How Bad Is The Ax5? Seriously?
benjy_26 replied to benjy_26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup. That's why IF I swap out the TJ unit, I'll keep the shafts just for the bigger ujoints (and to have spares). I really don't forsee running into issues with a LP unit, what with 31's, a tiny lift and an engine compartment full of angry squirrels. :) -
Hittin' Switches, Gettin' Blown Fuses.
benjy_26 replied to benjy_26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I already swapped out the sockets/pigtails with new metal Ford units. I'll try the relay scrub down. I also tore apart that 10 pin unit and cleaned it up a while ago. I'll look at it again. Maybe a wire ended up rubbing against sonething. :-\ -
I'm curious. Why the dash as well? To be honest, I haven't spent any real time inside of a XJ that's post-96.

Rear Cross Member Replacement
benjy_26 replied to BPS HUNTER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If it's just a regular crossmember, I'd just gey some HREW square tube, stitch some mounting plates to it, and slap it on. Should work out ok. -
Hello all. So, recently, my 87 MJ has developed the annoying habit of blowing the turn signal fuse when I attempt to, well, use the turn signals. I have swapped out both flasher relays, and it has helped in that it stopped blowing the back up light AND turn signal fuse. I decided to swap out the frony bulbs, and the issue continued. Interestingly enough, if I pull yhe front bulbs, I can use the turn signals without issue. I assume that this means that my problem is in the front turn signal wiring? Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

I can look at my 94 ZJ later this weekend and suss out the O2 wiring, if you still need to know.

How Bad Is The Ax5? Seriously?
benjy_26 replied to benjy_26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am, but only around 3 inches. It SHOULD hold up ok at that height. If not, CAD XJ front ends are a dime a dozen around here. I'll just swap in the TJ guts into one of those housings. Those TJ shafts/ujoints DO look pretty beefy. -
How Bad Is The Ax5? Seriously?

Nice! Unfortunately, my impetus for getting an AX5 is that I'm in the middle of a 4wd swap. I got a 98 TJ axle and Ford 8.8 ready to go, but no tranny or t case. :P -

Nice! I still gotta find me an AX5. Apparently, they're rare in my area. :-\ -
Love all my Optimas. I have 3 yellow tops, a red top, and an old blue bumping around.

In real world, practical terms, does the MoPar 8.75 have an edge over the Ford 8.8?

33S Or 35S? Your Input Appreciated.
benjy_26 replied to mountainman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those KM2's run a bit short, I think. I have a KM1 and a KM2 sitting in the same wheels in my yard right now and the KM1 is a bit taller, if skinnier... so, 35" KM2's would be killer. A 33" KM2 might end up looking like a really fat 31. -
Hey everyone. I'm needing an AX5/NP231 combo for an ibternal slave MJ. I COULD also use one for an external slave set up, but frankly, at this point I just want to plug and play. Let me know what you guys have!

I say screw it. 37's and recentered H1's. Why blow that much money to watch them wear out while you get a "real" axle. Just go balls out from jump. 6.5" is a LOT of lift. I get on well with 32's and 1" of lift on my ZJ. -
FWIW, I've seen sone Tacoma guys use a suspension verybsimilar to that street rod's in their prerunner style street rigs. If I had an IFs truck that I planned to use for the street and in the sand, I'd do it. I imagine that wheel hop is pretty much non-existant with a set up like that.

Grassy @$$! Off to Ace!!!

The gears are the easy part. IIRC, those jag centersections are D44's. Like Jeepco said, the trick will be designing a suspension with arms that are long enough to get decent travel. It can be done, but your MJ will be on the extra-wide end of the spectrum. Not only that, but you're going to have to source some very, very tough cv shafts. With all that said.... do it! Baja race trucks and KOH truggies use IRS and IFS set ups and they work amazingly well for high speed rough stuff.

I like the longevity and vibration resistance that LED's offer, but I'd rather not strobe myself. I like my night vision.

Do the LED lights respond well to the dimmer? I like rolling dark in the desert (i.e. dash lights barely on).

2.5L Tj Engine With Ax5 Fit My Mj? 242 Tcase Fit?
benjy_26 replied to mndiesel's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In your situation, I'd just get a JY engine that's in decent condition for a couple Benjamins. -
More Power Form Renix 87 And 88
benjy_26 replied to cruiser54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The never ending Renix owners' quest and the $$ people pump into it to just equal a stock non-aspirated basic HO performance specs never ceases to amaze me. I just don't get it. And upgrading an HO is cake, less $$, and a whole more gain for the $$. To each his own i guess. Agreed.... BUT it IS kind of fun to see what little mods can pull from an overlooked system. :) I'm enjoying doing just that to my 2.5 TBI. Whenever I jump back into my 4.7 powered ZJ, though, I do get a big grin on my face. -
Hello all. I was wondering if anyone knows the size and thread pitch of the uppermost bolt that holds the alternator. BTW, my engine is the 2.5L. It seems that I have lost it while replacing the ground cable and starter cable on my 'Manche (yay for 2ga!). Thanks in advance, y'all.

First Hand Experience, Reviews?

I dig the Clayton equipped rigs I've driven and ridden in. If I were looking at going long arms, I'd eat ramen for Clayton, with a nod given to IRO.
