Sorry, no can do. Google App Inventor only works with Android phones. Also, I refuse to develop any iPhone/iPod/iPad apps as long as Apple has such draconian rules with their app market. The Android Market is much more open to developers.
-
I like the code decoder idea. As far as the craigslist search, there are several craigslist alert apps out there which are very easy to setup. Personally I use Craigsnotifica, and love it.
-
So, I took the VIN Decoder idea and ran with it... Here's the results so far. Far from finished, but this will give you an idea of the UI design.

I like the VIN decoder idea. It may be a great starting point.

Not a bad idea, but there's already one of the Android Market for $1.00, with great reviews. No pun intended, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel. Looking for ideas for apps which aren't out there, especially Comanche Club exclusives.

Just out of curiosity, who here uses an Android phone? I recently gained access to "Google App Inventor", and I'm looking for ideas to turn into applications. So....if there's some sort of special Comanche Club phone application that you would all be interested in... Please let me know. Any Comanche Club app I create will be 100% FREE. Also, depending on what kind of an app people request, I may be looking for volunteers to take pictures, etc. Ideas so far (will update as people respond): 1) Mobile MJ Troubleshooting/How-to Guide 2) Trail "mapper" program for all you off-roaders 3) Tire Size Calculator (There's one on Android Market already for $1.00, anyone use it?) 4) MJ VIN Decoder - In Progress!!!! 5) Comanche Spotters guide (for packages and years) 6) AX15/Ba10-5 Spotter 7) Clinometer (The little thing that will tell you the pitch and roll of your truck.) (Canadian Nissan Truck club has one) 8) Parts references (XJ/YJ/TJ crossing) 9) App that would map out member locations 10) DIY Guides 11) OBD-I flash code to meaning decoder - In Progress!!!! Apps to checkout (not mine): 1) Craigsnotifica - Craigslist alert app, 100% Free 2) aCar - Paid or Free(Ad supported) version, allows you to track vehicle maintenance costs and gas mileage.

Arerodynamics
beepbeepmyredjeep replied to Worlds Fastest Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A word of caution with regards to the "Aerojeep". Your design resembles that of an airplane wing. You could actually create "lift" with this design at higher speeds. See http://www.allstar.fiu.edu/aero/experiment1.htm You could possibly reduce fuel efficiency at higher speeds due to less traction. Worst case scenario, you could possibly lose control of the truck due to the front wheels coming off the ground. This *MIGHT* be ok for normal highway driving ~65 MPH. However, it would DEFINITELY not recommend it for LSR-3. -

By the way, once I get the MJ back up and running again (still working on the CMC) I could possibly perform some tests with and without my bed cap. That should help I would think. -

I wonder if a Jeep 2500 conversion would help with aerodynamics a little? Or maybe at least try to add the front of an early model ZJ? -
rear bumper tire carrier
beepbeepmyredjeep replied to johnj92131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm considering installing one of these on my factory bumper... http://www.harborfreight.com/5000-lb-ca ... 67158.html Then adding one of these... http://www.autopartsdealer.com/reese_hi ... 624-p.html Only downside is, I'll have to remove the spare to open the tailgate. BUT, I don't haul very often with my MJ anymore. -

beepbeepmyredjeep replied to dave92cherokee's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
What's the idea here Dave, crew-cab Comanche? If I can make a suggestion, shorten the bed to 4 or 5 foot. The pictures Wil Badger posted of an existing crew cab show the Comanche appears as long as a limo! I'd also be VERY cautious about taking a chopped truck that long off-road. It looks to me like it would be very easy to get stuck on a hill, or possibly bend/break the frame due to the extra spacing between the front and rear wheels. -
Hey guys, I know a lot of you go off-road with your MJ's, and I'd hate to see any of you get hurt, so I thought I should share this article with you all from CNN. "California off-road race crash kills 8" http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/08/15/califo ... hs/?hpt=T2 My thoughts and prayers go out to those hurt, and the families of those killed.

my gas...in my truck..lol
beepbeepmyredjeep replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I manage to get about 23 mpg with my MJ. However, it is a manual transmission, no power steering, no A/C, 2.5L 4 cylinder. I guess that really shows how big a difference auto trans, (I'm assuming power steering?), 4.0L 6 cylinder impacts gas mileage. -
What's this Part Time light? My 87 2.5 4 spd 2WD SporTruck without power steering only has "BRAKE", seatbelt, and the shift light.

sugar in the tank???

Oh, and the less malicious answer...Murphy's Law. You had multiple components fail at the same time. -
sugar in the tank???
beepbeepmyredjeep replied to brian's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never personally performed any malicious pranks, but I did grow up with some damn vicious guys. Sounds to me like either sugar or marbles in your gas tank. Marbles is a good one, because it causes an intermittent problem you just can't figure out...your vehicle will just randomly die when a marble clogs the fuel line....but when the suction stops, the marble sometimes moves out of the way so you can start it again. http://gwally.com/pranks/archives/000699.php Sugar won't actually ruin an engine, contrary to popular belief....But will cause damage. http://www.snopes.com/autos/grace/sugar.asp -

I've noticed in quite a few pictures of MJs with factory bumpers that the bumpers seem to sag, just like mine. Mine sags due to an accident...but this got me thinking...have that many people been rear-ended in their MJs? Are people that amazed to see a Jeep pickup that they forget to hit the brakes? Please do discuss!

My dad gave me my MJ. He bought it brand new in 1987, when I was just a little kid. I have loved that truck growing up, and I was delighted when he gave it to me once I was old enough to drive (and had learned how to drive a stick shift). I'd never give it up for the world. If it ever dies, I'll rebuild it. Dies again, I'll rebuild it again. This truck will stay with me until the day I die.

You guys make me feel a little out of place here, haha. I'm a computer security analyst/programmer.

Diagram for anyone interested. Lower grate is accessed by lifting out the upper grate. Both grates are resting on 3 bolts evenly spaced apart.

For those who have done it or seen it, how well does a roller paint job work out on a Comanche? I've got a lot of experience painting with brush and roller from my construction days. I considered doing it, but I wasn't sure how well it would look? If it looks decent, I might do that instead of trying to use spray paint, since I don't have sprayer equipment.

...and the results! YUM!

Talked with my dad tonight. He told me Shelly's actually custom built the cap. :clapping:
