And when towing any more than 600lbs the trans mount likes to break! (original 1989) -
Emergency brake pedal not working..
kyleag89 replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry my bad... My father needed to replace his and I thought he got it from a cherokee but I now remember he got it from a MJ. -
Starter it is.... Gotta put my chemical suit on to remove it...lol from 2 tranny lines busting and an old oil leak, AND an old coolant leak the starter was left with a 1/4" of slime on it and everything around it.

Emergency brake pedal not working..
kyleag89 replied to CHINOTJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can unbolt the entire mechanism from the body of the truck and replace it with ANY cherokee pedal from the junk yard. Well a cherokee from around 1985-1996 -
I put it in nuetral and nothing.. tried switching from D to Park and N to Park still the same. I am now leaning towards the starter. Can I just put a screwdriver between the two connection points on the starter and see if it spins?
-
If it were the CPS wouldn't it still crank?
-
Thanks guys. How would I use a jumper wire to test the switches? It did this to me last night but I was able to start it again by switching gears via the shifter on the column. Unfortunatly that isn't working now. BeepBeep where are you located?
-
89 4.0 AW4.. When I turn the key all power comes on but when I turn to start position nothing happens. Everything stays on but just no crank. Batt and cables are all in good shape, could it possibly be the ignition switch? It could be the starter but it didn't show any signs of failing.

My truck revved high when the TPS went bad.
-
Thanks guys I guess I will test my solenoids first before replacing anything.
-
Do you guys think it could be something else? It really kinda bangs and chugs when shifting under mid- acceleration. Under light and heavy acceleration it shifts ok.
-
Fluid is new.. Exactly like you guys said, I was going to sell it then boom another problem. I had a buyer lined up for close to what I have into it... Guess I gotta Just Empty Every Pocket AGAIN.. Anyone need a great parts truck??
-
Any insight for the guy who checked his TPS and played with the kickdown cable for hours?
-
Not hi-jacking but I am experiencing the same same thing as of yesterday!! Figures the MJ must know I was going to sell her!!
-
Wow that is crazy. I would have thought it to be the other way around. My 89 MJ gets horrible gas mileage.
-
Just curious if you H.O guys are getting any better gas mileage? I am selling my Firebird to buy a cherokee since I now have the Jeep bug.
-
I will, its kind of a slow process working on the Jeep right now. I have a Firebird I'm also working on and it is getting a new rear end right now then its back to the jeep. I'm also waiting on my new black fender flares to come UPS so I can hide the bed wheel well where I had to cut out losts of rust. Then I am going to paint the MJ charcoal metallic which was the color when I bought it.

This plug. Just wanted to know what size it is so I can buy one before I take it apart. Thanks to pete for the photo..
-
Ok so I am removing the rear prop valve because a line blew. I was just wondering if anyone knew what size plug it is to block off the MC?
-
I will take some pics tomorrow of my rear bumper I made out of "C" channel. It is 6" and I welded a receiver I bought from autozone on the bottom. I used the stock bumper mounting plates and welded them to the back. I towed my 5'x8' trailer loaded from MA to MD with no problems. I also used it to pull a few trees down.
-
As you can see in the pics before I actually cut out about 1.5inches of metal around the bottom of the truck and bent the bottom up to look a little better. The passenger side isn't finished but the drivers side is a little better. I cut out all the rocker material and I am going to fab some kind of square tubing to mount in its place(Since there is nothing there to even mount a rocker to anymore).
-
Ok well I am finally getting back to working on my appearance of the MJ! I thought I would post some pics of my truck for everyone to see. This is my rocker Removed fender flares and cut back the rust.

trucks starting to run horrible any advice?
kyleag89 replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Try unplugging your oxygen sensor and see it the stuttering goes away. Same thing happened to my truck when I first bought it. -
Odds are if it has more than 150K the steering box should be replaced.
