  1. will do, thank you...i have been really reluctant to remove the TPS just baised on what i've read (sounds like it can turn into a big headache) I will do all of that first! good advise
  2. found some unknown " lift springs off a cherokee at a wrecking yard today look like 5.5" which is just what I need. ($25) also found a 4.11 front end to match my 4.10 rear ($100). Still need to convert my cooling system to an open system (maybe tomorrow) (about $120) also throwing an aussie locker in the new front end ($230) needless to say $$$$ the wife is getting angry.
  3. Is the IAC the one to the left of the TPS?
  4. Thank you guys for the quick responses...I have a long trip ahead of me and I need the truck dependable. What about leaving it disconected? anyone have any thoughts on that. And...yes, it is the original '87 4.0 in it the Renix
  5. So...I was driving home the other day and overheated the 'manche pretty good. I fixed the problem with the cooling system...but now I have an extremely high idle like 2,500-3,000 rpm. It is very intermittent it started only when it was cold then idled at about 2,500 for about 3 mins, then would kick down to normal. Now...it's fine when cold and seems to only rev when warm, but after I turn the engine off, let it sit, then fire it back up again it now revs at 3,000 (very annoying) and takes like 10 mins to kick down. After doing some searching and talking to other jeep buddies I think it is the TPS (throttle positioning sensor). My real question is... do I really need a volt meter to correctly adjust this thing? Can I do it without one? anything will be better than 3,000 rpm right? and...when I unplug the TPS the idle goes to pretty much where it needs to be. Can I just leave the thing unplugged? Anyone with any personal experience? Any long term issues with just leaving it unplugged? I picked up a TPS at my local junk yard its the exact same unit can I easily pull mine out and plug the "new" one in and try it or am I in for a big adjustment nightmare without a voltage tester? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've read all about the adjustment in other posts I just do not have a tester or money to buy one right now. Pretty much wondering if it's doable by hand?
  6. I recently swapped out my D35 for an explorer 8.8. I decided to go spring over and since I had a full SUA 4.5" leaf pack I sold my 4.5" pack and used the stock explorer springs. The wrecking yard I bought the axle at threw in the leafs for free. They fit perfect, and they gave me the exact same 4.5" ride height. So in short if you are staying leaf under use any explorer pack 95-99 the newer and less mileage the better. With the explorer pack in my comanche it rides better than ever! They are very abundant at any wrecking yard and work great!
  7. BTW here's a full size pic of my MJ; it's my first MJ. I've had over 10 XJ's, ZJ's, WJ's. I've been looking for one for about 10 years now and this was the cleanest one I have ever seen! Oh...and the lift is like new and it's very tight. It's been problem free i've actually been very happy with it.
  8. HI! I'm new to the site this is my first time posting it has been VERY helpful so far. I finally got something worth sharing, and I figured of anyone, you all would share my enthusiasm. I was rummaging at my local junkyard and stumbled across this gold nugget. Yes...it is an 8.8 out of a '99 explorer and to top it all off it's a 4.10 limited slip! I saw the D2 on the door and I about fell down, then to top it all off it only had 92k miles on it, and appeared to be in perfect condition. I then contiued to another 95+ explorer and pulled the nicest set of brake pads and disks I could find out there and ended up with a really nice set-up. I've already chopped the spring pads off and i'm getting ready to set my pinion and weld her all up. I'm now running into a little problem that I was hoping I could get some help with. My MJ has a 4.5" full leaf UNDER pack and i'v since pitched the stock springs. I feel like it's a complete waste to go leaf under on this 8.8 just due to ground clearance, however if I use my 4.5" leaf pack i'll net like 11" of lift which is WAY higher than i'm looking to go. So...My question is...does anyone know if cherokee springs are the same length distance so I could just use the main spring then build my own leaf pack? Or, would the stock explorer leaf under pack bolt in because I could go over with those and i'd be at about 4.5" again? Unfortunatly the one and only comanche my local u-pull it had they scrapped before I began this project or I would just go pull the stocker springs out of that and go over with it. Any feedback would be great, and if anyone is interested I will probably have a set of full 4.5" under springs for sale and my stock D35 rear end (3.07gears) if someone wants a bolt in 4.5" rear lift let me know! Also i'm swapping out the front and maybe going long arm so if anyone wants the matching front D30HP let me know...for the right price i'll sell the whole lift and both axles it's a rusty's 4.5" kit.
