Get the cluster with all the functioning guages, you will be a lot happier with that one. The guage you have now(but won't work) those lights are called idiot lights. They will only light up once it is too late, like when my alternator died the BATT light went on as the truck lost power and died.

Jeep makes "popping" noise under load
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thought I would update this post for someone who may have this problem in the future. I ran some Seafoam through one of the vaccum lines on the intake manifold and put some in gas tank. I also added a little Marvel Mystery Oil into the engine oil. I then removed and cleaned my injectors and put new O-ring seals on them and it runs perfect. -
Ok so I finally saw how easy it is to swap my monster fuel guage to the nice full cluster pack. I swapped the oil sending unit and was curoius.. My coolant temp sensor looks identical to the one you are supposed to swap in to make the temp guage work. Do they both look the same but function differently? Also I finally converted and charged my A/C system and it is blowing icy cold. There is a lot of water dumping right in front of the pass tire. Is this normal, as well as my coolant bottle overflowing? I am nervous to run the system because I don't want to overheat and not know because the temp guage doesnt work. Thanks guys

Do you have a lot of slop in your steering, like you can turn your wheel left and right a couple inches before the tires actually move?
-
A clunk in your front end isn't good. Have a friend turn the wheel while you look underneath watching all moving parts to see for any obvious slop of tie rods, pitman arm, etc..

Jeep makes "popping" noise under load

Ok so I guess I will run some MMO through the vac line and put some in the gas and hope that will clear up any issues that the motor and fuel system may have. I prefer the MMO over the seafoam too Eagle.. lol I have seen MMO do things seafoam could never do! -

I'm so stumped I just went out with Mr maglight and pulled the two easy plugs and they were both white as a ghost... The dizzy still looks new inside. Too lean and it doesn't run too hot. -

Gas is only 3 days old.. I got a fuel pressure tester tonight and started troubleshooting. The pressure was 39psi w/vac unhooked and 30psi when everything hooked up as normal. Although the pump is screaming at me and sounds louder than it should be it passed the flow test. I didn't get to do the leak down test yet because it got dark. Anyone think the injectors are possibly very dirty? I guess I will clean them tomorrow. -

I forgot to add that all the vaccum lines are also new, and the egr works fine. The exhaust is new from header back with no cat. -

Thanks guys but I have been a member for about a year and I already know of the "lung" write ups and I have used it to check all my sensors, the plugs, wires, and dizzy are all new.. I replaced the ballast resistor last week and the IAC. I haven't been able to buy a fuel pressure tester yet so I have no idea what kind of pressure there is. I read the write up on testing the MPI injection system and I will do that ASAP hopefully in the next few days when I have time. I am almost 99% positive it is the fuel pump after hearing what you guys said, but I won't know for sure until I get the tester on it. I drove it today for the first time in awhile and the pump was whining louder than usual so I'm sure that will be the culprit. I will replace the O2 sensor to since the one thats in there is questionable. So I have it narrowed down to fuel issue because EVERYTHING else is either new or been inspected and checked out in working order. Thanks I will keep you posted when I do the test.. -

Thanks guys.. I will check the fuel pressure first and go from there. The o2 sensor also sounds like it might have something to do with it. -

Ok so if it isn't 40psi what would you suggest replacing first? The pump or could it be the fuel pressure reg? I'd hate to drop the tank and have it be under the hood. -

Its an 89 renix 6, 4wd with 160k. I haven't done anything to the motor other than test all my sensors to make sure they work properly. I am thinking fuel issue or maybe manifold leak? If I buy a fuel pressure guage and test that how would I know exactly what to replace? I mean it could be the pump, injectors, or the pressure reg. The fuel filter is new. Also how would I test to see if the timing chain is ok? Would I just put the light on it and see if the timing is at "x" degrees, whatever it should be? -
Well more problems with the MJ today. It ran fine all day then out of nowhere it lost power and would make a popping noise from the motor area when I would press the gas pedal more than half way. Then it started running ok and when I got on the highway any faster than 65mph it would loose power and pop again. Any ideas?

Anyone use these rockers before?
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.partstrain.com/ShopByDepartment/Rocker_Panel/JEEP I tried uploading a pic of my jeep but my photobucket isnt working -
I am trying to find a panel that will replace the huge gap that the rust has taken over. I will cut all the metal out, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what I can put there that will look halfway decent. Now that winter is over and I no longer NEED to drive my comanche work continues.

Rustys 3" kit question for someone who bought it
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok well I need to replace the shackles. Will the cherokee shackles bolt on without mods? If so what lengh would I need to buy in order to be the same stock lengh or longer? -

One more question I forgot.. Are the XJ and MJ rear shackles the same? Mine are very rusty and one has a hole in the middle so while I am doing the lift I will replace them. I was thinking a 1" extended shackle so it will give me a little extra in addition to the aal. I also put a lot of weight in the back of my truck so it will also help with that. Thanks -

Ok I guess I will go with Hell Creek, since that seems to be a higher quality product. How long did it take you guys to install the kit? Also anyone recomend ordering anything additional to the kit? -
Rustys 3" kit question for someone who bought it
kyleag89 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The rusty's kit has the same shocks and coils as the others but offers a full lengh aal, and $70 cheaper. What is wrong with that? -
I am ordering the Rustys 3" kit. I wanted to know from someone who bought this kit before what exactly it comes with. It says it has the rear full length aal and U bolts but does it come with centering bolts? (if you even need them I don't know). And do you need the leaf spring clips? Also does it include new bolts for the shocks, because mine are rusted and will probly break when I take them off. Thanks

Hi guys, I have repaired any rust and replaced both doors.. Time for rocker panels. I found this site http://www.rustrepair.com Has anyone used the type of rocker panel they sell? I know I saw a site that had MJ rocker panels that included the cab corner built into the panel but can't seem to find it.
