I have no plans of driving this on the road with its current set up. Maybe once down my street just to get it moving. It's not my daily so I'm not in a rush -

I think I'm good. Axle and out put are both set at right on 3*. We'll see once I get it to move, but I think it'll be fine -

I'm not going to run it that way, I am in the process of putting in an 8.25, going SOA, and lifting the whole thing, but don't have the front lift components yet. So even if it is a negative pinion, in theory it will work out once I lift the front.... Maybe -
So I've read several SOA threads but I'm just trying to get everything squared away to do this once. Staying regular drive shaft so the pinion and t-case output will be at the same angle. My question is, with my truck sitting stock height in the front, and approx 5 inches in the rear with the SOA, will the lean towards the front throw of the angle measurement, or am I just over thinking things. If anyone could clarify I'd appreciate it.

First off, good luck squeezing that much tire with no lift. I don't think you would have any fender or bedside when you got done. If you are wheeling it too hard/much the D30 may hold up. The easiest swap for the rear IMO is a Ford 8.8 from a late 90s explorer. 31 spline axles and disc brakes, just need a few parts to make them work properly. However, depending on money you could step up to a 44 or 60 but then you either have to look into narrowing them or run them full width. In the end it comes down to how much you want to pay. Anything can be done with $$

For an eastern meet up I feel like this may be a strong possibility. It's a couple hours from me, and I feel like it would be about the same forseveral others.

A little update with a couple pics. Rear end is out of the MJ and perches are on order for the 8.25. While I wait for those to come in I plan to cut out the rust on the rear wheel wells and clean up the floors to get ready for patch panels. Axle out Rust doesn't go up as high as the bondo is. Plan to run TJ flares on the it so a little extra wheel well is fine with me. And here is the state of the parts XJ. Still some stuff left to pull, but I've made almost all my money back so I'm happy with that.

So wheeling won't happen this year for me as I doubt the manch will be done by then. Just trying to gauge interest in a meet up at Rausch Creek next spring at some point. I've been out of the wheeling game for too long, and really want to come back in the right way. Hit me up with some ideas or potential dates. Really want to make this happen!

Depends on your trucks setup. Motor/trans? More than likely an axle from an XJ will be 3.55 gears

Well, made a little progress this weekend. Finally got the rear axle out, and managed to get a lot of the XJ torn apart and sold some parts to help recoup some of my money. Hopefully next weekend I can get the straight beam outta the Manch and swap in the D30. We shall see. Not much to really see as far as pics just yet

So not really an update. Started a new job a few weeks ago and haven't had much time to work on this thing. Got the rear out of the XJ and a few other parts. Currently fighting a rusted on wheel, but I've decided I'm going to just pull the axle with the tire on. Will be slightly annoying, but shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully I can get some more progress soon

I'm just gonna try the pb blaster first. I thought about pulling the shaft and wheel in one unit, but the d35 decided to be it's typical self and implode. I can't get access to the c clip, so might have to get creative getting it out.

So I'm trying to pull the rear axle on my 91 but I can't get the PS rear wheel off for the life of me. I've gone as far as hitting the tire from the inside with a sledge and still nothing. Anyone who's run into this before have any tips?

I'd buy it for sure. I'd love a dd with a 242. It's pretty much exactly what I want. Just if I can come up with the money
