dasbrick replied to bighause's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Move to a state where they don't care. One of the few reasons I love Michigan. :D -

I could look into that, where could I get one that I can place in a line joint, like the fuel filter? Also, whats the PSI on that? 40? -

Not the fuel pump. Not the filter (anymore). The rail is getting fuel. But the guy I go to for Jeep stuff alot said it might be bad fuel. the gas station i got it from has had bad fuel for him before. -

Went to a boneyard today that has a hefty amount of XJs, and pulled a throttle sensor off another RENIX engine. (And saw a VERY nice MJ and took the tailgate...) Replaced the sensor... it did NOT fix the problem. Do we have a picture or guide to all the vacuum hoses so i can know which to trace? -
Started today. Out of the blue. Patient: 87 MJ, 4.0L 6 Cyl Symptom: VERY throaty under load, first gear, second gear are both hard to accelerate, its bucking and coughing so bad, third and fourth better a little, but still very hard to speed up. Fifth is non existent because i can't GET THERE. Smells rich in the fuel. throttle cable moves and springs back with little trouble. Signs: rough engine is not present, or very little when in neutral. Only appears in gear. Very light gas makes it drivable, but when given a little more, roughness begins. Treatment done: Changed cap and rotor. No effect. This is a daily driver MJ. Immediate help requested.

question about painting an MJ
dasbrick replied to mjtjnj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
my xj got you beat. 10 cans of flat black spray from the department store, and a rustoleum trigger grip for 1.49 at a goodwill. WIN. -
question about painting an MJ

similar topic, but slightly off. If I am in the rust belt, and it's bad on rust (thinking bolts are too), how can I get between the bed and the cab without taking the bed off? I am leaning towards a generic Flat Black or Flat (something) anyways, spraycan/gun job. I did a decent one on my XJ. -
Wanting metal Tail light boxes? Possible group buy?
dasbrick replied to brimy311's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs

Take a picture of a 97+ 4.0 cover, and point to the parts.

Here in Michigan, we have Public Act 300. States that a volunteer firefighter en route with a POV to a emergency call is considered an authorized emergency vehicle, and is allowed to disregard posted limits within due regard for safety. So we can speed, as long as it is safely. We also need to have a light visible from 360ยบ at 500' and a siren that can reach 500'. To everyone else: OHHHHHHHHHH. ok. sacrifice speed for torque. got it. Thanks all.

Been since I got it, approx 1.5 months ago. Yes, 3.07 might be my issue but my cherokee had 3.55 and it was PSYCHO fast. granted, some was the AW4 but still, it was really fast.

So. Trying to chase down this performance issue with the MJ. 87 4.0 BA-10/5 The First and Second gear run fine, speed up fine, third gear is fine, but the fourth gear and ESPECIALLY the fifth gear just dog. Is this a fuel issue, or is this a transmission issue? I am a volunteer firefighter, and I need my speed.

I'm already planning on pulling carpet when I do my seat swap here in a couple weeks. Any recomendations on a floor pan or what grade of metal to weld in?
-
What the guy said a little up, replace everything you can. Try to go high performance when you can as well. I've had experience that the stuff goes farther then OEM. Higher tolerances.

thats cool. as long as splines match for the transfer case i could care less if the transfer case doesn't include. I hear they are light. one hand pickup. Try taking it to UPS when it's ready to go?

whenever. what i thought was a tranny issue ended ip being a bearing issue. so thats fixed. but i wouldnt mind a spare if the price is right.

Spray in bedliner suggestions.
dasbrick replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm just gonna use the one from Meijer. It's like 59.99 if i remember right. Enoguh for a full size truck bed. Should be enough for an over the rail. -
All i can tell you is that the aux fan on my Cherokee had a 190 degree activation. it would lay dormant until the engine hit 190. On the MJ, i have it wired into the ignition power, so it's always on with the engine on.
