Tank Sending Unit Fuel and Return Lines
JeepsOLot replied to JeepsOLot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Another possibility, I hope not, that the fuel line came off the pump inside the tank. Jerry -
Ok, I give up on the damn search. Having issues with getting fuel to the fuel rail, AGAIN. Now, supposedly, the PO replaced the pump and fuel rwgulator, didn't look like it to me, but someone said it was a newer style. I replaced it with a new one. I had pressure at the fuel rail up until last night. Getting ready to check and clean fuel injectors, but, thought I would try one more time. Pump comes on, seems to build pressure, but nothing at the test valve on the fuel rail! When I was testing it before I replaced the regulator, I put a pair of vise gripes on the return line, and, with the new pump, I had pressure. After I replaced the regulator, I had pressure at the rail. Not sure what happened, but, today, nothing, even when I put the vise grip back on the return line. I'm wondering, if the lines got switched at the sending unit, I made sure that, when I took everything out to swap out the pump, that the lines stayed as they were. Does anyone know, off hand, which outlet is supposed to go to what? Thanks, again! Jerry

Will do about the stripes. I got the interior finished. I took the tan XJ console that was going into the '86, painted it gray, and installed it in the Eliminator. Ok, got the fuel pressure regulator replaced, and cleaned fuel rail out. Almost got it to run 4 secs this time!! Getting closer! Anyway, I got two other things not engine related done, I helped the drivers side window regulator past it's bad spot so I could roll the window up and get rid of the hideous tarp, and put the CJ's 32x11.50 spare on the pass side rear so I have four inflated tires on the Jeep!! Even at stock height, that size doesn't look ridiculous. Image Not Found Image Not Found Jerry -
Well, seems like it's working now, don't want to take them out again. I used a 7/16 socket to get them out, and, yes, it has a shoulder on it. Jerry

88 Eliminator with Renix 4.0 Here are the front two groups of two. The front set just comes off straight to the injectors, but, both the middle and rear groups of two look crossed over each other. What do you guys think? Image Not Found Image Not Found Jerry

Ok, make a long story short, new CPS was bad, got another one, and it seems to be ok, getting spark at least. I can only get it to run for a couple of seconds. Tomorrow, taking the fuel rail off, cleaning the injectors, putting new o-rings on the injectors, cleaning the fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pressure regulator. Hopefully, I can get the engine to run after that. The slave will have to wait until next weekend because of the budget. Jerry -
Yeah, the AX15 you have to be careful. I actually run 10W30 synthetic oil in my AX15 in my '92 CJ9 for years. My friend did some snooping around, and he found that the Mopar spec oil for the AX15 was basically 10W30 motor oil. Another thing about regular gear oil in an AX15 is they are too heavy, and it doesn't shift as smooth, especially in cold weather. Jerry

LOL, yeah, no kidding! Well, something happened to the new CPS, as after getting it out to take it back, this is what I had: Image Not Found I have no idea what happened, but, it wasn't good!! I just got another one, and it seems to be working. Now, I'll just have to clean the injectors, hopefully, it will run more then two seconds! Thanks, everyone! Jerry

That's what I figure, but, I'm not getting any volts from either the old or new CPS's. Want to make sure that 1. I'm testing them right, and 2. that I didn't get a bad new CPS. Jerry

Help with why gas-gauge is not working?
JeepsOLot replied to Crist Clapper's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Broken wire to sender perhaps? Jerry -
Forgot to add, I tested while trying to crank. Jerry

Here is what Cruiser has in his tips: Unplug the harness connector from the CPS. Using your voltmeter set on AC volts and probing both wires in the connector going to the CPS, crank the engine over. It won’t start with the CPS disconnected. You should get a reading of .5 AC volts. If you are down in the .35 AC volts range or lower on your meter reading, you can have intermittent crank/no-start conditions from your Renix Jeep. Some NEW CPSs (from the big box parts stores) have registered only .2 AC volts while reading the proper resistance!! That’s a definite no-start condition. Best to buy your CPS from Napa or the dealer. What I don't get is how can you test for voltage with the CPS disconnected? I'm definitely missing something here, but, I don't know what it is. I put the leads on both terminals of the disconnected CPS, both new and old, and I get nothing using A/C on the voltmeter. Jerry

Not sure, I grabbed the shifter, in anticipation of getting the tranny too for the '86. Jerry -
On an '88 Eliminator. The two under the headlight lights don't work, both turn signal and running lights. In taking the bulb out to check it, I physically don't see how the side of the bulb is grounded, All I see are the two contacts the would mate to the bottom of the bulb. Are there supposed to be grounds for the side of the bulbs? The reason I'm asking is, do I have have bad sockets or the wrong bulbs? I looked at my '93 Cherokee, and the sockets, I believe, are different. Thanks!! Jerry

Hood Hinge on drivers side is messed up
JeepsOLot replied to JeepsOLot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep, Pete, it was that simple!! The hood really flexes in that area, apparently. Sprayed some oil on it, and moved the hood open and closed a few times, it freed up!! Thanks! Jerry -

Thanks, but, Davie is pretty far from Stuart. I believe there's a '94 XJ with an AX15 in the Atlantic LKQ in West Palm, might check that out tomorrow. Jerry -
Ok, just wanted to know what others were using, thanks Jerry

Well, installed the new clutch master cylinder and filled it up. When I pumped up the pressure, fluid promptly ran out of the bell housing, great, need new slave. The fuel regulator and CPS will be arriving tomorrow, so, hope to get it at least started tomorrow. Jerry -
Can't find jack about what is recommended for the BA10/5 tranny. Anyone know? I know I want to get an AX15, but, I want to make this last until I can. Thanks Jerry

JeepsOLot replied to JeepsOLot's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yeah, going to swap out the D44 from the '86 and put it in the Eliminator, and sell the '86, I'm just not feeling with doing a motor/tranny transplant, when I found this '88 with the 4.0, manual and bucket seats. So far, replaced the fuel pump (they didn't replace it), and I have parts to replace the clutch master cylinder, o-rings for the injectors, fuel regulator, and straps for the rear axle drive shaft u-joint. Do you think it's that simple? I hope so!! Had to take a break from it last night, family obligations. Will be getting on it tonight. Jerry
