Am I Missing Something Here?
benjy_26 replied to swsws1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got tired of this type of issue with "new" jy harnesses. I finally just bought some spools of wire, connectors, and ran my own harness. Problem solved. -
Thanks! Cool info on the R151.

Heck, if it sits higher, I don't mind modding my floor pan. All in the name of clearance!

Cool. Does the Wrangler T case hang lower than the XJ/MJ?

Hello all. Like a lot of folks on here, I've been contemplating a 4wd swap in my 'Manche. Initially, I wanted to perform a straightforward AX4-AX5 swap. My plan was to rebuild the AX5, keep the 4 banger, not go above 31's, and drive like a granmpa (I usually do, anyway). This should give me at least a few years of use. Unfortunately, the AX5's are extremely rara around here. Apparently, nobody in West Texas ever liked the 2.5 Jeeps. I did get my paws on a Dakota bellhousing for the AX15 conversion, and am currently hunting down a 5 speed out of an XJ. I HAVE found a few YJ and TJ AX's, so that may be an option, after some mods. My question is, what do I need, aside from the tranny, clutch, and bellhousing, to perform the swap? Also, if I'm using a bellhousing from a 2.5 Dakota and an AX15, why do I need a clutch out of an 84 Camaro with a 4 banger? Couldnt I just use a Dakota clutch?

I was thinking the other day, that if one has a light with an intact back, one can make a mold to lay fiberglass, then lay plastic for a lense on that FG frame or backing.

SEE PEE ESS. That's what my XJ started doing when the CPS went lsouth.

So I Had A Thought For A Engine Swap
benjy_26 replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Non traditional engine? Look at the 2004 Isuzu Rodoe 3.5 V6. Gasoline Direct Inection, 250 hp.@ 5600 rpm, 246lb/ft at 3000 rpm. Aluminum block and Heads, 10.3 compression runs on 87 oct. gas. Engine weight is about 450 lbs. Best of all the automatic transmission is our own AW4. Does the transfer case line up for the Jeep? Don't know. Guess I should look at my 4X4 Rodeo and my sister-in-laws 4X4 XJ. The enine is close to bullet proof, good low end torque and a 6200 rpm. Much better 4 valve head than the non crossflow 2 valve Jeep head. That's what I'm talking about! That sounds like a fantastic mill! -
Catch cans don't work with the CCV systems. I pulled the VC and cleaned the underside from my 4.0HO in the XJ, ran a catch can, and had oil coming out the dipstick tube. Removed catch can, and all is well.

I do love the Jeep 2.5, but I don't think it's capable of high performance in the traditional sense. I think that with the proper cam profile, intake and exhaust, and a small, high spooling turbo, you'd have an economical, responsive engine that would out-pull a lot of higher displacement V6's and V8's. -

Let's keep this going! I like it when people think outside the box. Some great ideas can come that way. What other non traditional enfines would you throw in a Manche? How about a Mazda Miller Cycle engine out of a Millenia? How about the V6 VTEC Honda engine out of the Accord? The Ridgeline won a few off road races sporting it. Maybe a V8 out of the old Infinity Q45? -
Or... You COULD just go get yourself a 2WD ZJ front beam and forget the spacers. My local P-N-P lets thos bad boys go for a Benny rotor to rotor. You may even get lucky and find one with the beefier tie rods off of a V8 model.

Where did you order them from? Part#s? Exactly. Everyone here looks at me weird, stops me, and tells me: "It's pronounced C H E R O K E E" whenever I want a part for my 'Manche.

I have a plan on how to keep us in serviceable tail lights, actually. Just an idea kicking around my head, but it seems do-able.

Vaccum Lines Replacement

I used a whole bunch of that same stuff on my 2.5 SporTruck. Seems to work ok and now my Heep is running WORLDS better. -
Stay tuned. lol

Lol no... I wish. I tend to post from my mobile, and my fingers are rather large, complicating my relationships with touch screen devices. That, and I'm usually either half asleep or in a rush. Let's just say I'm a constant source of entertainment. :D

Sorry brother, but these things fall into the "cold, dead hands" category. :)

Has anyone used the MJ rear flares on the front WITHOUT trimming the sheet metal? I have a spare set,and when I mock them up, it seems luke one would gain about an inch on each trailing edge, which is precisely where I rub.

Hooks On The Front Of An Mj?
benjy_26 replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I haven't, but make sure you bolt em on using Class V bolts. Why not class VIII? Class V bends a bit before breaking. The harder classes tend to snap, creating a potentially hazardous recovery situation. -

Lol nah... My job is much more pedestrian. I was juat being fascetious, though the desert around EP DOES look like the scenes from sci fi movies... -

Horses for courses, I guess. Not all of us use our trucks the same way, so one guys "cool mod" is just ruining a truck for the next guy. I'm sure a turbo 4 would kind of suck for rock crawling. Take it into the dunes, though.... -

Again, that's in stock form. Boost is very flexible. You can adjust fuel, boost, and ignition curves to compensate for some of that. Besides, my own stroker doesn't REALLY come alive til I'm above 3200rpm.
