Lenard. I don't think of you as a smart *ss. Just a guy with a sense of humor, like me. And that's a commodity that seems in short supply at times. However I think something should be clarified at this time. Hopefully everyone will agree on these points I'm going to bring up. 1. The Comanche club is composed of gentlemen, and maybe Ladies, not sure there. What differentiates a gentleman from an uncouth slob? Not education. It's upbringing and background. When gentlemen disagree they have a debate and settle with words. When slobs disagree they punch each other out. One of the things gentlemen don't do is call another gentleman a liar. Not matter how tall the tale or how hard the story is to swallow, you do not call anyone a liar. However, it is perfectly acceptable to look one straight in the eye and say "I find that hard to believe." Jim :rotf:

Heeeyy,,We all laughed at it, got a grin out of it, So just because we doubt the veracity of why is that party poopin? Anybody familiar with electric fences knows they are pulsed, not steady and altho it's 70-80Kilovolts it's only a micro second of a micro amp.
  3. Seems to me that just working the shaft and checking for play would tell if there is excessive wear. Worn chain wouldn't cause jumping out of gear. a worn syncro, improperly adjusted or worn shift mechanism would account for that. besides, I got half a dozen 231's I'd sell for $50 guaranteed. That's $50 EACH. Not for the lot.
  4. Me thinks you made the right choice.A little duct tape, coat of primer, never know it was rusted.
  5. In 1987 I got laid up when I broadsided a 1 ton Dodge van that ran a stop sign in front of me. His insurance was prompt on the hospital, Dr settlement, $52,000 but was stalling on paying for the bike. They were offering $5K claiming it wasn't totaled and could be repaired. I was holding out for $25K. What the bike was worth to me. After a non productive meeting the adjuster was getting ready to leave when I Grabbed my neck, started moaning and said "Damn, I'm getting another one of them splitting headaches I've been getting ever since that wreck" He promptly had me sign a Waiver againest any further claims and handed over a check for $25K.

A bunch of BS, but sure fun to read. True story. I was working a green horse in the pen one day and forgot to turn off the fence. She backed into it, jumped, I went off her backwards, over the fence and into a yucca plant. A lady friend I was trying to impress witnessed the whole thing.
  8. You don't part out a rust free body. Unless it's a Ford.
  9. The Insurance Co and lawyers are there for their benefit. Not yours. Just don't let them bully you. A couple years back a outfit in Ca was making Kits to convert Toyota's to flat bed. It looked darn good. it's not all that hard to duplicate. Do a Google search and you might find it. Just find a truck with flatbed on it. You'll see there's not that much to them. Also all farm and ranch stores have flat bed parts where you can build one. Been thinking about doing one myself because they look neat. And :agree: to everything said above. Jim
  10. Considering the odds of finding one, I'd just fabricate one from scratch or modify one from another application.
  11. I'm not that familiar with the BA10 so this is a general sort of answer. Surely Pete, Don or Corry will correct and add to what I say. Place the two transmissions side by side. Compare the output shaft, diameter, length, spline count. If they're the same then the TC should bolt right up. The internals should be the same so if the output shaft don't fit then disassemble them and swap shafts. Frankly I would get a ax15
  12. The last time I come down Pikes Peak I got 762.5 MPG.
  13. When you finish putting it back together be sure and wrap duct tape around the cover so it don't leak, or fall off. :brows:
  14. I got tired of being second at the stop light drags so I swapped a WW2 F51 Mustang 1600HP engine into my 87 MJ. Now if I could just figure out why my BA10 and D35 keep taking turns crapping out on me?

I'll drink to that !
  16. '89 2.5 AX5, 4:11, 215.65R15. 21 MPG using 85. Heavy footed. Generally run 80-85. Don't go by speedometer. It's exactly 16 miles from my boony hut to the intown home. 14 mile from service sta to home. One round trip 32 miles.Fill up every second trip, 64 miles. 3 gals.
  17. WOW! And just where is it located?
  18. I know the fuel pump relay is good because I swapped it with another one. I know the fuel pump is good because it runs when I hot wire it direct. The ASD I don't know. Never heard of it. If it wasn't so cold , and dark out I'd go try it now. Just gonna have to wait till morn. But it certainly sounds plausible. Thanx Don.
  19. Both? HEHE. I didn't see his ad in wanted and came back to delete this one. Just wasn't fast enough.
  20. PM sent
  21. I have a '87 full cluster. Came with a 4.0
  22. Usually I raise the engine up, remove the motor mounts, then let the engine back down. Usually get enough clearance to get them in, and out. Never thought about studs. But sure gonna next time. Then there's always the old standby. Remove the floormats and cut two holes in the floorboard.
  23. Bypassed the relay. Ran the hot wire to the pin on the relay socket going to the pump. Nuthin.Broken wire very possible. Go out tomorrow and give it a good look.
  24. This isn't an MJ but with all the smarts here maybe someone might know. 2001 XJ got rolled, Realy totaled the sucker out. 4.0 auto, not sure of model. just that it's Chrysler. 4WD. After peeling metal away from the motor and drivers seat tried to start it. Nogo. All checks on everything under hood checks good.By running a wire direct from battery Pos to fuel pump it starts and runs. Trouble shooting hints suggest there is a emergency shut off switch which activates in case of accident and must be reset. Book says there is no emergency shut off sw. It's no biggy cause I'm parting it out but I just want to know what's going on. Any ideas? Jim :help: :dunno:
  25. 90 was Renix, and 96 was was weird screwed up year for electronics. jimoshel- I've noticed that even with all your 2.5s, none of them had an AX-4. 2.5/AX-4 combo received 3.55 gearing and was somewhat a dog on it. Granted, I think my 2.5 is on its way out... but I'm thinking of going 3.73 axle gearing and rebuilding the motor with a generous bore, and a cam if I can find one. That's true. They all have the 4:11. Just proves the ole adage, Proper GEARING gets the job done. Used to before every corner had a speed shop, you could send a cam shaft to any good machine shop and get any profile you wanted on it. Does anybody still do that? Supporter of the underdog and staunch believer in 2.5 equality
