  1. Looks bent: This is why I think 'he' dropped it:
  2. I picked this bike up from a seller on CL, $150, no title, condition unknown. The guy said he bought a bike, and they gave him another one for parts, but the other never broke, so this bike was never touched. There are no disconnected wires, no leaks, nothing that seems missing. I suspect, add a battery and away I go. Almost. It needs a new title, I can get on form the county seat for $70, that just involves time. I need my MC licence, and should take the safety course. I have the gist of how the bike works, but I will need practice. There are a few things I need to address, I need a right hand mirror, a long fuel line, a bettery, and I would like to get a new handle bar, as it looks like it may have been dropped, although not while moving. The right side is just slightly bent. Any way, does anyone have a site for the exact spec, performance reviews, and user reviews? I have looked at http://www.motorcycle.com/forum/honda/, http://www.topix.com/forum/motorcycles/honda real quick, but nothing definitive cam up, just basic maintainence stuff. BTW, this will be my 1st bike. Here's pics:
  3. No one knows? I have this question posted on 5 forums, and I cannot believe some of the stuff I have seen built, yet no one know this wire configuration.
  4. Well, I just tested all the wires in every combo possible, and every time it said the voltage was 12.8. How exactly am I supposed to do this? Even with the black and red leads switched, 12.8. Also, nothing turned on when I made contact, and the starter did not engage when I went from red to green. The only thing I disconnected was these 2 harnesses and something should have been making some noise.
  5. OK, so red on the bottom, orange on top, and black/ground in the middle? Like this?:
  6. https://www.facebook.com/SargentPsycho Throw your username in there so I know who it is! :hmm:
  7. Look guys, I get what you are saying, and I will replace the column eventually. But I need this running RIGHT NOW. Or else I don't make the money to get that new steering column. Just replacing the cylinder won't work either, this thing is fawked, which is why I want to move the ignition to the dash, so the only thing I am using on the steering is the wheel itself. This is what I am working with:
  8. Ok, I think that this is what I am supposed to do:
  9. I crawled under the dash, and based on this info, I found 2 harness plugs that I think are the right ones. The one has a dark green (starter I'm told), brown, and yellow wire: The other one has a large red (power), a large orange (run), small purple, gray and black/white wires: So, what do I cut to put on a different switch? What DON'T I cut and leave in that plug? And where do I put them on the switches I have? Switch #1: has 3 poles, top, middle, bottom, switch only has 2 positions. Switch #2: has 2 poles, switch returns to starting position.
  10. I live in NY. Replacing the column is not something I want to do. The ignition is the only problem, and I will deal with having the switches (way cooler than keys, IMHO), and even if someone wanted to steal it, they couldn't get the thing going anyways. I have the only MJ that I have seen around me (rural area), and it's the only green spray painted VEHICLE I have seen around here, and anyone who see's it knows it's mine. I don't let them forget. :D Thanks for the offer, but I am just going to throw switches on there. That said, I still need which wires to splice into.
  11. Searched, found nothing on specifics of what I want to do. So, since I got my Comanche, there never was an ignition key. The lock had been busted out, and all there is is a tab that I use plier to grab. Othere than that it was turning and starting just fine. The other day I was driving around, and when I got where I was going and went to turn the truck off, I found I couldn't turn the igniton back to 'off'. It was stuck in the 'on' position. I said, ok, decided to really ream on it, still didn't budge. So my truck was stuck 'on'. I ran around like that till noon or so, and once I got my truck in the driveway, that's when I tried to stop it. Ended up yanking the distributor wire, stopping the engine. So, no my truck is in my garage, dead until I can fix the ignition. What I want to do is catch the wires before they go up the steering column, and splice in 2 switches. One will be an 'off/run' 2 position switch, the other will be for the starter. That switch you can push up, and it returns to 'off' position when you let go, perfect for the starter. So, the big question is, which wires do I snip and splice? I know how to do the work, just need the right wires. Push button start, baby, oh yeah!
  12. Yes, it is. I pulled all the fuses and cleaned it up the best I could, it looks a lot better than before. Brand new fuses, and I may have even gained my radio, clock, and cigar lighter back.
  13. Welp, I got a bunch of new fuses, pulled the old ones out and they disintegrated when I did so. I see what is meant when you are told about the clutch fluid leaking. I got a new serpentine belt, a new ground wire (battery to the block), and a new airfilter. I need to find out why there is a half quart of oil in the bottom of my air box, I will not put the new filter in until I know why. The old one is soaked in oil.
  14. Please elaborate. I think the dent gives my truck character, but getting it out would be nice too. Put on my CC decal last night. I think it looks pretty good. It is in the top right corner of the windshield. Well I am changing out almost all the fuses today. They were all MUSH except for 2. Most all of them broke when I pulled them out.
  15. I was painting the whole thing, and remembering this thread, figured I'd paint them up real quick. BTW, the Krylon does get scratched, but I hose it down, rubbing with a sponge and whatever paint comes off, it comes off. Then I hit the whole truck up with about a can of paint, and it looks brand new. Almost every new person who see's my truck is like "Awesome". I got the "I didn't know there was a Jeep truck!' the other day. A lot of Vets have stopped me and asked it it was a legit military vehicle. I honestly see some fire in their eyes when I am talking to them, like they are remembering the Jeep that saved their @$$ in WW2 or Nam'.
  16. Ok, replace the bushing and bearings. I got my brakes done 6,000 miles ago, while the mech was in there he checked the bearings, AT THE TIME he said they were OK. Now could definitely be different. It doesn't look like anything was done to this truck beyond basic services. If I get the adjustable TB, could I adjust it to stock height, then ADJUST it when it goes up? Also, for the ZJ swap, do I snag everything off the ZJ at the JY and just swap it on? Or do I need some custom adjustment done to make it fit? The only thing that confuses me if this talk of control arms. On a 2wd Comanche? Aren't we dealing with a straight, non-powered axle? Anyways, I had thought that the wobbling MIGHT be the wheel bearings. I will have those replaced. I saw the write up on the steering column fix, but I have this habit of not being able to get stuff together after I take it apart , I am not sure if I want to tackle that by myself, or even at all. Why can't I have just a straight pipe?
  17. Parked it. :(
  18. :help: I have an 88' MJ 2wd 4.0 with the puge-o-crap tranny. It has 206,050 miles on it. I have had it for 6,000. The steering sucks. It's loose, and it seems like the tires are pointing outward. If I got faster than 45mph, the passenger side feels like its bouncing up and down pretty violently. If I slow down, it stops. The steering column is loose, and I have found that to be the 4 screws that come loose. Also in that area, my turn signals quit working today, the dash lights don't come on anymore (recently quit), the e-brake won't stay engaged/hard to engage. It is hard to put it in 1st gear sometimes, like something is blocking it, or the syncros aren't lining up. If I roll the truck a little, it'll pop in gear. There may be looseness in the steering bars, I have to get the front end in the air and take a look, but nothing moves with the wheels on the ground. Ocassionaly the electrical system trips out, I think that is due to a bad ground wire. If I move the wire and try to start it again, it might click off, or fire right up. I'd like to get a new steering column, as I have to use pliers to start it :D and I have to have something metal to make the horn contact. My ring works nicely  I would be willing to wire up a 3 way switch to start it. Push button start is nice. The wiper motor is also shot. Might as well throw some bastard pack springs to pick it up, if I need new front shocks and springs. If anyone can decipher the above, please help, I don't want my truck to sit. I need it. Money isn't a problem, I will get what I need to. :smart: Also, when your ignition stops turning with the truck running, DO NOT use a pair of channel locks to pull off the distributor wire. It hurts.
  19. :hijack: WHEN QUOTING CL ADS, COPY AND PASTE THE AD IN TO CC. ONCE THE CL AD IS MORE THAN A MONTH OLD, OR IT GETS FLAGGED, YOUR POST IS USELESS. :hijack:
  20. Neither the article nor the new caster mentioned the truck being a Comanche. Maybe they couldnt figure out what it was!
  21. You mean to tell me I have $150 sitting in my cabinet? 3 sets?
  22. As has been said before, copy and paste the ad, now that it is flagged, your thread is useless. :clapping:
  23. I would think it would.
  24. Got the new muffler in the mail today!
