So after putting on a beefier steering setup my subtle but often wobble turned into a undrivable wobble that could start anywhere above 30mph. Toeing it in made it worse and when I toed the wheels out that sorta fixed it for some reason but it obviously can't stay like that. Regardless, after looking I'm pretty sure the whole issue is coming from not having enough camber. I think when I got my truck alligned it had 2 degrees, when shouldn't it be 4-6? The lift I got from someones cherokee only included taller springs and new lower control arms. Because of this the lower control arms always look like they are at their limit, and shouldn't be angled down as much. I would think getting a control arm drop bracket should not only help add camber, but also make the ride closer to being as smooth as its supposed to be. I guess the main reason I'm making this post is to see if anyone has a different take, or if anyone knows of a cheaper drop bracket. https://www.roughcountry.com/jeep-xj-control-arm-drop-kit-1627.html (and it should be the exact same for an MJ even though it says XJ right? Only reason I'm skeptical is because when you select MJ it says it doesn't fit)

Ok thanks

87 is the only year is was possible to get a black interior correct? And is it only black leather seats or were there also cloth or vinyl black seats?
-
Oh ok, maybe I can do it properly, I'm afraid of messing something up though.
-
I'm not too worried about it tho, Ill just fix the leak, nobody can tell its wrong unless they are comanche experts
-
Alright well I guess I'll be looking for a window next time I see an MJ, who knows how long that will be
-
Damn ok, I thought there were also 4 piece windows though?
-
I've never really seemed to notice another MJ that has the rear window stick out an inch or so like mine. I've been wondering if there are just different types or if mine has been taken off and modified. The sealant on top has mostly worn away and has left a small water leak above the window, so I think it may have been taken out at some point. Also, there is all kinds of white overspray on seals and such over the truck, so I'm sure it either got a trailer park rattle can special or was taken to Maaco at some point in its life, maybe they took the window out then.

Question about Cruise Control

The intermittent wipers would be nice, and so would having a tilt column. I'll just wait til I find a completely or mostly complete column, I'm not in a hurry -
Question about Cruise Control
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah so the idiot who tried getting the column taken apart with force before giving up at the junkyard damaged too many parts. There were too many internal parts broken and I don't have any on hand already so I returned the column for in store credit at the junkyard. I kept the rest of the cruise control parts though. I just need to find a cruise control column for the 3 spoke wheel. Any year from a gm column in a cherokee should work right? -

Oh cool, it just occurred to me tho that mine is a manual and the cherokee was an automatic. So should everything still work? Reminder that it was the same exact year as mine. -

Also, this was out of a limited trim, which had power windows and power seats. The seats were in pretty rough condition but I've never seen any that looked like these, are they in any way rare or hard to come by? -
Question about Cruise Control
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok I went and got the column, as well as the vacuum motor, the wire harness that runs to that, the bigger vacuum resevoir and its hoses, the throttle cables and the speedo cable bc it had a wire and censor going to it. The whole ecu was gone, but I found a yellow amc box just laying in the passenger floor. Sure enough it lines up with one of the connectors, and a quick search of the part number brings up an ebay listing for one calling it a cruise control box. So I'm glad I found that, hoping the rain water from the missing sunroof didnt kill it. -

That might be it, but when I bought a rotor, cap, wires and plugs they have a year warranty and it I went and got a new cap and rotor. Found out the warranty literally expires on Wednesday -

I also forgot to mention, maybe about a month ago it was down on power while driving. It seemed kinda random and sparatic, not like certain gears or rpms mattered but it was more noticeable when it happened in a taller gear. It almost felt like all the spark plugs were still firing, but at like half spark if that makes sense. And it would sorta toggle on and off sometimes within seconds other times it would be fine for 5 min. I ignored it and after some time it either went away or got worse and I just didn't notice it anymore. This never seemed to come back up and everything was fine when I parked it until the next morning when I went to fire it up. Its fixed now but if it happens again I'm gonna have to investigate more, at least I know where to start now. -

Yeah the grey cap from the junkyard fixed it right away, went right back to running fine -

Question about Cruise Control
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok, also since its a gm column, do any parts carry over from any gm trucks? Like maybe the turn signal linkage stuff -
The part on the distributor cap that touches the rotor looked burnt, and either smashed or melted. I did a little bit of playing in the mud a few nights ago and drove home (maybe 30 min on the road) with no issues. The next day I went to fire it up and it had no spark. After chasing the other parts of the ignition system I finally noticed the strange part on the cap. It also left a little black spot on the rotor but nothing bad looking. I got a new cap from the junkyard and it just had a spring loaded cylinder( might be an aftermarket cap). It fixed the issue, all I'm wondering now is what happened to the old one. The old one wasn't oem, I got it from Oreily's with the rotor, wires and plugs maybe a year ago. My only thought is it somehow got dirty and started getting hot bc of it until it burnt itself out. Any thoughts? (Black cap is burnt out one, grey is junkyard one)

Question about Cruise Control

Last two pics show the mess of wires I was talking about. Does the one plug under the CC Motor actually go into it or is that just going past it, I didn't check. -
Question about Cruise Control
Warren99 replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok, was worried about harness bc of the mess of wires under the cruise control vacuum motor thing on the firewall. Also, what about the column. I want the whole thing just bc of the tilt part, that shouldn't introduce any complicated new wire harnesses right? And lastly the plastic linkage stuff attached to the turn signal stalk was broken, someone took the steering wheel off and gave up after bending the metal plate. You can see the broken plastic inside incase the free moving stalk wasn't clear enough. Do I need to find that white plastic linkage from another renix cruise control or is that the same for every turn signal. Sorry if my questions aren't clear I hope the pictures help.
