This: 4.0 Engine date codes The date code is on the passenger side of the engine, on the block, just forward and up from the distributor on a machined flat surface. The digits of the code identify:  1st Digit-The year (8 = 1998).  2nd & 3rd Digits-The month (01 - 12).  4th & 5th Digits-The engine type/fuel system/compression ratio (MX = A 4.0 Liter (242 CID) 8.7:1 compression ratio engine with a multi-point fuel injection system).  6th & 7th Digits-The day of engine build (01 - 31). 1. FOR EXAMPLE: Code * 801MX12 * identifies a 4.0 Liter (242 CID) engine with a multi-point fuel injection system, 8.7:1 compression ratio and built on January 12, 1998.

The only difference I believe between the manual and auto ECUs is some kind of idle stability differences when in gear on the autos. .

I've got 2 93 ZJs out back. I can see removing the boxes, adjusting them, and then putting them on an MJ or 2......

That's correct - my bad. I'm thinking adding 2 shims to the right side and see what happens...

If it drifts to the right, adding caster to that side will compensate for the crown in the road.

Not much difference in caster from L to R. Add 2 shims to the right?

All my parted out XJs of early vintage are now cubes of steel somewhere.

Perhaps all the mods were done in the radiator support area.....

I don't know. Not sure there is a firewall difference.

That 2001 XJ probably has a cracked head, coolant in the oil, and trashed cam bearings.......

Yes. 1.25 to 1.25. 97 hoses get rid of all that mumbo jumbo crap of the REnix hoses.

I've never seen this verified. And, my buddy put a 4.0 in his dad's 85 or 86 without massaging the firewall.......
