The Beast, Papa Mel's 1st Jeep MJ
benjy_26 replied to mrmel2you's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Have you pulled the valve cover yet? My #4 cylinder died suddenly not too long ago. I started disassembling the top end and found that the rocker arm had come off the push rod. Easy fix. -
I'm starting to like the idea of a whip. How does one tune those atennae?

What to do with all my wires

I have something very similar to that as well in my engine bay feeding power to my LED's and headlights. Mine look too small for the wiring found on winches and amps, though. -

I used these: http://www.premierpowerwelder.com/terminals/terminals.html Not the cleanest install, but it looks right if you route your cables properly and they give a solid, reliable connection. -

Reminds me of mine! I like it. -
Cool deal! That certainly keeps it out of the way of cargo and occupants.

Did you just drill through the tailgate?

My issue is that everyone I know is still using CB's, so I'm tied to that technology for better or worse. How good/bad are the hand held CB's? I noticed Cobra makes one that looks like a big walkie-talkie.

I guess what I want to know is how to replicate what crown sells with off the shelf parts. The other options above are listed. 95-96 XJ is bolt in. WJ stuff takes a little extra effort. Both the options I listed can be done for less then $100. Thanks! So...just to be sure: I can take a '95 MC and booster and bolt it into my '87 with no other mods?

AX-15 or Ax-5 Transmission Fluid Info

Ah...well, I have a bigger than stock exhaust near there, so any additional tranny heat would be unnoticeable. -
Where is "here"for you?

Xj headliner, cut to fit mj?
benjy_26 replied to Jeepmmmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Some guys here have done it, but it isn't a straight-forward process. I believe that is due to the different roof angle between the MJ and XJ. -

I haven't noticed any undue amounts of heat coming through my un-carpeted floors with the 10-30 synthetic, but, I do have a 2.5 and I drive like a grandma. -
Can one communicate with CB users woth a ham radio?

Awesome! Thanks for the info. It seems like the Cobra 29 series variants are pretty popular.

Hello all. I've been considering getting a CB for the MJ and have finally decided to go about buying/installing one, but I know NOTHING about them. What are you guys running and what have your experiences been with your set up? Thanks in advance!

The one I am looking at, the guy claims it's an 86 (2wd) and it does have the short bed. Could be a late year model though. I have access to a 2000 XJ and planned to use all the drivetrain, front sheet metal and do the dash conversion to it as well. Not looking to make a crawler out of it. I have a set of Rubicon wheels that I want to use with a little lift. Just looking to build an updated basic street truck that I can take Hunting and share it with the girlfriend. She really likes the Comanches. If yoi plan on doing a full conversion, get anything made from 87 on up as long as it isn't too rusted.

That too. I didn't notice that on first glance.

AX-15 or Ax-5 Transmission Fluid Info

Been running Oreilley's brand (just repacked Valvoline, I believe) synthetic 10-30 in my AX4 for almost two years now with zero issues. It really helped the shift feel, especially in the winter. -
If I needed to swap the tank to a non-stock location on my MJ, I'd just put a fuel cell in the bed and call it a day. No skid plates needed.
-
I'd definitely clean out the tb during the process. It can't hurt!
