  1. Explain to me then how it is ok to have the front locked on the street, keep in mind that some people drive in full time on dry pavement. I sure wouldnt want my axles locked together. Its not safe.
  2. Have you ever gone around a corner with the rear locked? Now imagine that with your steer axle.
  3. It has nothing to do with the t case itself. Its the fact that the full time function will cause the front locker to lock which is not a desirable thing in the situations that most people use full time. Its not either part thats having a problem,its just the way they react to each other. Would you want to be driving around on pavement with the front end locked?
  4. Milky oil means the presence of water in the oil , not necessarily coolant. Vehicles that that sit alot, especially on grass and in wet climates can build condensation which can get bad enough to give you milky oil. Also vehicles that don't get properly warmed up often will do it because they don't ever get hot enough to burn off the gathered moisture. Often a good drive will clear it up. I'm not saying thats the case here but its good to know when troubleshooting.
  5. True, it would be better then driving in part time but still wouldnt drive well. IMO if you intend to use fulltime on the street and want a locker do yourself a favor and get a selectable locker.

  8. That is correct, I never said it would affect the t case itself. Its the t case and the purpose of full time that will cause the problem but the axle will have the problem. My point is the two parts don't mix well and you will lose the use of full time as it was intended for road use. The thread is about 231 vs 242 I simply pointed out that if you put in an autolocker you will loose fulltime which is the number one reason to swap in a 242 in the first place. If someone chooses to drive on the road with a locked front locker thats on them, imo its not safe.
  9. You would definently need a lot of engine work to safely run that much boost. Also doubling atmospheric pressure will only double displacement if your engine can process all of it which most stock engines can't. Keep in mind that what you see on the boost guage is residual pressure and not what the engine is actually using,an engine can only move so much air and the rest is just residual.
  10. I found a guy with a 2.5l running 8psi and making 170 hp at the wheels. I tried to get his dyno sheet but the link is too old. With our old school engine I would expect about 8hp per lb of boost more effecient engines can make more.
  11. Yes turning would have sucked,have you ever had one lock going around a corner? You drag a tire like a welded diff, not something you would want on a steer axle. They also can get bound up which would also suck on a steer axle. I don't think people realize it but they are locked far more often then they are unlocked.
  12. In full time with a front autolocker towing ,the locker would have been locked most of your trip. So you think you would have went all that way just fine with the front end locked?
  13. My point exactly. You didnt need full on 4wd so you used fulltime, how would this have played out if you had an autolocker.
  14. Yes with a part time case but the point of the full time is to make it more like a subaru, people use it when its not necessary to be in part time.
  15. Do some looking on the web and you will find post after post saying exacty what ive been saying. I honestly thought it was common knowledge till today. The only people you will find doing it don't use the full time function anymore or run with thier hubs unlocked on the street which isnt an option for us.
  16. Its not fast acceleration. Its super simple you apply power to it the locker locks you take power away it can ratchet.plain and simple. When in full time you will be applying power to the front axle everytime you touch the gas which means you will be driving with the front locker locked which would be the same as driving with spider gears welded. A locker is not a limited slip, when locked they act like a spool.
  17. Jeepco go weld your front spider gears and drive around for a while in full time then tell me whats skewed.
  18. We are talking about the front not the rear, I doubt you have a limited slip in your d30. And if you think my thinking is skewed then you obviously don't know how an autolocker works. Driving in full time with an auto locker would be the same as driving in part time with one, which anybody with a brain knows you don't do on dry pavement. You must have a selectable locker that can be turned off if you want to use full time on the road.
  19. I wish I had snapped a pic of the two side by side. If you look at yours where they weld to the body you will see its a rectangle pad. On the back doors they clip the forward facing corners of that pad off. Other wise they are the same. The price probably has to do with demand, front break or wear out all the time and rears rarely do.

The brackets were a prototype bracket a local builder had made, something went wrong when he designed them and they came out all wrong and were unusable so I re engineered a set and made them work. By the time i was done I could have just as easily made them from scratch. So basically I made them .
  21. I got a chance to play with the winch today and it performed great although I think I'm going to remove a wrap off the drum. With as tight I have it tucked in there its sometimes hard to keep track of how its winding so I think loosing a wrap will help with piece of mind.
  22. Ive heard of people doing it. You can also build the 231 case to have the stronger parts and the 4.1:1 as well as a 2wd low range if you wanted. You can beef the 242 up as well but there is less options out there then there is for the 231
  23. But it is. When you are in full time you are supplying power to the front axle which will lock an autolocker so any time you are in full time the axle is locked. This defeats the purpose of the full time for street use which is the main reason people swap in a 242 in the first place.
  24. What your saying is its ok to drive a jeep in full time on pavement with the front axle locked in.
