Got a '97XJ, 2.5, 5 speed manual. 2WD Sitting in weeds so can't see the tranny to ID for sure. Anybody tell me what the transmission should be? I will be parting it out so if anybody needs any parts, let me know.

Both sides of the driveway? Or just one? My driveway is 400 feet. The MJ is 15 feet and allowing space between them to pull in and out, that's 20 feet per Jeep So 40 MJ'S using both sides with room in the middle to get in and out. Doing sumthin wrong. Can't get a pic to post.

Every thing you say is true. You just can't stop progress. However there is one thing you can say about the cars of the '50's that can't be said of the cars today. They had CLASS! How many of you can identify a fifties Ford, Buick, Henry J just by looking at them. Remove or cover up the two bits worth of chrome on todays modern cars and I'm willing to bet half the people reading this couldn't identify a Ford from a Toyota.

Did I mention gas, 19.9 cents a gallon?

Let this old fart do some reminiscing. Bought my first car when I was 14. A 1934 Chevy Master DeLuxe. 4dr.Cost me $35. Been driving a farm truck for a couple years so knew how to drive. Traded it off for a 1938 Chevy 2dr. Drove the holy piss out of that sucker for a couple months until Freddy, The local cop, caught me and made it very plain what was going to happen if he ever caught me driving it again without pates or a drivers license. Next was a 1938 Buick Century, convertable straight 8, 3 speed with overdrive. The hood on that baby was longer than most cars are today. Dual side mounts. A real chic magnet. Cost me $75 and had to call my uncle to drag it home. Seems it wasn't running at the time. Took me 3 days to figure out what was wrong and get it running. Parked it in the back yard in April, 1953 and joined the Army and went to jump school and wound up in the 11th Abn. When I went on leave for Christmas the car was gone. Nobody knew what happened to it. I have a good idea what happened but a car just isn't worth killing your little brother over. . :MJ 1: .

I get $400 for a complete, running engine with all accesories. $500 if it's a very low milelage. It will still be in the Jeep and can be started and ran.

$700. As is, where is.

Have a 1994 XJ, 4.0, 5speed, was in a front end mishap. After removing most off the sheet metal finally got the engine clear and started. RAN GREAT! After messing with it a couple days it will no longer run. Starts but just dies right away. Seems I read somewhere that there is a circuit, component that keeps the engine from running after so many starts. Some sort of anti theft device. Can't find anything in any of the manuals. Any body got any helpful ideas??

The smaller ones would be 'around' 150HP. The larger ones around 450.

Just confirmed. Truck is a 1939 Plymouth. Now to identify the engine.
-
Pete. That's a 7 cylinder radial. Two pushrods per cylinder. Notice they're off set. I'm still working on identifying it. So far it's a toss up between a early Continental or a LeRhone. The truck is a '39 or '40 Plymouth. although it may be a Dodge. They were similiar. It's either a show truck or a dragster. but certainly not a DD.

Impressive but not practical. :dunno: :hmm:

The Fiat and the Dauphine was the Italian and French versions of the Model T.

I know what you mean. If I had to pay for my lessons, I'd still be walking. Had a deal with the FBO where I would work at the airport and instead of them paying me cash I took it out in flying time.

Think I mentioned it a couple times. Since this is a Jeep forum and not aviation I never went into details on it. Also got a Ryan PT 19. Got my A&E license based on it's rebuild. And a Stinson 108-3. I like them old planes. They all had been wrecked when I got them and I rebuilt them.

Sic em hombre. :agree:

Aww gee.. Didn't think anybody noticed. 1. Just been to dern hot 2.Finally got the engine for the Stearman back together. Now just got to drop it back in the empty hole in the fuselage. 3 Just been to dern hot. 4. Got two MJ's and a XJ got to get back together. Been so long since I did anything I think I forgot how they go back together. 5. Just been too dern hot. And this coming from a guy worked a couple summers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Not even going to mention the year in Thule, Greenland.

Anyone Ever Stick Weld Sheet Metal?
jimoshel replied to nitroxsteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I watched my father-in-law weld up a couple cracks in the fenders of his Chevy drilling rig using a Hobart portable welder. Came out real nice. Looked so easy I tried it on my '38 Chevy. Ended up replacing the fender. -
Why not do it right and get a bigger truck to start with? The used truck ads are full of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. :dunno:

A 500 pound black smith anvil tied to the back bumper works.
