How to cut MJ in half to make trailer out of bed?
kyleag89 replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: Then buy a 5$ trailer wiring harness and splice it into the factory tail light harness so you have working factory lights. -
The words cheap, easy, and lift don't belong anywhere near each other.. Just look through the first few pages of the tech section there is about 10 threads on this topic.

I think that truck belongs to a member on here.

How to cut MJ in half to make trailer out of bed?
kyleag89 replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wouldn't it be cheaper/more practical to just buy a TSC trailer? Is all the money and time invested in the "MJ" trailer really worth it if you have to fab a straight axle in? Not to mention building a frame, tongue, and then having to get it inspected and titled. -
The brackets on the c4x4 site look exactly like mine it might even be the same picture. I think they might have just sent me the wrong bolts for the sleeved hole in the frame. That IRO bar looks awesome, I would deffinitly buy that over the bracket idea if I were to even get any use out of them.

Like I said the brackets and hooks were great quality, I just wish they would give you hardware that doesn't break if you look at it too hard!
-
Its possible the headlight switch is making the dash lights not work but the passenger running light is a different problem.
-
I just installed a pair of Rugged Ridge tow hooks off Quadratec on the MJ. The brackets and hooks are fine but the hardware it comes with is not useable. The bolts it comes with for the farthest hole are too long and hit the steering box on the drivers side and the alternator on the passengers side. The bolts that hold the tow hooks to the bracket are cheap china metal. One of them snapped as I was tightening it and two others stripped.

Someone sure put a lot of effort in making it look horrible!

Check ALL the fuses with a test light.

Sounds like any project I take on! Almost everything I do to my Jeeps turns into a headache and becomes way more complicated than it should be. After swearing and throwing lots of tools around the garage I get it done then I swear I'll never do it again. Little do I know... I'll do it again! :fs2:

Help with trailer lighting
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They are working for now. I'm not sure what I did but they started working although the bulbs in the rear tails do act a little funny. -
Taking the engine in an out of the truck isn't as hard as it sounds. Just take your time and have a friend help you and it will go easy. A shop will charge a min. of $1,000 to do a swap.

Help with trailer lighting
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just hooked everything up as you described. I grounded the harness to the bed and then connected the remaining three wires to the taillight harness. I am tapping into them where they come through the back of the bed. What am I missing? -
Help with trailer lighting
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ahhh THANK YOU!! I am grounding the trailer wiring to the truck ground harness.(ground wire in the tail light harness) So I should just ground it to the truck body somewhere? That must be the problem. I was beginning to think I needed the converter box like my XJs have. -
I followed the write-up from this topic.. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20578 My brake lights won't work and if I have the running lights on the turn signals won't work. If the running lights are off the turn signals and the brake light work as they should. What am I missing here? I'm using a standard 4 wire flat trailer plug.

Ok sounds good, your package should be there tomorrow or monday.

I will see you there! Looks like we may be parking next to each other. I am in the process of installing front tow hooks and a rear hitch for recovery points so I can wheel the MJ.

I entered the Mj in this huge show next weekend! I did see in some pics that a member here went to the show last year. I believe its comanchekid45?? I will have my CC windshield decal on the MJ and spread the word. Anyone here ever been to this show? http://www.pajeeps.org/

Broken Lower Shock mount + more
kyleag89 replied to biev's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
IMO I would stay away from rustys products. I have heard nothing but bad things about them. I would just clean up your old mount weld it then add some 1/8"x1" flat stock to beef it up. -
I have a C8.25 that I want to swap in my MJ in place of the D35. I already cut the perches off, can I reuse them or do I NEED new ones? I took my time getting them off and they are in good shape. Also how do I know where to weld the perches on? I don't have a welder so I have to bring it to the shop but I have to mark where they need to be. I am keeping it SUA but I will be building a bastard pack for about 2" lift.

When I needed hinges I went to the pick n pull but they don't allow power tools. I found an XJ with cracked welds and jumped on the door til they broke free then unbolted them from the door.

If your truck is running hot and both your fans are operating properly than you have a weak or faulty componant. The waterpump could be on its way out or your radiator could be clogged. Whats your coolant look like?
