1993 was the only year ZJ Grands had the option of the AX15. The front clip supports need to be swapped over. I might be doing this with my '86 that doesn't have an engine or tranny in it now. I have an '89 parts MJ that I'm taking the 4.0/AW4 out of and putting it in the '86. I have a complete MJ harness and engine compartment to get anything I need to make it work in the '86. It will be fun, no doubt!! Jerry

Thanks, really appreciate that. If I'm looking at this right, there are only 6 bolts/studs holding the bed on, right? If that is the case, I got them all, just need to drop the tank, unplug the wiring and fuel lines, and e-brake adjuster, and the bed should come off. Jerry

Ok, getting ready to take this bed off the parts Jeep ('89 SB), and I can only find 6 bolts/studs, and I heard there's supposed to be 8. So far, on each side, I have one stud all the way forward, one bolt just ahead of the rear axle, and one stud at the very rear. I see a hole in the frame just behind the rear axle, but doesn't seem to be anything there. Now, I should mention, I haven't dropped the tank yet, so, I know that still has to come. Am I missing another set of studs/bolts? Thanks! Jerry

Not Another One!!?? '88 Eliminator

Well, while the radiator was draining because it and the original hoses (hoses still had the AMC logo on them) needed replacement, I started taking things off. Ditched the busted tube bumper, and beat the driver side rear corner so I could drop the tailgate. The tailgate is in good shape, still latches and no damage besides the slight bend at the bottom from the tube bumper hit it. I think the bumper brackets can be straightened. Might start taking the bed off the '89 tomorrow, depending on time. Need to take it to the guy remaking the Eliminator stripes/decals to take measurements, then swap the beds, then get it painted, get the decals put on, and then the bedliner. Jerry -

You have your rear window!! :D Got a tarp covering it now the window is out. I would like to try and get it running before I pull the bed so I can see about putting the engine/tranny, and associated wiring into the '86 MJ. Jerry -

Got started on tearing down the parts MJ today. Man, is that cab GONE!!! It was so bad that when I moved the topper away from the cab, the slider came out of the cab!! The cab roof is like Swiss cheese!! The only metal on the truck not touched by cancer is the bed, got really lucky!! Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Jerry -

As for the cargo light, I'm thinking of just installing a couple of LED strips in the housing and be done. Jerry -

Cool, since you have a cargo light, do you know what the bulb holder looks like? I just have a strip of metal in the center that has the wire tap that the harness wire plugs onto, and the two metal strips at the screws, I assume those are the grounding sides, but, I can't see how a bulb would work between these strips. I think I'm missing a couple pieces that holds the bulbs in place. Image Not Found Image Not Found Got the B-Pillar lights from the '89 to work in the Eliminator, but only in manual mode, won't work with the door switch. Image Not Found Image Not Found Here is the retractable under hood work light. Image Not Found Image Not Found Does anyone know how the best way would be to get the cord to retract freely? I had some issues last night trying to get it to retract back. Thanks! Jerry -

Ok, got the '89 MJ parts truck home this afternoon. Found a couple of cool items on this truck, a factory rear cargo light with interior rocker switch, and a factory under hood work light and cable reel! I know the work light is a pretty rare option for XJ's, but, not sure about the cargo light. The cab is in far worse condition then I first thought, the metal above the doors and above both windshield and rear glass is totally shot! One of my friends wanted the rain gutter trim pieces, and, in trying to take them off, we took a big chunk of metal on both sides with the gutter trim. It's obvious this truck was never going to be driven ever again! The engine bay is complete, everything needed to put the 4.0 in the '86 MJ. Got two working B-Piller lights, but, they only work manually, and not by the door jamb switch.Tomorrow, the PB Blaster soaking of the bed nuts/studs starts on both trucks. I'm hoping by the end of the week, I'll have the '89 bed off and cleaned up, and the insurance adjuster will have finally looked at the Eliminator to see what they will do, so I can start tearing down and building up the Eliminator. Anyone know what years the cargo light and under hood work light were offered? Just curious, that's all. Thanks!! Jerry -

Well, the guy used it to transport an ocean kayak, which explains the rust cab roof, tailgate, and rear bumper. The only thing that spared the bed was the shell. Jerry -

Well, we decided to get the '89 parts MJ that's here in Stuart. I went to look at it tonight, and the bed is just about all the good sheet metal on the truck, LOL Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found The tailgate, cab roof, and rear bumper all seem to be Swiss cheese because of rust. The whole drivetrain (Renix 4.0, AW4 (?) column shift auto, and D35) is there, and could be used for the '86 MJ I have. Not bad for $300. Jerry -

Yeah, it has the cap for it, thinking of turning it into a trailer. I guess we could still do that with the old Eliminator bed, the body lines wouldn't have to be as critical on the trailer. Jerry -

Probably looking at getting another bed, got a line on one, with tail lights. I'm just seeing what and if the insurance will do anything before I do anything. It's not my insurance, so we'll see. I'm so glad that I extended the fuel pump ground wire, if it was factory, it probably would have got pulled loose from the body, and I wouldn't have had a fuel pump, making a need for a tow. Jerry -

Well, sad news in this Jeep household, some asshat in a Kia Soul ran a stoplight, and tagged the rearend of the Eliminator, after just getting my last two matching tires from Lee (Outlaw Star), Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found I'm more pissed then hurting, trying to get this thing together and looking decent, and this crap happens. Looks like I'll be looking for some parts.....again. Jerry
