With that kind of luck, it's a good thing his fly wasn't open.

I charged him $50 to install that plate. Should I offer him his money back? Or just keep quiet and hope the whole thing just blows over?

The cables are to short to cross and the battery posts will not clear under the cowling if put in neg to ground. Anyway figured it out. It's the wrong battery. She was just confused. Noticed an amp gauge on the dash. Unhooked everything on the load side. Hooked a head light to it. Hooked a 12volt battery pos to the hot side of meter. Meter showed discharge so it's neg ground.

Nothing. I looked good. I can't believe it;s pos ground either, but I'd just like to know for sure.

This has absolutely nothing to do with MJ but considering the backgrounds of the people here maybe someone knows. Yesterday I bought a MTD garden tractor from the widow of my best friend. She gave me a battery she said went with it. Problem is, there is no way this battery will work unless it's a positive ground system. To the best of my knowledge +ground went out in the '50's. I could just hook it up and when the big cloud of smoke dissipates then I will know I was wrong. I really don't want to burn anything up. It's a MTD tractor with a B&S 16 HP engine. Can any body help? Jim :dunno:

You need a tank. Usually mounted in the bed of P/U or under the bed of bigger trucks. In the trunk of cars, although I did see one case where the guy removed the rear seat and put it there. Hose connecting the tank to the regulator, vaporizer, mixer under the hood. Adapter to fit the carburator or air intake to the intake manifold. A valve to shut the LPG off and on, usually built into the regulator but can be separate. For cold climates, and it helps vaporize the gas in warm climates, hook the regulator in series with the heater hose. When you turn the ign key to on, and start, it activates the solenoid turning the gas on. There is also a connector for a vacuum line. This is a safety feature so if the engine isn't running it turns the gas of. Is also used as a signal to regulate the flow of gas. There is also a switch to turn the regular gas feed on and off. There are set ups where these two switches are combined. Each state is different on their laws so you have to check your state. Since there is no road tax on LPG you need to buy a road use sticker. With this sticker you can pull into any propane sta and fill up. I never worried about that as I had a big tank in the yard and filled up from it. A Rant Propane is a clean burning fuel leaving only soot when it burns and 20-25% less emissions than gas or diesel. A properly installed set up will pass every emission law on the books. Yet instead of encouraging the use of LPG, big brother deliberately penalizes those that use it with laws and regulations. Maybe why the big oil companys are their major contributers? Also agree with Mnkyboy on the dist.

A friend of mine had a ridiculous fuel infection issue that stumped several mechanics, myself and him. He said screw it, grabbed an intake off a 4.2L that he had laying around, slapped it on and bam. It ran. Not quite as simple as I made it sound, but it can be done. Science isn't perfect. Reminded me of a time when I was in Spain. We were setting up a HF radio relay link on the top floor of some ritzy hotel in Madrid. I was having a problem with the antennas. Couldn't get one to work right. The radio operator was going ape, screaming at me because he had to make contact at 1600 with Ramstein. I'm going crazy checking all my charts, radio frequencies, ant spacing, connections etc, etc, and not getting any where. Finally at 2 minutes to 4 the guy grabs a spool of wire out of my box, fastens one end to the antenna tuner, walks over to the window and throws the spool out the window, gets on the radio and has perfect 5X5 contact. Never did live that one down, or come up with a explanation for what happened. :rotfl2: :dunno:

Ice packs don't cure anything. They just cover the pain while your flesh is rotting away. Go see a Doc.

Sometimes you don't need a reason to do something. You do it just for the heck of it.

Propane has a higher octane rating but lower BTU than gas. The one thing that hurt propane performance the most was that people just added the conversion kit but didn't change the engine to take advantage of it.

The AX15 wasn't available until 1989, mid year. Either you have a AX5 or a PO did some swapping. Sounds like you've got a nice truck.

My father in law and my granddad ran all their drilling equipment and personal vehicles on propane. When I had my highway escort service I ran 5 trucks on propane racking up over 1 million miles on them. It was great going 15k-20k between oil changes. When it became necessary to rebuild one it seemed like you could wipe out all the soot, not carbon, with a kleenex. So I am a strong proponent of the stuff. It was all carburated and not injected. Think I've just talked myself into changing a MJ over and see how it does.

First thing is check and see if a trailer connector had been wired in. That's the biggest single source of trouble. Then inspect wiring from the tail lights to the light switch to the fuse panel looking for frayed, corroded wiring. Pull the plug where the TL connect to the main harness. Use a test light and see what your getting there. I've found the biggest majority of the trouble with TL is between that connector and the TL. And don't over look the fuse panel for CMC leaking on it.

Converting a 4WD to 2WD? That's about as asinine as trading in 2, 20 year old girl friends for 1, 70 year old.

Not sure if this should be in the 'Working MJ' forum or the 'Toys' forum. Found the toys first so here it is. 1950 Wheel Horse, All original. Should have it running in a week or so. Mostly depending on finding, or making parts for it.

Anybody run any of the later Jeeps on Propane? Wondering how the sensors, ECM etc, would react to it. :hmm:

cam shaft suggestions/opinions?
jimoshel replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
All I've heard from the first day I ever picked up a wrench is to not re use or mix cams and lifters. Wear patterns. If your putting the same lifters back where they originally came from then it's OK. Guess what. I've probably re used and mixed with used lifters over a dozen cams. Never had a problem. What I did was inspect for wear, If any discard. Especially the bottom of the lifters. Make sure they're flat, no wear pattern. Then polish the heck out of them, the cam lobes and the lifters. Polishing removes any wear patterns and makes them as new. I would use the used one. :wrench: -
stereo head unit wont work.

On some models it is necessary to reset them. Owners manual should have instructions. Involves removing the face plate, locating the reset button, usually behind the front piece and accessible thru a small hole. Just push a small wire, paper clip, or ball point pen into the hole. -

V=I x R My understanding is, the voltage is constant, (12v) therefore the current is halved (hence the dim lights) and the resistance of the lights is doubled being in series. :smart: Your both right. When in series each light will only get half the voltage and current it would receive if hooked up by itself. Therefore each light will only be putting out 25% of its rated output.

Upon getting acquainted with the equine industry I have discovered a glaring discrepancy of which I hope to put an end to. Thoroughbred horses are more desirable and bring higher prices than non thorough bred horses. There are pure blooded Palominos, Appaloosas, etc, and of course the thorough bred racing horses. There are also Geldings. These Geldings are of all breeds, Palomino Geldings, Appy Geldings, Etc. I intend to put a stop to this nonsense. I intend to start a Gelding ranch and only raise thorough bred Geldings. Lacking sufficient funds to start this venture by myself I am selling stock shares to a few lucky folks and giving them a chance to get in on the ground floor with me. I plan on starting out small with one male Gelding and five female Geldings and breeding them. Depending on the number of suckers, er, investors I can find I may start out with more. So don't miss out folks. An opportunity like this only comes along once in a lifetime. Get those checks in the mail now. To you city slickers that don't know what a gelding is, ask your country cousin. Jim :huh???: :thwak:

Very doubtful. Depending on the kind and how you mount them, they might slow it do some but won't stop a leak. Plan on getting a new seal.
