I haven't done much with it in a while. I do have a model mostly made of an XJ I was going to copy when finished and redo the rear to be an MJ. I'd like to finish it but it requires a massive amount of time to model from scratch. Really better suited for a high quality 3D scanner, which I don't have yet. I also worry some about licensing issues as I'm sure someone owns the rights to making scale models of the MJ. Greenlight makes model XJs so I wouldn't be surprised if they happen to have the MJ rights also.

CAD: XJ MJ Dash Switch Blank
Dzimm replied to Salvagedcircuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nice work on the model! I'll do some test prints on these and assuming all goes well I'll just preemptively list it so they are available to people without printers. I've actually got a few other switch parts modeled and tested in my backlog so this will be a good excuse to finish them and make those available as well. -

Anyone happen to have a Jeep with the wiring pulled out that could test fit one of these grommets? Want to be sure everything is correct on the final print.

I don't have a part number for these specifically. I think I got them from Rock Auto but almost all major retailers carry them but you'll have to order online. Its the same bump for all 84-01 XJs and MJs. You can cut it down as needed to adjust the height.

Absolutely, happy to make stuff available. Etsy is slightly better on fees but either works. Also do direct sales through personal messages here on CC if you want PayPal or Venmo. Direct sale is easier to give the CC discount.

Ask and you shall receive! 10 hole/Eliminator Center Caps

I had the passenger side mount one on my XJ console. A PO put 3 screws through the top of it to keep in place, I assume because the mounts it has don't work too well. I do make much better cupholders than the two factory/aftermarket ones available if you wanted to look at those. Link to my website is in the signature.

Ohhh yeah I see that now, read that wrong. The rear cargo light has a solution inbound.

The Euramtec A-7180 are almost exact replacements. I see they now list them as fitting the Comanche. https://www.ebay.com/itm/121059797132?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=8FBDHgF2SUG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=elkN-01sQNu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

That's just the emblem sticker that goes into the cap. I think they were talking about the plastic cap itself.

Unfortunately no one here will have open access to make parts on an injection molding machine without paying the tooling cost and machine time. The machines are just not something you can have at home like 3D printers. They are much more involved and far more expensive to operate. You can definitely find companies that do custom injection molding jobs but you have to either have enough part quantity or set pricing high enough to offset the costs of making the parts. It's a bit of a risk for someone to put up the amount of money to have that done with no guarantee of a return. For example I got a quote for 100 custom springs for a part I was working on that I could reasonably sell to someone for about $5 each, but it would have cost like $67 each to have those made for a quantity of 100. I would have had to order somewhere around 5k-10k springs to get the price low enough people would actually buy them but there is no way I could sell that many to get a return on the investment. The same goes for injection molding except the prices and quantities there are much higher than my spring example. There is just not enough of a market left to make high volume injection molding feasible for the XJ/MJ, it can only be done by setting really high prices on the parts with lower production quantities. Borderline unreasonably high pricing for most parts.

Conveniently I happen to have Eliminator wheels I could make a copy of the cap. I'm curious if the center caps for the Eliminators are the same as the non-studded ones. Would be nice if we could make one cap that fits both.

I don't currently make the window latch but it is on the list to design. I've got a decently long list of requested parts, just going to take time to make them all available. I do like the idea of 3D scanning and would be interested to see how that comes out, how high end of a scanner do you have access to? I've dabbled with some scanners and scanned files on small parts before and they rarely have come out good for an actual manufactured part. The tolerances are somewhat close but just not as good yet compared to manually modeling it. I've so far found it faster and easier to just model smaller stuff from scratch.

Sorry I forgot to follow this for the notification. You can have them both for $10 just to cover shipping. You may need to use some heat and flex them back straight, they have a slight curve to them. Pete gave them to me when he swung through a couple years ago when I was looking for the super short MJ ones. He of course showed up with options for me lol. Shoot me a PM with your address.

Key Parts making tailgate strap bumpers
Dzimm replied to fiatslug87's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Yeah it really comes down to what you prefer. There are pros and cons to either option. In my opinion the metal inside just gives an edge for the rubber to be cut on as it bends back and forth from the tailgate being opened and is why you usually see the edge of the metal sticking out of the originals right where they split open and bunch up. That metal is necessary though in a soft rubber to give it some shear strength on that hole. The ones I make are a stiffer rubber material so it doesn't need that inner metal piece to stay together and should last longer being stiffer rubber. It really just comes down to how much you want to spend and which ones you like better. Either one accomplishes the same task. -
Factory bed light pictures + measurements
Dzimm replied to Airborne Janitor's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank you for the offer. Right now I'm working on making an adapter for an aftermarket option to fit nicely on the MJ. It's on my list to investigate reproducing the original or at least a close original so I may be in contact with you in the future on borrowing an original one. -

Do you have a link to this? I could take a look at it and see what it would take to adapt it to the MJ. I'd probably use PETG to make a wedge adapter and then custom cut the gasket out of some rubber. I am really not sure how UV stable the 3D printable rubber is. -

I've actually been asked to make the gasket part for these before but don't have a factory light nor any dimensions or good photos of the light itself. I could certainly use an off the shelf reflector/lens and custom make a housing and such to match the original. Although would be much easier to just find an off the shelf cargo light and make an adapter to make it fit the MJ roof line.
