How many 242 Comanches are out there? Why not? That could be the ABS pump.

If you know someone at a dealer that still has a DRBII with the Jeep adapter, you can check the sensor and make sure it is adjusted properly. The setting is 13% at idle.

I would check the throttle position sensor.

IIRC the 1986 model (maybe 84-85 also) had the system sentry. It monitered many things. Coolant level, w/w fluid level, brakes (wear sensor), and maybe diff fluid. I do not remember too many Jeeps having this option. -
Or ... a previous owner changed the gearing. Or washed the engine down. The TPS is very sensitive to water. 33004650 $37.00 Electrical - Powertrain control - Throttle position sensor THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, 4.0L, Auto Trans 1986 - 1990

The fuel pump could be a problem. It has a check valve to keep the rail under pressure. If the fuel drains back to the tank, it takes a while to build up pressure. Turn the key on, listen for the fuel pump. When it stops, turn the key off. Repeat. When my Cherokee sits around for a while, I'll do this four or five times, and it starts right up. Hope this helps. -
i thought i had it all figured out! (2wd to 4wd)

I put a 92 axle into an 89 complete. The line threaded into the 92 hose with no problem. -
The factory TPS for the automatics, PN 33004650 87-90 is now $37 retail. They have around 3800 left in Milwaukee. I will be buying a few for stock. The manual trans TPS PN 33003194 is $129 and about 250 left.

I have never had to change them. I have seen it done. Looked like a lot of work.

I have always had Jeeps from 90 and older and always used the factory setup. As long as the fan comes on, before your Jeep has a Chernobyl meltdown, http://www.chernobyl.com/info.htm you should be ok. If the radiator is in doubt, replace it with the most rows you can find. Two is good, three is better. http://www.radiator.com/conversation.ph ... go%21.y=14 Good luck.

How about this? http://www.rocky-road.com/comanche.html Bolton Rear SOA setup. Rocky Road is the king of bolton SOA systems for any Jeep or other offroad vehicle. We bring this engineering expertise to the Comanche with our unique and bombproof bolton system. Our spring pads 'key' into your existing spring pads under the axle so you cannot mess up your driveline angles. Our SOA springpads are also extra long in design to help combat spring wrap. New Ubolt system and spring plates. No need to worry about salvaging those rusted old Ubolts. Our kit comes with a complete new axle bolt system for the rear SOA setup. I am thinking about this setup. Does anyone know anthing about this?

Thanks. You have saved me a lot of time and money. I will repair the 88 and make that the new commuter Jeep.

Better to wheel than an 89 Cherokee? I have both of these. The Comanche is a 2.5, AX5, LWB, 2WD. The Cherokee is a 4.0, AW4, 4.10's. The plan is Swap in the axles from the Cherokee with a bolt on SOA. Then swap in the 4.0 with an AX-15 conversion with the external slave cylinder, circa 1994+. Use the transfer case with the 94+ trans. Bolt on some 33X10.50's. Go wheelin'. Possible? Yes. I also have a 1989 Cherokee with a 4.0 and a BA10. I am sure it would be much easier to swap in this powertrain. Leave in the 4.10 factory 35 in the Comanche and swap in the front axle 4.10. If it breaks, I'll fix it. Got to start somewhere.
