  1. There is an 88 Comanche in a junkyard close by. No wheels, frame is shot (what frame:brows:) It is mostly still there, and otherwise looks awesome. Interior is clean, all buttons and dials are there, the factory radio, leather typedoor panels, engine has 89,xxx, but its a 4 banger. Probably the Peugeot tranny. 2wd. I took the antenna, cabin lights, the Comanche badges, and a can't-be-found-anywhere-on-earth wiper relay!!! My truck now has an antenna and a relay. But I think the motor is shot. If anyone needs any parts, I will be glad to grab them and ship them out. Like I said, paint is pristine, and the tail gate, hood, doors, its all there. Shipping will be from NY.
  2. The only reason I am opposed to a Dana 30 front, or a different transfer case, is I have the axles already, and I have a Dana 300. The only thing 'new' I would have to buy would be the lift, the tranny, driveshafts, and all the assorted nuts, bolts, bushings, etc, etc. Also, I am not making a rockcrawler. Trail use mainly, with some bouncing through the bush. I want it capable, but not over the top. I could use 33's as well. If I did that, would I be able to get back down to the 4.5" of lift? The reason I have those numbers in mind, 6", 4.5", that is what Hell Creek suspension has available for this truck, and the price difference is about $500. Ah, yes. Lockers as well. I think with all this combined it would be very capable off-road.

    My Comanche

Just thought I would share some awesome pics of my stock Comanche. Place is call Woodchuck Hill. A long dirt road that comes out in a rock 'bowl', kids like to party there and light camp fires, but there is a [ath going upand around. I prked my truck up top and took some poser pics.
  4. I have a 1988 Comanche, 4.0, B/A 10, 2WD, Dana 35 in the rear. It's got 21X,XXX miles on the body, engine, and tranny. I would like this: Beefed up 4.0 AX-15 Dana 300 Dana 44 in front Ford 9" in rear 34" or 35" Super Swampers or similar tires run of the mill D-window rims Other mods: rattle can paint job some fog lights bumpers front and rear some interior stuff that just needs fixed Points I need adressed: How much lift do I need for these 35"s? I would like to get away with 4" to 4.5" of lift. I don't want it sky high in the air. What do I need to make these axles work, i.e., springs in the back, shocks and coils up front. Any kind of plates? What size springs? If I can find them off an old Chevy or something, that woulds be kosher. Will the 4.0 work with the AX-15? The AX-15 with a Dana 300? I know I will have to get drive shafts made, and yokes and pinions and such. Opinions and input please.
  5. eh, just read it. :dunno: I guess all I can do is try. Wonder if getting a brand need column would be easier.
  6. My steering column is loose. Not the whole thing, just from the adjustment point directly behind the wheel. From that point down into the firewall is solid. But from the pivot point to the steering wheel is what moves. There is slack in it so it kind of hangs down about 2" form center. In fact, it will move in all directions as well. I didn't notice it getting progressively worse, I just noticed it loose one day. I have looked and felt around, there does not seem to be anything loose, or adjustable, with out taking anything apart. Any ideas?
  7. It can't be too hard to make one of these, can it? You could probably make it even beefier.
  8. I found a $#!&ty brown colored one around here the other day, and I found one that sits behind 2 cars, parked in a driveway for 2 years now. Still, I will bet money I use mine WAY more than all the rest of them.
  9. uh, I just pushed the pedal a few times, and they stiffened right up.
  10. My girlfriend has a 2004 Liberty. I would be swapping parts like no tomorrow. The amber lights in the front bumper, the flares, the brushed aluminum bezels, the grill, even the center console is completely different, that one is way better.
  11. Hows that axle swap working for you?
  12. Left it at home. I can't lock it
  13. They realize they own the only Comanche in 50 miles?
  14. Axle swap I want done before winter, I want 4 wheel drive for winter. My problem was the caliper bolts, I thought they were frozen. I took them to a guy, he only charged $45 to do it, and I sat right there and watched him. So, I know know what to do, and he also didn't mess anything up. He knew what he was doing, and blew right through it. I consider $45 to learn how to do them from now on a good deal. Now that I got those rotors replaced, the truck feels like it is brand new. No more shake in the front end, before any speed above 55 was scary. I think I can hit 70 now. Next will be everything for the ignition and fuel systems, I think that will bring back my power that was missing. Then I save for the axle swap, I already have the axles. Just need the hardware.
  15. LOL Because the passenger rotor looks like a fawking record!
  16. 2wd sorry. I called Advance and they sold me the wrong part. Guy said they are the same price, he will have them there for me in the afternoon. I would get the good $#!&, but I have a Dana 44 front and 9" read that will be installed soon. I'll have to get new brakes all over again. The problem here is the shop. If I bring in rotors, shop has knowledge of what kind they are, and knowing this, try to upsell me by $67 a rotor. "Thats what they do", ah quit it. I worked customer service, I know the guy will say no, even if I ask nice. If you want to sell, get something closely priced to the item he brought in. If he bought the cheapies, he did so for a reason. He isnt going to buy yours just because now he's in your shop.
  17. I bought rotors and pads for the front axle on my 88 Comanche. I took them to a place to get installed and they told me I had the wrong parts. These are the ones Advance Auto Parts gave me. The rotors that the shop wants me to buy are $100 a piece. I call bull$#!&. The rotors are not made of gold. So does anyone have the exact specs for the brake rotors and pads? The shop said the rotors for 2wd and 4wd are different. I don't believe it. Thoughts?? Before I plop $100 apiece for these? I am not going to, but these can't be too far off from the right ones....
  18. Very. I bought a full set of Allen keys, standard. Don't fit. Going back to buy the other sizes. Do they make these bolts with a regular head on them? I hate these kind. But what if the teeth are ground down? How do I get them out? New calipers are $20 apiece, I am going to spring for those. But what to do about the damn bolts? edit: I looked at the metric Allen wrenches and they pack did not include a 7MM. So I bout a T-45 and a T-47 torx, I thought that might work. They didn't. From what I can see, if I use a saw to cut the bolts, and remove the studs, the new calipers will bolt right on.
  19. well I went to Autozone and got a 7mm hex socket, but it isn't fitting. The socket feels like it is just rounding out the bolt. Wrst case scenario, what do I do to just get the bolt out? Am I able to cut them, and remove the caliper that way? I know i would need new bolts after that. I don't know how to go about this. Any thoughts? Could I need a 6mm hex socket?
  20. OH YEAH!!! duh me. 1988 Jeep Comanche, 4.0 peugeuot Ba-10/5
  21. I need to know the size of the bolts that hold the brake calipers on the front axle. I tried all the allen keys I have, and none work. I need to know so I can go to the auto store at crack @$$ in the morning. Thanks!
  22. Well, I didn't want to clutter up the forum but I will do what I have to do. :help:
  23. I'm in Jamestown, I might be willing to drive out there for pics. It is about 2 hours away.
  24. Does anyone know the size of the bolts holding the front brake calipers on? I need to puts new brakes on, as the old ones are SHOT. All of my Allen keys do not fit, I will have to buy a new one. Again, what size are these bolts?
