1987 4 cyl MJ Rough running condition
eaglescout526 replied to jeepogeek's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Kinda an idea. Have you tried the steam clean method? Something tells me that the engine may not have been serviced in a long while. -

Ok so my makeshift clutch idea kinda failed so I am doing the way another T-bird owner did it with gasket paper. Otherwise it kinda worked but it would stop catching when you would use the favorites buttons. -
More to come too. Those are gonna be wall hangers.

Have you done a TPS adjustment? If it’s out of spec it can cause some issues or it being bad can cause it to stumble and not respond well to the throttle. -

No Jeep is truly done unless you went down to your local AMC|Jeep dealer and ordered an MJ/XJ/SJ/YJ/whatever the hell else J you wanted the way you want it DONE. And just maybe, just maybe, it would be considered done. I think I swore too much. -

Alright, I replaced the clutch plate for the tuner with two discs of sand paper and it works as it should which is fantastic. Now to get a new fuse and see if the radio works. -
Lol. I am not mad, I am genuinely curious. It was listed for almost a full week, I went to buy it on Friday off ebay and it was gone. I'm surprised it didnt sell the moment it was listed.

Took out the radio and brought it home. There’s something about vacuum tube radios that I just understand. Might be just the old soul. But the tuner clutch plate has disintegrated and it needs a new one in order to tune to other stations. -

Back at it. Did some work but now I know I need a new starter, starter relay, battery cables as I melted the negative while trying to get the car to run and I probably should do an oil change. I finally got the ignition switch wired up. I think I got it wired up right, blower comes on in the run position, didn’t test ACC because I’m a dork and forgot it has that, radio kinda works. No sound comes out but the speaker does static when adjusting the volume. But it’s wired, it cranks when it should and that’s good enough for me. -
My dad did my headliner with tweed and I do love it. It reminds me of growing up and all he did after he got off work was custom interior work for mini-trucks.

A question about emblems.
eaglescout526 replied to Muncher's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That sucks. Mine came off without a hitch. -
Not sure what your issue is but that “up arrow” is your shift light indicator. It’s a fuel economy option for Renix engines with manual transmissions. It just let you know when RPMs are high enough for you to shift while keeping fuel economy in mind. The fact it comes on when it’s running rough either means the there’s something weird going on or your driving and the sensor in the transmission wants you to shift down until at a better fuel economy speed. The sensor is located on the passenger side of the trans. So if it comes on while in neutral you either have the REM plugged in or it’s shorting out.

Excellent! That’s great to know it does well on others than just plastics. -

So did you also buy the vinyl paint as well? I haven’t ever painted anything vinyl yet, so I’m curious.
