And here I thought you were trying to fix your truck up and then gonna take good care of it. Dude, don't let you buddies talk you into stupid crap that can potentially tear up what you've worked hard to make nice. Its not like their gonna pay for what you break or even help you fix it. All their gonna do is laugh leaving you with a wrecked or broken truck and the expenses of repairing it. Your lucky you didn't do more damage to it. :shake: Yeah, I know the bumper was already bent but what if you had wrapped the tail gate around that tree. Bet you wouldn't be laughing about that. BTW ..... in case you haven't noticed, parts for our trucks are getting harder to find by the day. That in itself is enough reason not to senselessly destroy any.

smokey cab, where can it be coming from?
JACKED88 replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: I've had several vehicles that the cores went bad in. If you have a bad heater core, what your seeing isn't smoke. Its steam. No. When you set your climate control to heat, hot coolant/water from you engine circulates through the heater core. (a small radiator looking thing enclosed under the dash) Your fan then blows air across/through the core. With hot coolant/water going through the core, the air blown across/through it is what you feel as being warm air coming out of your vents. If your heater core has a small hole in it, your coolant/water will leak out as steam and as such come into the cab of your truck through the vents including the defrost vents. If you have anti-freeze in your radiator, the leaking anti-freeze in steam form will leave an oily residue on everything. If you had your climate control set on defrost, you will most likely have some of that residue in your defrost vents and on your windshield. If the heater core is in fact your problem, the good news is your truck isnt going to burst into flames. The bad news is, not only is replacing the core a lot of work its also a pain in the Aaaaasssss. The easiest temporary fix is to bypass your heater core by disconnecting your heater hoses and looping the system. More on that later if thats what you decide to do. If you bypass the heater core you will not have heat in your truck. Burrrrrrrrr. -
Thanks for the leak tips. As much as I'd like to have vents, I like not having leaks even more. Swishhhhhh. (that was the idea of swapping windows going down the sh-tter)

Can locking wing windows out of an XJ be installed in an MJ with fixed windows? I'm assuming it can be done reasonably easily but would like to know if there's anything to watch out for. Like the door glass falling off track or breaking when it falls to the bottom of the door. :wall:

As a kid my parents bought a new Apache pop up. I think that was in 1964 or 65. My dad liked it because he could pack all our stuff inside of it instead of the car. That and he could pull into a camp ground and have camp set up in about 5 minutes. We enjoyed used that thing for many years before some of the brackets and hinges bent and gave way. After getting married and having our own kids I bought a used Apache pop up. We used it till the kids got big enough to want their own little tents. I later traded it for a 3 wheeler. Now that the wife and I arent getting any younger, I wish I had another one to sleep in instead of in a tent on an air mattress. Nice find. I'm sure you'll get years of use out of it.

The guy who posted that could've atleast used a picture of the newer Military J8 (or whatever they're calling it), instead of blowing the dust off a 6+ year old factory teaser pic. It would be nice if he was right (offering a 2012 Jeep Truck to *celebrate* the 20th anniversary of killing them off in 92'), but if he had info like that, you'd think he'd know where to find pics of the modern (military) version they are already making. Here ya go ........ http://www.motorauthority.com/image/100 ... y-wrangler http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/04/ae ... uyers.html http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/J8.html

I'd buy an ugly @$$ Dakota or even a Tacoma or Frontier before I'd buy that. The only people that are gonna buy that truck are the same ones that buy Hummers and H-2's. A redesigned/modernized Comanche or a truck based off of the Commander, Grand Cherokee or even a Liberty would be more appealing than a glorified Wrangler with a bed. If that was their intention, they would have been better off not glorifying it as much by offering the Scrambler again. Then they could have included a newly designed Comanche. I think both would sell. Oh well, if this is what their gonna drop in us after 24 years none of this will really matter. I think they'll be short lived and discontinued due to the lack of sales never to see a Jeep truck again. What a waste of what could have been. :(

Yep, thats what my son used. Problem was he did a hurry up job resulting in poor adhesion in a few places. The newly finished product looked great but had he done it properly I'm sure it would have stuck much better.

One of my sons put some on the plastics of his ZJ. He used the rattle can version. It did OK but it is pealing in a few places. I'm pretty sure his problem is his prep work or lack there of. That and I don't think the rattle cans put a thick enough coat. I think if it was thicker it would make it harder to peal. My neighbor put Hurculiner in his truck bed but it also started pealing after a few months. There again I think his problem was improper prep and not putting it on thick enough. I think the roll on stuff sticks better than the rattle can but there again it comes down to how well the surface is prepped. Bounty Hunter is right, everything has to be scuffed real well giving the Hurculiner something to get down into and adhere to. Other than scuffed it has to be clean too. Good luck with it.

Some Backyard Wheeling....Now With working video!
JACKED88 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in The Pub
Other than the Dodge, :rotf: it looked like everybodies rigs did a nice job. I personally like the ole boys Bronco the best. I've wanted one forever but either didnt have the cash at the right time or couldnt find one when I did. Now everybody is toooo damn proud of um. $$$$$$$ Tell the :dunce: in the Dodge not to feel so bad. My son did the same thing in his Yukon. He let the right front wheel fall off in a hole and bottomed out on his bar. He didnt really like um anyway so he just took um off. L8R!!! -
Yeah, your right. Considering we spend more time under our trucks than in um, Polo's might be a little too purdy to git dirty. :rotf:

OK, but you ask for it .......... T-Shirts would be cool but do we really want a t-shirt image? :hmm: I'm thinkin spend a few extra bucks on something with a little more class like collared t's with front pockets. If no collars, definitely t's with pockets. The pocket would take care of what to put on the front simply by putting your user name there instead of on the sleeve. Below your name could be the AMC symbol in which would add a little color to the front. As for the back, ComancheClub.com using the stars and stripes truck would look great. Anything on the sleeves would be a bonus. The AMC symbol with "Jeep" would be cool on one with "Comanche" on the other. Per your request these are just ideas. I'm sure whatever you design will be awesome. I'll take at least 2 in XL.

Yeah, I was laughing my @$$ off while trying to read and make since of it. I'm thinking he's a little Asian guy with a bad lisp or stuttering impairment. :rotf: Didnt get an answer when I called. I'll try again this evening. (Hope I don't need an interpreter.) :rotfl2:

Are these rare??? I think this is the first 2 door XJ Limited I've ever seen. http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/1945542879.html I didnt know they offered the Limited package on 2 door models. I like it. Thinkin about calling the ole boy to take a look at it. Although the mileage is high, if its reasonably clean (and it looks like it might be) I might ask him if he'll trade for my 89 4 door Limited. :hmm: Wonder where the front bumper is? After doing a little research, it looks like this one even has the optional wing vents in the rear side windows. Cool.

:hijack: Whats up with that??? Tires that rub but only while turning one direction. I'm only running 33's with a 6+ inch lift and I've checked and triple checked my axle and made sure it and my steering were both centered but it still rubs the lower arm at full left lock. :dunno:

A plastic drop cloth, a cheap set of bed sheets and Crisco.

Try spraying some penetrating oil into the connection. Then put some lube of your choice (a little grease) in the connection and on the disconnect tool. Using an open end wrench slipped over the line and against the disconnect tool, lightly tap on the wrench till the tool goes all the way into the connection. The spring inside can be pretty stubborn at times and may require you to twist the disconnect tool around a little to make it open the spring and go in. Once the tool is all the way in, push inward on the line and then pull outward. With a little finesse the line should pop out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Yeah, Your pretty much screwed. It doesnt look like there's enough room to pop rivet a couple of pcs metal to hold the crack together and I highly doubt JB Weld by itself is gonna hold it. However, IF, (and thats a big IF) you can get the housing clean enough for JB to stick to it, I'd suggest making the repair stronger by putting a couple of layers of fiberglass matting over the crack. Clean the entire area, cut matting to size, apply JB, apply matting being sure to work it into the JB, add JB as needed to saturate and cover matting. (it might help the JB stick if you rough up the housing with some course sand paper) Now ...... git down on your knees and pray it stays together. :dunno: Good luck.

How rare is a factory sunroof/what are replacements
JACKED88 replied to Hick's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Three MJ's a whole hour away huh??? Dude, it takes me that long just to drive across town where all the j/y's are so an hour sounds local to me. I'd be in Manche heaven if I could find one MJ only an hour away much less three. I worked in the new car make ready dept at an AMC dealership for several years during the late 70's. Back then when those little pop up sun roofs became so popular they were a dealer option installed by an outside vendor. We'd either take the cars to them or they'd come to the dealership to do several at a time. Best bet is gonna be to measure the hole and try to find one that'll fit. How big is your hole? :rotf: Here's a 15"x30" that might work for ya. That was a popular size for small cars/trucks. http://www.jcwhitney.com/sunroof/p20019 ... id=c2634j1 -
Thanks for the info and the offer to sell me one. Yes, I would like to buy one tail gate side from you. How much do you want for it including shipping and where should I send payment? Shipping will be to U.S. zip 77450? Thanks. Robert BTW, I hope we're talking about the same part. These rubber pcs don't actually have anything to do with where the tail gate hinges. They apparently guide and or keep the tail gate support arms from rattling when the tailgate is closed. They look like a couple of notched out wedges that mate to each other when the tail gate is closed holding the support brackets in between um.
-
Or whatever you call um. Those rubber "dampers" that from what I can tell just keep the hinges from rattling. :dunno: There's a total of 4. One on each end of the tail gate and one on each end of the truck bed. I only need one. Somehow the one on the passenger side end of the tail gate got loose and has now gotten bent causing it to sometimes wedge itself between the tail gate and tail light. As a result its now cracked a small pc off the edge of the light. Gonna remove it before it does any more light damage and till I find one to replace it. Anybody know where to get a replacement? Thanks in advance.

Just when things were going good.
JACKED88 replied to Lloyd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Besides you saying you did a fuel pressure test, did you try putting some fuel directly into the throttle body? With all the electrical parts you've thrown at it and it still not run, I'd check for a fuel delivery problem regardless of what your pressure test said. Disconnect the air intake at the t/b and pour a little gas in it. Get somebody else to try to start it. If it starts, keep dribbling a little gas in it in an attempt to keep it running. If it keeps running you have a fuel delivery problem.
