  1. Steering swingers starting to take shape. Also, received the parts to finish all (14) rod ends that the front suspension and steering take.
  2. A box behind the center console wouldn’t work? Don’t have it reach all the way to the pillars, maybe only make it wide enough so that it halfway overlaps each seat? That would leave over a foot between the pillar speakers and the box.
  3. His Name was Connor Trent, he no longer owns it though. Hes pretty active on FB if you had specific questions.
  4. Had to revise the Control arm mounts for the angle of control arms, and the angle of the beams. Now that the beams are actually under the truck with the crossmember, it’s much easier to get real world dimensions instead of trying to measure thin air and draw in CAD you just hopes itll work.
  5. Got the control arm mounts started…Will be bolt on with the shock mount and adjustable caster on the radius arms.
  6. Thanks guys! Working on designing the steering as we speak, then control arms and shock mounts
  7. This post is roughly 4 years in the making. Got the TTB crossmember cut out, tacked together and mocked up. It fits wonderfully, some slight adjustments needed, but it couldnt have gone any better really. Before the I-beams were installed, I had purchased and wanted to do TTB, but I didn't have what it takes to do it back then. I put the I beams in instead, and was unhappy with them. Ive spent probably 100+ hours designing this in CAD...it looks simple but it really is not. Getting two items that have a fixed distance, rotation, and yaw squared into a chassis that is only available thru measurements and not in CAD, and then cycling those two items in a suspension cycle to make clearances. and then turning the tires each way and doing the whole process over and over again at various points. Nevertheless it pays off when the very first prototype works this well. It bolts right up, the spacing and clearances are all spot on. Have a perfectly centered track width, WMS is 65'' as factory ford intended. Cycles 8'' uptravel clean, and down travel will be limited by the U joint angles. Should net around 16-18'' usable travel with 4x4 when all said and done. Lots more to come with the design of Double swingset steering, and the control arms, shock mounts etc...
  8. You are going to sell it???
  9. Definitely do a supercharger…and a cam lol
  10. Start with shocks…on my rig, no wheel hop at all with all stock leaf’s, and shackles, just nice shocks. Thats with 35’s and plenty of power to make it hop if it was going to.
  11. Spent a lot of time this weekend racking my brain, measuring, re measuring, doubting, measuring and drawing lol. My brain is fried but I have the Crossmember about ready to try cutting for the first time. It has clearance for the axles, shafts, LS oil pan…everything seems happy in CAD. Whether that’s true in the real world we will find out this week.
  12. Just a sneak peak of the mockup stage. Lots of measuring to take place before having the crossmember plasma cut
  13. Got the knuckles loosely together, just enough to use for mock up, and got the TTB’s primed. Just waiting on ball joints to get the beams sitting in the air beneath the jeep to confirm all my measurements before sending the files to be cut next week.
  14. Been racking my brain the past few days redoing the crossmember design, for the third time lol. Each time I do it I feel there are better ways to do certain things. I also ordered up the pivot bushings, ball joints, and wheel bearings so I can start double checking dimensions before sending the crossmember files out to be cut. The crossmember is mostly entirely boxed and internally braces. It is bolt-in, but that is mostly only for locating as it will be final welded in once everything is kosher.
  15. Got started on the new front end. Have to figure out the wheel centerline, to begin fabricating the front crossmember. Lots of things to do one after another.
  16. Okay, we’re about at the point where the stripping of old stuff is complete. Both sides are cleaned up.
  17. A couple reasons, first, the new front WMS will be 65’’ instead of the previous 69’’ Second, it will now be on narrow 4x4 trails and not wide open desert, so more robust fenders will be needed. Going to go with Rusty’s new High clearance flares. Admittedly not mush of the factory fender sheet metal will be used, but is it just enough to mount those flares.
  18. So, had to pull the engine on my daily driver as it had a rocker arm come apart, and leaked from every orifice so killed a few birds at once. Got the freshened up LS3 in that. See the Denali’s build thread in my signature if you are interested in seeing that. Anyways, back to the Comanche. As it lies, the front end is floating. I am going to order up some bushings and ball joints so I can get the beam crossmember designed and made. More details to come, just want to get this post to update and show the current state of things. Separate from the TTB swap, I will likely be doing 97+ windows (if not 97+ complete doors), also removing the front Fiberglass flares and going back to factory steel with more “crawler” style steel flares.
  19. How big of a trailer is it?
  20. You could see about renting a TURO in your area, some times there are one-ton trucks to rent, but you might see they have limited mileage ranges and whatnot. I'm a little confused, you need to go to SC from TX to get your trailer to TX?
  21. Might just find an s-10 or ranger kit and make it work.
