  1. How much are you paying? I might have some time to build you and I one over Christmas break when I am home. IDK yet though. If I did get one made up would you come to me to get it? ( I am about 15 mins north of Big Rapids in Reed City)
  2. That looks slick, so why they two different colors of new XJ front end pieces, is the drivers fender brand new? I really think you'll like the new interior, was the speedo hookup different?
  3. I rode the inside of my rim on my old XJ all the way to the shoulder once. It shined up the inside of the aluminum nice 8) All the sudden the back dropped out from underneath me (and my then G/F) and I got it to stop. Good thing we were on a country road. I couldn't believe that had happened. Guess thats what happens when you don't torque the nuts. Anyway, I robbed a nut from every other wheel and drove the rest of the 30 miles home on ~three nuts at each wheel.
  4. Main bearings on the crank are held up under with two bolts. 4.0L has a 2 bolt main, but it doesn't make a difference cause the 4.0L is BadA$$!!!
  5. You know I don't mind saving the few hundred bucks that you have on me cause I saved on the work in the long run. I wish you all the best with this build. ;) Did you ever think about selling me that chrome front end anymore? I got a 10 slot grill on its way, now I need the surrounding strips and such. I still have that nice black front on mine that I'll trade straight up for it. Do you still want the roller rims/tires as well? I can make a trip down when I am home for Christmas if you want. TTYL, Take Care.
  6. Yah, it shouldnt cause you any trouble. I never thought of using studs on the top of the bellhousing. I put regular hex head bolts back in there anyway. One other thing of caution. If you use a floor jack to support the tranny as it is coming down off the truck, make sure you take the fan off of the engine. Tilting the whole setup down gets the fan blades mighty close to the radiator. Once you get the crossmember off, you can tilt everything down with a jack. Then you can get over top of the tranny and with alot of extentions on your ratchet you can get to the bolts near the top of the bellhousing. Just make sure you chain the whole setup to the jack before you start loosening things. They aren't the lightest things in the world and no one wants one on their chest.
  7. You can pull the shifters apart near where they go into the tranny and put a shorter one on. Thats what I did with my BA-10 shifter when I put my YJ AX-15 in. There is a square fitting they slide on and off of with some work.
  8. So you got one? How good of shape is it in? Welcome to MJhood.
  9. Looks nice. I am assuming you got your axles out of an XJ, like most of us here did when we did the convo. Thats a good find getting the 44 with 4:10s Where abouts in Wisconsin are you? I go to College at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mi.

  11. Funny story about a bumper tank I once saw. The guy used his setup on the trail and then proceeded to not unhook the unit and kept it compressing for the rest of the trip. He drove home on the highway and once he got home noticed his new "pregnant" bumper and had one of those "Oh Shi!" moments... great way to test your welding skills :rotfl2:
  12. Well, I've never had to replace mine so no I don't have a source. I would imagine that Dealerships have them for sale but I am not sure of that either. I just know it was easy to take mine out when i decided to check it over and test it when my fuel guage wasn't working after i put things all back together. On a related note, does anyone know where i can get a new O-ring for the tank? i tried an XJ one and it was too big, just by a hair. The one I have is as old as the truck and likes to slowly leak my expensive gas on the ground now.
  13. It is easy to take the sending unit out to replace the sensor. It can be done by dropping the driveshaft and then spinning the lock ring on the tank, but most people drop the tank after it has little or no gas in it. The sending unit is snaked in there so you need to be gentle taking it out of the tank. When you put things back together make sure you grease up the lock ring, it will make it much easier to put back on. Its a pretty self explanitory job once you get the lock ring off.
  14. That would be amazing! I know that my brother's YJ 4 cyl had around 115,000 and he changed his last spring. I put a new one in mine when I did my tranny swap and it had about 104,000 on it, still had a decent amount left on the disk. Some people drive them for 100,000 miles and others get much more out of them. Depends on how you treat the clutch for the most part. If they were highway miles I could see someone get 200,000 easy, but 294,000 is amazing in my opinion.
  15. Is this the truck that my door is coming off of?
  16. My dad had a T-case in his TJ that had no fluid. This made the chain loose and eventually it ground a hold through the case. Hopefully this doesnt happen to you. He had bought the TJ from a repo yard that pulled it out of a river. Evidently when they changed the fluids in the Jeep they forgot to refill the T-case and it had drove countless miles since then. After a new chain and some Tig welding we were back on the road.
  17. Yay, I've been waiting for this, its my lucky day!!!
  18. And you know that you loosen the sleeve on the drag link and adjust that to get your steering wheel to be straight if you lift it.

Ok, cool. I am really interested in anything chrome on this truck as well as the plastic trims on the bodylines. It looks like it was an "X", which would be a major selling point for this guy if he only knew it.

Anyone want to buy this for me and sell me the front end off of it. It's only $10 :brows: I'm guessing it was a 4 cyl... IDK http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-Jeep-Comanche-2-wheel-Drive-Pick-UP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34224QQihZ002QQitemZ120062059529QQrdZ1
  21. I hope you know that an industrial pressure washer, (like the ones at car washes) will work wonders on dirty and stained carpet. It is amazing what they will take out with a little degreaser and such. When I got my MJ, the PO was a mechanic and the carpet was saturated with oil and dirt on the drivers side, not any more, you can hardly see the stain left behind.
  22. Looks like someone cleaned out their spare paint cabinet on that toyota. My advise on the paint would be to first off think of what you will be doing with your comanche before you paint it. Flat paint hides scratchs a lot better than high gloss. Also dark shows more scrathes than light colors. The rest is personal opinion.
  23. Propane is a way of life..., I tell ya what.
  24. When I got my leafs new from... Rusty's!!! ... They were stiff as hell. I took the bottom leaf out of them and loaded the truck down with 500 lbs of sand. I drove it like that for a month and now I sit nice and level and only have to carry around 250lbs of sand for winter driving purposes. Taking the bottom leaf out greatly softened the spring packs.
  25. I spy a comanche!
