyone wants a specific graphic that I have not posted up made for them, shoot me a PM with info on what it is (whether it be Door VIN or otherwise; Door VINs will be a PM thing, as I do not want to have 70 posts of them up here in the thread.) and I'll see what I can do. Remember, this is just a hobby I do in my spare time, so if I don't immediately get back to you for a while, don't take it the wrong way.

Buy or pass? Driveline question...
Zenobian_84 replied to rnobles's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree, in theory i should be able to find one in that price range, but around here i have not had any luck. i currently have 3.55s with the A904 3spd auto tranny.....its sad. lol i would prefer a 4.0 doner rig but have accepted that my 86 causes a few headaches with that swap and will be fine with the 2.5, just for simplicity. At this point i will take what i can get. the going rate around here seems to be in the 1000-2000 range for anything that runs....IF you can find one. I feel your pain. There is no such thing as a "Cheap Jeep" down here. Even for the most clapped out pieces of crap, people still want upwards of $900 and absolutely refuse to budge any lower. Either that, or they charge arms and legs when they part them out. :fs1: I'm all for staying on the look until I find a deal, but when it gets down to it, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and throw down some $. -
Will do. Will be hitting a few P&Ps with a buddy of mine in a week or so. I'll post up here if I find anything that's a match. ;)

Always wear black shirts to a car show. Heat doesn't bother me. When you live your whole life in FL, you get used to the heat. :chillin:

95 here with 65% humidity. Ain't nothin' down here. :dunno: I do envy you guys with A/C in your trucks sometimes though. If I forget to roll the windows down in the morning, my @$$ / back pays for it. :shake: Gotta love that leather interior.

Hmm... a la this style then?
-
Thanks for the ideas Rob. :brows: Changed the design on the back. Am probably going to go with this one instead. Something about it just feels better.... :brows: Will post up pictures of the shirt whenever I get it made.

Just fooling around with some ideas for a t-shirt to wear to the shows I attend with the MJ. In my own personal opinion, I think the "Toughest 4 Letter Word on Wheels" doesn't strike deep enough for a suitable slogan. So, I decided to go with an old one AMC used back in the mid 70's. I'm surprised they only used it for a year or so. Anyway, the front will look like that; with the size of the picture varying on the actual shirt. I might mess with the back design a bit more down the line. Good enough for right now though, I suppose. :chillin:

Cool, thanks.

Are the floor shifter mini consoles for 2WD Manuals differently dimensioned than with 4x4? If not, can I just remove the 2WD empty shifter "door" and replace it with a 4x4 bezel? Don't know if it's because I just awoke from being up for over 27 hours; but I can't seem to recall right now.

:fs1: Dang. Too bad they were exactly what I've been looking for. If only they were smaller. Thanks guys.
-
Surfing around CL for ideas of what to get as a next rim, and I stumbled upon this. Guy says they are "15x10, 5 lug, 4.5 spacing" and will fit a Jeep etc. Also, note the type of tires on the rim. :brows: Question I have is, will they fit on an MJ? Aren't most of the stock Jeep rims 15x6/7s? Can someone school me real quick on rims? IE: What the 15x10 (example) rating means; and how it affects the tire size you can go up to without adding lift to your vehicle? If these do fit, and I can mount my 235/75/15s on 'em without any rubbing issues, I'll be pretty darn happy.

Progress for today; a few spots here and there to re-sand and touch up / fix. Have to get ready to go to work in a few hours. Should be able to finish the driver's side tomorrow afternoon and spend the following 2 days doing the other side. :D :brows: -

Figured that I'm probably going to remove the Laredo badges and instead just add the tornado where the badges used to be. Getting back to basics now; also, last thread name change. I swear. No more false advertising :shake: :rotfl2:
