  1. So basically you understand how the parts work but not how they work together.
  2. Yes its an AMC
  3. The chysler and jeep 2.5ls are unrelated. The only dodge that got the Jeep 2.5l was the Dakota.
  4. If you apply power to an axle with an autolocker it will lock. The point of full time is you can use it on the road, you don't want to be driving down the street with your front locker engaged.
  5. Its really not much trouble, the hinges come off fairly easy. I always say to use XJ rear hinges because they often get little use and are usually like new. Also the rear hinges are much easier to get to then the front ones.
  6. The one on my 242 seems different then the one for a 231. But then I haven't compared them side by side so you could be right.
  7. I mentioned the cad for those who don't know that you can't have it with a 242. How can full time 4wd work with an autolocker? Lock the front of a Jeep with a 242, go drive around on pavement in full time then tell me how that works out for you. You must run selectables if you want to keep the full time setting and if you give up fulltime there is no point in having a 242.
  8. 8psi would give you a lot more then 30-40hp.
  9. A 4.0l puts out around 135hp at the wheels a 2.5l turbo can put out 180-200hp at the wheels fairly easily.
  10. Its plenty strong for normal use, I didnt mind it at all in my XJ. But then I don't think the OP has a stockish dd.
  11. You also have to consider that 242s don't like CAD axles or auto lockers.
  12. 231 1885ft lbs max torque 242 1486 ft lbs max torque
  13. The 242 in my XJ is stock with the factory skid plate. If they are the same why do 242s use an additional skid plate that 231s didnt get? I'm comparing XJs And MJs.
  14. If its the same then why does one hang under the jeep and the other doesnt? The 231 is above the crossmember and the 242 hangs far below it. I have both side by side the 242 is a rock magnet.
  15. They hang down a lot further. My XJ even had a seperate skid plate just for it.
  16. Thats a nice BMW, I had an 88 E28 535 the "shark nose". It was a neat car
  17. The 242 is a little weaker then a 231, You also give up quite a bit of ground clearance with the 242.
  18. I used rear hinges on mine, they are the same hinge they just cut the mount tab a little to fit the piller in the XJ which doesnt really matter since you will be welding them on anyway. I would just go to a wrecking yard, XJs are easy to find.
  19. Ive been considering that on my 2.5l too.
  20. Whats reasonable cost? Problem is the cheap kits are missing things to keep cost down and the expensive kits have most of what you need but cost a lot more. Once you add the missing stuff to the cheaper kits you probably could have bought about any of them.
  21. That makes more sence. A 14b is either a mitsi turbo or a Toyota diesel engine. So your gonna turbo the 2.5l then
  22. I don't follow. A 14b is a turbo size but yet you don't know what size turbo yet.
  23. Though ive seen 4cyl metric tons,a 2.5l auto with a D44 seems unlikely.
  24. How do you plan to keep the new manifold without swapping the entire engine wiring and ECU? Your MJ is TBI and it looks like you have an MPFI manifold.
  25. Be careful with those warranties as they typically don't cover calibration issues.
