  1. Saying goodbye can be tough, and I've never had a vehicle with the amount of history and sentimental attachment you have. I've had a fair amount of vehicles over the years. First car: 1992 Firebird that I had for about a year and a half. That was easy to sell, cause it was old and slow haha. Second car: 1999 Trans Am Firehawk that I had for about 10 years. That one was really tough to sell, and I held onto it for several years even though for the last few years I drove mostly my XJ instead. Third vehicle: 2003 Kawasaki Z1000. That was fairly easy to sell. Lots of fun times, but I wasn't really riding much after a while. Fourth vehicle: 1996 two-door XJ. My first off road vehicle, had many awesome 'froadin trips with buddies. I got it as an off road learning vehicle, and learn I did. A couple years into ownership, I paid off my student loans and decided to move on to something a bit more reliable and nicer to DD, which leads me to: Fifth vehicle: 2010 Tacoma. My most expensive vehicle at the time, it was nice, fun, practical, comfortable. Basically the perfect vehicle. But of course it was so perfect and practical that it was boring , so I sold it and got a: Sixth vehicle: 2008 Corvette. Man... what a car. I don't think I need to explain why I loved this one haha. I sold it a few months ago since we were going to try to get a house, and I was gonna use the money for a down payment. Well, the house plan didn't pan out, so now I'm houseless and 'Vetteless haha. Seventh vehicle: 1992 Comanche. I always liked Comanches and had considered them a couple times over the years, but never found the right one. I'd still check the local craigslist periodically just to see what was out there, even though I had no plans to buy one. However, this Comanche showed up and I had to have it. Fortunately it all played out, and here I am. So I've seen my fair share of cars come and go, and my life circumstances have changed many times over that vehicle history. I have mixed feelings about selling vehicles. Of all those cars, I think I miss the Corvette the most, even though it was one of the easiest to let go of at the time (since I had such grand plans for that money....). But now I regret selling it quite a bit. I'm now in a position where I still want to get a house some day, so I'm investing that money instead of buying another corvette. (Well, most of it, some it I'm gonna use to buy my brother's ZX10R). In my current circumstance, my Firehawk would be perfect: a cheap vehicle with a V8. So in retrospect I wish I would've kept it, but without knowing the future it didn't make sense to have that AND a Corvette. Money has been a somewhat limiting factor for me, but more than anything it's been space. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment in LA (and I'm lucky that I have a single car garage), and my dad's driveway can only hold so many of my vehicles haha. So while I would've loved to just keep collecting vehicles, space is one luxury I don't have. One thing I have learned though: you'll make great memories no matter what vehicle you have. I have very fond memories of all my vehicles, but for every vehicle I've sold, I've replaced it with a new one that I've also had may great memories with. Anyway, that long, rambling wall of text was all to say this: Unless you need that money to put food on the table next month, I really don't see why you should sell it. Based on the pics, it looks like you have no shortage of space to store it, and it doesn't really hurt anything to keep it. If I had the chance to buy back a few of my old vehicles I definitely would.
  2. I want to clean up / refresh my front bumper, and will probably just remove the bumper guards, but if they do actually offer a level of protection I'll leave 'em on. Has anyone ever been in a situation where they actually prevented damage to anything else? Keep in mind I live in Los Angeles, so parking nears lots of other cars is fairly common.

    hello!

Congrats! I was watching that one on craigslist, I'm glad to see someone buy it who's going to get involved here! I'm in LA as well, hit me up if you ever want to tackle some trails or something.
  4. Anyone with excessive free time and fab skills want to make this for me? :brows: I would love just a tiny bit of extra room in the cab... so here's a Comanche with the longer 2-door XJ doors. Regular: Extended cab: Comparison of the two: Edit: After posting this I searched the forum for extended cab mods and read through the various posts about it over the years, I'm actually surprised I didn't really find any!
  5. You didn't specify which color, so I covered all the bases.
  6. Cool, can't wait to see pics. I learned how to drive manual on my old XJ, I wouldn't worry too much about messing up the transmission while you learn.
  7. I love it! Firebirds have been in my family for years: 1. Mom had a '73 Firebird 2. Dad had a '77 Trans Am (That my uncle now has) 3. They had an '01 Firebird when I was around 11 or 12 years old 4. My first car was '92 Firebird 5. My second car was a '99 Firehawk I still daydream about resto-modding a third gen some day, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for 'em. Awesome car, man! It's nice to see someone else who appreciates them.
  8. It will easily do all those things you wanted it to, but in my opinion, you should only get a Comanche because you're an enthusiast and want a Comanche, not just because you want a truck. They're rare trucks, which is a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing in that you have a unique, capable, just plain cool truck! But it's a curse in that because they're so rare and unique, things you may take for granted on some vehicles would be a hassle on this. Take tail lights for example: a quick eBay scan shows that replacement tail lights for a Ford Ranger are in the $30-40 range, whereas finding a mint pair of Comanche tail lights can be several hundred dollars. The aftermarket support for Comanche specific parts is pretty small. Basically, they're amazing trucks, but due to their rarity, they can require a little bit more time, research, and money than your typical Ranger, S10, etc. Take all this with a grain of salt, I've only been a Comanche owner for a few months (but I have owned plenty of other vehicles to compare it to). Maybe others can chime in with the long-term aspects of ownership.
  9. That's a real marketing strategy! But yeah, makes sense, the ad was a bit sketchy, to say the least.
  10. First up is this low mileage one, nothing super special about it other than it being clean and low mileage, but the price is... steep haha. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/6081757743.html Second is, unless I'm mistaken, one of the 100 "Street Comanches" for $18k! https://sandiego.craigslist.org/ssd/cto/6081169222.html Backup links in case they go down: http://www.craigslistadsaver.com/view.php?name=MJ1 http://www.craigslistadsaver.com/view.php?name=MJ2
  11. I just love the fact that this exists, and that FCA is just throwing tons of horsepower at everything they can these days! I considered getting a first-gen SRT8 Grand Cherokee in the past. Like you said, an SRT8 Jeep Pickup would be amazing! I've always wondered why no Wranglers are offered with a Hemi. The Brute is the closest we have for now.
  12. Cool, I'll look into that. I haven't had a Jeep in over 2 years and a 4x4 in general in over a year, and all of my friends have since sold theirs and gone with either econoboxes or sports cars. So maybe it's time to expand my social circle and get back into the off-roading world.
  13. Cool, yep, the plan right now is for 31s (with WJ LCAs  ). I'm just gonna leave everything else alone for the time being, and drive it for a while to see what I really end up doing with it. As much as I like to think of myself as an off-roader, the reality is that I just don't have all that much time for 'froadin, nor do I have a group of friends to go with anymore. So this will likely, for the time being, just be a DD + campin' mobile for a while, so I don't need a lift and gears + lockers (for now...)
  14. I believe the AMC Eagle also had selectable four wheel drive! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Eagle Also I just happened to see one of those 4x4 Tercel wagons on Sunday, and I made a comment to my wife about how while it's a vehicle I wouldn't own personally, I love seeing rare, interesting vehicles like that!
  15. Just cause it's how I would have ordered it from the factory doesn't mean I don't still want to mod it haha. This truck is going to be a mix of DD (with an 8 mile round trip commute, so not too far) as well as a weekend toy for camping / light-medium trails / desert. My old XJ had a 31s on 3.07 gears, I didn't mind it. I don't need a speed demon (my other car more than takes care of that), however I do want it to be functional and not a dog on the trails. Regearing isn't out of the question. I do want to put in a locker eventually, as I've had multiple times (in my admittedly not super extensive off-roading time) where I've needed it. In my old 2010 TRD Off-Road Tacoma the rear locker saved me a time or two, and my open diff XJ there were several times I couldn't make obstacles on my own. I think just a lunchbox locker would be enough for me, though. Anyway, the point is that if I'm going to put in a locker, I may as well just get re-gear at the same time. I'm still debating between 31s and 33s. I always thought my old XJ would have looked perfect with 33s, but that does require quite a bit more of the build. I can't put 31s on stock rims, right? Which I don't necessarily mind, I actually prefer the look of simple black steelies, but that increased back-spacing means I'm in danger of rubbing, since I don't want to trim my fenders. One thing I haven't been able to find yet in my research around this forum and others is how much lift I need (if it's even possible) to functionally fit 33s on aftermarket wheels without trimming. Does anyone happen to have any clues or advice on this aspect? If it's simply unreasonable to expect to fit 33s without trimming on a 4-7" lift (which it totally could be, I'm still in the research phase of my build), I'll just put 31s on and be totally happy.
  16. Cool, seems your guys' mindset is exactly the same as mine. I didn't realize they weren't stock wheels... but it's no biggie since I already got a replacement set of 5-spoke Cherokee wheels that I like better anyway! And yes, I believe it has been repainted as well.
  17. Hey all, I got my MJ and created my account a couple months ago, I figured I'd finally join in and stop lurking. First of all, here's the MJ I got: 1992 Comanche Eliminator, 4.0, 4x4, 5-speed, in my favorite color, black! I'd been perusing the local craigslist for years, just to see what was out there. I wasn't planning on buying a second vehicle, but this one popped up, and I just had to have it. Every single option is exactly the way I would have ordered it from the factory! 100% perfect for me. This is my second Jeep. The first one was a '96 XJ (2 door, 4x4, 4.0). I sold that a couple years ago, but have always missed it. Anyway, I'm thrilled to be back in the Jeep world. So there's my intro, now I wanted to get your opinion on keeping this stock Comanche "pure". As it is now, it's all stock, save for a few small interior mods I've done, like a new steering wheel and shift knob. I know that this Comanche is basically a unicorn, and I don't want to "ruin" it. So I've resolved to absolutely not do any destructive mods such as hacking off fenders. At the end of the day, it's my truck and I'll do what I want, but I'd still like to get your guys' opinion on modding this thing. I'm not worried about resale value, as I don't plan on ever selling it. I like knowing that I could go back to stock (not that I'd ever want to, though). On that note, how much is too much? Would modding this thing be sacrilege in your opinion? After having it for a couple months, I'm really itching to lift it, and get better looking wheels and tires on it. Are 4-6" lift kits generally reversible? Money's not too much of an issue, I'd rather spend a bit more and do things "the right way". Basically, I'm looking to start a discussion on tastefully modding rare Comanches. Thoughts?
  18. I just got a simple cue ball knob from eBay.
