  1. that little brace where the rust stops on pete's pictures, does that really have a purpose? on my passenger side its almost gone and i really don't want to try and reproduce a brace. Josh
  2. yupp thatd be them alright! but the ones i saw in his shop didnt have the tailight cut out. Josh
  3. i actually herd that the engine break in is best done with regualr oil (herd it on horsepower i believe, well that was atleast before royal purple came out with break in oil, which is essentially regualr oil in royal purple bottle) and switching regular to sythentic ive herd causes leaks because it does clean out the sludge that seals the rings in older unmaintained engines. once again ive only HERD stories ive never experienced it (i take care of my motors) myself so until i experience it myself I'm going to be like switzerland and stay neutral. just giving my 2cents though. oh and also, sorry for hijacking this thread. Josh
  4. so would full sythentic (after the break in stage) be better to run in my motor over regular oil? Josh
  5. man i was really interested untill you mentioned this part...ive had some problems with rustys and i try to avoid them at all costs. Josh
  6. :hijack: what about full sythentics like royal purple? I'm doing a 4.6l stroker in my 89 and ive always been told to never switch over an engine that has been run on regular oil for years to full synthetic, but I'm having it bored and machined so its basically going to be a new motor and I'm worried about the oil. regular MJ recommended oil is designed for 4.0l and with the 4.6l its going to be producing alot more power and with more power comes more heat so i figured full synthetic? could i be wrong? ive been having this "debate" (full synthetic vs. regular oil) with my dad for a long time now and he insists that regular is better. Also by the way i run 10w30 whatever-is-the-$12.99-oil-change-special-at-advance-autoparts-or-autozone with a can of restore. i believe it has zinc added in it and it seriously worked miracles on engines of mine. every oil change i will EVER do i will always put a can of restore in there because it works and ive seen it work first hand. Josh
  7. like what are some horror stories? i bought autolite platinum plugs for my future 4.6l stroker but i have yet to fire the motor and I'm actually a long ways away from firing it (i actually bought the plugs for my XJ and ended up just cleaning my old ones in a spark plug cleaner) Josh
  8. man i wish i had your floors! check out mine! i didnt even start cutting away yet thats exacly how it was under my carpet. Josh
  9. i had bad ball joints which caused my death wobbleon my MJ. i just needed to tighten my trackbar bolts on my XJ. Also with the speedo cable, check your length! ill take measuremnets for you tomorrow because there are 2 different lengths. I have an 89 swb 4.0l auto 2wd and for some reson i have a 4cylinder 4x4 length speedo cable. they are different lengths by far. i got mine at advance autoparts too, not a universal kit but an actual MJ cable. goodluck! Josh
  10. i really wish i would have took pictures of thme when i was up there. if you can imagine a comanche bedside with no gas door and no tailight box for a 7foot bed, that pretty much what you get. they also curve over to the inside of the bed, by which i mean the top flat spot that a camper shell would sit ontop of. its really hard for me to explain. i havent been to my shop in awhile but i will snap pictures tomorrow morning and post them tomorrow night. Josh
  11. don't quote me on this but if the front doors are there you might want to look at thoes. early XJs had the winged glass instead of the stationary glass. i picked up a set of doors off an 84 XJ and i can't wait to put them on my one project. Josh
  12. ok its not really comanche tech, but it is tech and does involve a comanche. I know where i can get a factory amc rubber bedmat for a swb and i have been looking everywhere for one! the problem is that it has been exposed to the elements for some time now. the black rubber is faded alittle and there are cracks that are visible like dryrot but the mat itself is still very flexible and rubbery. is there anyway to bring the bedmat back to life? its going to be more for show/rarity rather than just protecting my bed floor. i havent talked prices with him yet but what would be a resonable price for it? also if anyone would like to get rid of one... :D Josh
  13. i witnessed him do this in person and the video still just does not do justice for the real thing. congrats again marcel!! Josh
  14. id be more than happy to snap some pictures! the only problem i have encountered so far is with the floorpans. i only have a passenger side right now and they are for an XJ and i never pulled the carpet in an XJ but it seems that the front floorpans are about 4-5inches longer than what will fit without cutting. there is a brace that gives support to the floor in the MJ and the XJ pans are longer than said brace. its kind of hard to explain so ill just snap pictures. my rockers just came in th other day and i have yet to actually match them to the body of my truck so it will be a surprise for all of us on how well they fit. Josh
  15. marcel the bumper is veeerrryyyy nice. wish you woulda had it on at JS, i would have loved to check it out! Josh (the young kid in the army green ZJ that was talking to you at the campground on saturday and was also there pulling the log out from under the silver liberty)
  16. i have a broken main spring on my 90 elminator and i priced at getting just the main spring made and it $500 for the one leaf!!!! i can get both side full replacement packs from heelcreek for the much. i don't know up there, but around me the spring shops are a rip off. Josh
  17. chrysler sells the plain generic rubber ones that just say JEEP on it. i just got 4 of them for my XJ and they are really nice. i have 3 of the red white and blue AMC jeep ones and I'm looking for a passenger side rear if anyone would like to sell it to me :D
  18. yupp i bought both side floorpans and both side rockers for my current project. my dad is still dead against buying bedside panels at the moment cause there is a complete hole free bed completely across the state that if i go to pick it up, it will cost more in gas driving than the entire price of both bedsides, not including the $250 for the price of the bed. the floorpan that i have (the other is still on backorder) fits like a dream and is stamped out of 18gauge i believe. the rockers also fit the contour perfectly (better than the 4door XJ ones i was orginally going to use) Ive been up to Zacks shop twice now and if anyone ever gets a chance to go up there and even just look around, its DEFFINATLY worth it! there is just so much jeep stuff its insane! there is also an 86 swb MJ with the GM 2.8 and 4wd that he will sell for $400 and I'm really tempted to snatch it! not bad shape either, but see for yourself: Josh
  19. I know this is an MJ club but I know alot of people run lockers on here and i need some expert guidance on my ZJ. Ok now thanks to my birthday/graduation funds, I now have enough dough to put a locker in my ZJ. Since I'm going to be upgrading my d35 in the rear after it gives out Ive decided on going with a front locker and I don't know which one to choose. Ive narrowed it down to either the Detroit Softlock or a regular Aussie Locker. I know alot of people run aussies and so far I havent herd anything bad on them. I originally wanted the detroit softlock because it seemed it was the only locker that locks up 100% of the time, and since my rig is a trailer queen it doesnt matter for street driving. I have $240 in 4wheeldrive hardware giftcards so I would be only putting about $260 cash which is only a tad bit more than what I would be paying for an Aussie because they don't sell Aussie lockers at 4wheeldrive hardware. But on the 4wd website it says that I need a front hub conversion and I have no idea what that is. It also doesnt say how hard it is to install it and neither my dad nor me know anything about axle gearing. On the other hand the Aussie locker is more streetable but again, that doesnt matter to me. It also says that if I can change brake pads I can install and aussie locker, but it also says I need to install it in an open carrier and I think I have a limited slip in the front since the jeep has the np249 transfercase (all wheel drive, 4lo). Also would installing a front locker screw up my transfercase since it is all wheel drive? do I need to use a certain gear oil with a locker? How could I tell if it has a limited slip in the front? Right now the jeep is on all four jack stands and when I put it in all wheel drive all four tires spin, when I put it in 4lo, the front driver side tire spins extreamly slow and the rear passenger tire spins extreamly slow weither it's in drive or reverse. No other tires spin so I'm guessing it does have a limited slip. Josh
  20. check this place out!! http://www.teamcherokee.com expensive, yes. But it is OEM...
  21. To anyone who is on the fence about these patch panels from Z&M JEEPS, I'm soon going to be picking up atleast one set of besides for my one MJ, and if they are as good as they sound i might be picking up another set for my other swb and a final set for my lwb. I also might be looking at the cab corners and possibly the bed floors (still havent pulled the factory comanche bedliner in my elminator to see how bad the bed really is) I don't live too far away from the company and until i find a place that does mediablasting on trucks, i have ALOT of time on my hands :D Ill let you all know how good the stuff really is. I might also be looking at getting a few set of rocker panels too. I'm sure the company does not do shotty work and I'm actaully really excited because now i don't have to drive completely across the state to pick up a whole swb bed!!! ill be sure to bring my camera to take lots of pictures for everyone. Josh
  22. a guy GAVE me a set of thoes rare silverstars. i posted my old generic grand cherokee honeycomb rims on there with bald tires the guy came, bought them for $50, and gave me his old silverstars with basically brand new firestone destinations on them. only downside is one rim is bent but there is a shop around me that fixes dented alloys.
  23. wow was i off! according to him its the factory mat that says JEEP with the AMC logo or maybe its the AMC logo and it says AMC either one it says something on it. i want it BAD!!! he doesnt know it but i was emailing him using my mom email address and i offered him $200 for it and then he suddenly stopped talking to me. so i tried him on my email and i have yet to make an offer. damn was i over paying!!!
  24. i have a chance to buy a factory rubber comanche bed mat. its been used obviously and the wheel wells have been cut a bit to fit a ranger. its for a long bed and he told me to make an offer. what should i offer? ive been locking everywhere for one and i finally found one. thanks in advance! Josh
  25. i have been looking for one everywhere. i found a parts broker who said he had one but i talked with him for alittle bit and i never herd from him again even after dozens of emails and calls. you can PM me or email at boardmanMJ@yahoo.com thanks in advance!!!
