Mainly brackets, but sliders don’t hurt to have just in case
-
It my little gauge project wrapped up for the time being. Undecided if I'm going to use all gauges, or some form of digital gauge system. But either way I’ve got the geometry nailed down on the fitment and mounting, adjusting the inside contents is easy to finish later. The white plastic is just cheap prototyping stuff.

Probably the same kit I went with from ICT. If so, the power steering pulley will be too close to the fitting on the steering gearbox. Dirty Dingo makes a smaller pulleys that works great. Also the OEM steering reservoir will need some creative mounting, I flattened the bracket and squeezed it in the same area just rotated. This photo is old and has different belt routing, but you see what I mean about the steering pulley.

I am doing a rebuild on my Comanche and have a few specific parts in mind: -3 Piece slider window (Do not want 4 piece) -Vinyl Floor without tears -Seat Brackets (may get new ones if needed) -Set of 4 or 5 Turbine rims -OEM rear bumper would be cool if you have a dent/rust free one.

Engine Cooling - Master Thread

I don't, but I'm just cheap in that sense, I'm sure some form of chemical would help even more, Maybe Vinegar or some lightweight acid. -
Engine Cooling - Master Thread
Comanche SS replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
99% of the 20+ XJ/MJ's ive owned have had much better cooling performance for less than $40... If you wash/backwash/wash the radiator, engine, and heater core (all separately/individually so you don't move contaminents) then install a new fan clutch I can almost guarantee you'll have a cool running jeep. The amount of crud that comes out with the wash and backwashing of the system is really impressive. Then the fan clutch thats likely never been replaced makes a huge radiator efficiency difference. just my 2c, I do this service on every Jeep thats comes thru my possession and it almost always makes it run cooler/properly. Edit to add: The mech fan with a proper working fan clutch or grand cherokee clutch will almost always out perform an electric fan, or two. Always run the mech fan unless you can't for some reason. -
Its too hot to be working outside, so I am thinking ahead at some of the luxury items I want to do. Starting with the gauges/ECU....I don't want to run two ECU's and two harnesses to retain the jeep gauges. So I decided if I am doing custom gauges, I want to solve a few issues with one elegant solution. here's my new music, gauges, navigation, and telemetry device all in one, thanks to an old iphone lying in a random drawer in the house lol. The only two things the ECU won't be able to give readouts on is the fuel gauge and oil pressure, hence the two smaller gauges outside the cluster. This will drop in the 97+ dash and fit like factory, thanks to a scan from @boxyjeep

Got some tailgate brackets and speaker boxes on the way from @boxyjeep Posted a handful of items in the classifieds that I won't be needing for my current projects. In the meantime, I sorted thru what I am keeping and moved it all into safe keeping for the time being...I need to finish my turbo silverado before I can begin working on the Comanche's. here’s some current photos:

The donor has finally landed at my house, I completely forgot how many unique parts I threw in the deal for my buddy. -Full Black & Gray 1998 Dash -Completely redone axles -Complete wiring harnesses from the 1998 XJ bumper to bumper -2001 XJ ECU (very important for using stock gauges) -1998+ XJ Manual pedal assembly -1998 XJ Brake booster/Master -Most of the Comanche specific interior pieces -NP242 shifter assembly I'm sure there is more that I'm missing but those are most of the cool parts. I'm probably not going to use all of it. Ill post the not needed parts for sale.

Yeah, I'm excited for the next phase. I don't have the adapter for sale any longer. @boxyjeep Already got it from me.

Alright I can give more info now that the plan is in motion. So when I started thinking of what I want to do with the Comanche to get back to enjoying it, I knew I needed to go more conventional with it, Its too radical to easily enjoy. Purpose built items arent fun when you arent doing that purpose...I figured that out the hard and expensive way lol. So anyway, I started looking for stock 98+ XJ's for axles & interior/exterior parts. Then I was kicking myself since I literally did this exact thing a little while back on the other Comanche project I began and abandoned (linked below). But it was with a close buddy of mine who bought it from me, parked it and literally didnt touch a thing from the day I sold it to him. So I offered him what he bought it off of me for and he took it! Feel free to read that old thread, but essentially, itll be used as a donor to get my OG Comanche back on the road. It has a Disc brake 8.25 29 spline rear, a D30 front, a full 98+ interior swap, a good bed, tail lights, and some misc items ill need for my OG comanche. The Donor Comanche is pretty rough, floors are toast, rockers are toast, etc...If I want to scratch my itch of cutting up and building a buggy Comanche, that would be a much better one to start with rather than my rust free CA Comanche lol. The build will entail an LS still, likely a 4L80 or 6L80, and 4x4. Still epic, just more widely usable. Lots of luxury adjustments will be made to really enjoy driving this truck like the classis that it is, Ive proven to myself I don't enjoy building it into the off road machine that it was. I want to be able to take my wife or Dad to car shows with it, or fishing, adventuring, exploring reliably and comfortably, with AC. The donor Comanche link:

Alright, its been 2 months, and I can't bring myself to take a saw to this truck anymore. I don't regret what I have built it into, but I am also not happy with it. Long story short, I think the only way I will get the most use out of this truck is to tone it back. Its so un-fun/radical, scary, and expensive to drive as it has been. Thats needs to change so I can just get back to simply enjoying the truck again. I have a plan in mind, but I don't want to divulge all the details until its more for sure and I'm actually moving forward with it. For now I am just going to drop this photo of what I think I want to go for...and work on clearing the projects out of my shop so I can prepare to get back onto the MJ. Ill pop back in to update in the next month or so when the plan hopefully starts coming together.

Dirtbound bed racks, practically new. Universal fit

I definitely noticed when I made the jump to Epic that the activity slowed. Don’t know if it’s a lack of interest in extreme builds or a lack of knowing this section exists. Lol
-
Will be parting out my truck, below is what is available and prices. Shipping will be added to prices listed. Tailgate NFS Tail lights - $200 Hanneman Fiberglass Bedsides - $500 Hanneman Fiberglass front fenders - $300 Bed carcass - free if you pickup Headliner - $150 Visors - 20ea Rear Section of frame Rails - $200 Factory Leaf Springs - $200 Bilstein Reservoir shocks - $225 Rear wiring harness - Free Leaf spring plates - $50

I can still post in her periodically, I mostly meant I will primarily be on that new thread as there is a larger crowd of those with the Full Chassis know-how and nitty gritty details there. CC is a great resource for everything Jeep/Mopar, mine will be almost nothing Jeep/Mopar any longer lol. Agreed! I just need a larger “hardcore” crowd to get this build to that next level properly
-
Alright well, noone came along with a reasonable offer. So going to keep it, but taking it to the next level. With that said, I won't be using this thread much anymore for it. It will no longer be much of a Comanche. With the exception of title, cab, dashboard, and some emblems it will be a completely ground up full tube chassis build. I have started to document the future of this truck on the forum below that is more suited to full chassis builds. https://irate4x4.com/threads/comanche-fun-runner-phase-3.412529/ Ill still be around for nostalgic reasons, but the next phase of this build doesnt apply to comanche's much anymore. Ill be posting not needed parts in the classifieds.
-
It has to be fixed one way or the other, I don't want to sell it, but if someone comes by with a wad of cash I could use that more than I can use a Jeep that sits and cost money lol
-
Alright so current damage report and things to finish: -Rear Axle shaft -Front Coilover needs a rebuild & new shaft -Front Differential re-gear Also slowly aqcuiruing parts to go back to a 4L80E...In my turbo truck I have one and really figured out how to tune it better and really enjoy how it drives, plus I can't do clutch drops which will save me from breaking axle shafts on the street some more lol. In doing so though, I will likely put a smaller cam in the LS3, so that I don't have to run a crazy torque converter, as that won't be ideal for an off road rig.
